What do you use to clear up those red blood vessels that crowd around your irises after you've been wearing Biofinity contact lenses?

Hi Kaywood. Welcome to Lens 101, although I wish you were feeling better. Is this your first trial pair of contact lenses? What makes you think you have an infection? You've been cleaning them properly, haven't you?

Thanks for the welcome. I probably dont have an infection, but both eyes are red and one eye has noticeable red capillaries. I need correction for reading. I cannot see up close and I am fed up with looking for readers around the house. I have tried about 3 to 4 different kinds of contacts. I am a hard fit because I have a very high astigmatism. The Doc had my monovision Biofinity Toric lenses backwards. She guessed the wrong eye as dominent. The lens RX was changed and she switched eyes. My biggist problem is that I leave the office with fairly decent vision...but it goes downhill within a week or so. Could it be protein buildup? Have I perhaps stretched the contacts while cleaning them? Could rewetting drops that do not say "For Contacts" on the bottle have caused damage to the lenses? I would like "Daily" contacts but do they have them in the Toric lenses I wear? Could you, and others help me with each of this qestions? This next visit to the Dr will be my 6th or 7th! Thanks.

My biggest problem is that I leave the office with fairly decent vision...but it goes downhill within a week or so. Could it be protein buildup? It could be, but I always thought that protein buildup happened rather slowly. It sounds to me like this comes on rather quickly. When you say your vision "goes downhill" what does that mean? Does it get blurry, foggy, painful or what? Have I perhaps stretched the contacts while cleaning them? By "stretched" do you mean physically stretched them like when you pull at a sweater? I don't think so of that's the case, unless you're really scrubbing them. ![]() Could rewetting drops that do not say "For Contacts" on the bottle have caused damage to the lenses? Rewetting drops are probably not to blame. They usually contain some lubricants, a "buffer" or two to make them gentler on your eyes, and a little salt. I don't see how that can damage lenses, but there's a lot I don't know about eye health. The only thing I found in a brief search was a warning not to "allow the dropper tip to touch any surface, including the eyes or hands" because this can lead to a vision-threatening infection. I would like "Daily" contacts but do they have them in the Toric lenses I wear? Yes, there are daily toric lenses available, including ClearSight 1 Day Toric and Focus Dailies Toric. http://www.lens.com/view/daily-toric.asp Could you, and others help me with each of this questions? I hope you have found this posting helpful. |

What lens solutions are you using? If your vision is OK when you leave the opticians and OK when the lenses are new, but the redness develops later, I think there is a high probability you are both having a reaction to an ingredient - usually a preservative, in the lens solutions you are using. Sometimes these take a few days to cause noticeable problems like redness. Try a switch to Clear Care preservative free peroxide solution. If the problem goes away, then you have a reaction to something in your present solutions. If you still want to use a Multi Purpose Solution, then it will be a case of trial and error to see what the offending chemical is. But try Clear Care as a first step. I have worn Biofinity lenses using peroxide as the cleaner/disinfectant and certainly never had any problems with red eyes, even if I wore the lenses 18 hours. While it is possible to have a reaction to any lens, including silicone hydrogels, there have not been many reports of that with Biofinity lenses. knotlob |

As far as I know Biofinity does not make daily disposable toric lenses. I don't think re-wetting drops are the cause of your problems, even if they don't specifically state that they are for contacts. Hopefully someone who knows more about this than I do will come along and comment. That can be almost anybody. ![]() |

Yeah, I'd like to know how Kaywood is doing, and in general why people post questions and then disappear. I wonder what we can do to help people to remember to check back on their posts?
