Default Long Time Bio 38 User Seeking Comfort Improvement

Hello,

I've been wearing the Bio 38's for a LONG time...maybe about a good 10 years off and on. Recently I went to my optician (who I have determined has no clue what she's doing) to see if there were any new contacts that are more comfortable. Long story short after trying Acuvue Oasys, Acuvue Advance, Acuvue 2's - I'm back to my trusty Bio 38's...Acuvue edges seem to not agree with my eyes. Anyways I'm now seeking advice from any other Bio 38 wearers or ex-Bio 38 wearer and I have 2 questions..

1) I normally use Opti-Free. If I switch to Clear Care would that improve comfort? Is there any other solution that may improve comfort?

2) Has anyone here switched to another lens that was as comfortable as the 38? Which ones worked well for you?

Hi there Bio38_Fan. It's funny. I've search and searched, but I couldn't find anything that specifically said "Clear Care is good for cleaning Biomedics 38 contact lenses." However, from what I've read on this site, Clear Care is very good stuff.

Yeah I couldn't find anything either. It doesn't look like I'll do harm when I checked the url that shows what solution/contacts work well with each other...http staininggrid dot com (I can't post full url's yet being a newb haha).

But from what I've read also it does appear people seem to like ClearCare. And the very next day I posted that I saw a coupon for $5 off a 2 pack at Walgreens. So I'll give it a shot.

As far as lenses the only 1 out there that looks like I'd be interested in trying is the Air Optix Aqua. But I dread going to see my clueless optician again.

I use to wear those, 14 years ago, and I think you should give Biofinity a try. Lens.com sells them. They are super comfortable and last about a month. Also They let more oxygen to your eye.

Biomedics 38= polymacon (38%) (Dk = 9)
Biofinity= comfilcon A (48%) (Dk = 128)

The higher the Dk the more oxygen to the eye. The lowest Dk value are in the polymacon lenses. Its one of the first material they used to make soft lenses. I'm suprised they kept you in them so long. Hope this info helps!!!

(I got my facts from www.clspectrum.com)

Thanks for the recommendation. I figured there were more comfortable contacts out there, but for whatever reason my clueless optician kept trying Acuvue lenses on me. I kept telling her they felt ok for the first couple hours and then later in the day my eyes would dry out and I could feel the edges. Her solution for me...just put rewetting drops in. Ummm I never had to do that with the Biomedics.

Then with the Acuvue Advance lenses, one day I had it in and they were super dry and I could feel the edges. I put drops in and it was still irritating the hell out of my eyes. I took them out and it felt like there was something stuck in my eyes for 2 complete days. Took about 5-6 days before my eyes felt normal and I could insert a different pair of lenses.

I'm just guessing here - but the profit margins must be really nice on the Acuvue lenses because that's all she kept pushing on me. She let me try a pair of Biomedics55 and she didn't even give me the correct Rx for my right eye. I'm -6 Left and -5 Right. She gave me 2 pairs of -6 to wear. How the hell am I supposed to wear contacts for 12 hours with blurry vision in my right eye?

Sorry for the rant...but she's extremely unprofessional and like I said before..clueless!

EDIT: Oh yeah she told me Biomedics38 were discontinued and I believed her until I was finally fed up and did a google search. Spoke to several companies today who all told me they haven't seen/heard they will be discontinued. Hmmm....
