Default Switching From Acuvue 2 to Biomedics 55

I'm comparing Acuvue 2 contacts to Biomedics 55. I checked them out side-by-side at www.lens.com and they seem very similar. I'd like to hear from some readers who have tried both of these contacts. When it comes to marketing, these two are almost identical. I figured that if I got in touch with people who have actually tried these themselves, I can get some useful information. I'm looking for the usual - comfort, convenience, vision correction - whatever struck you and made you decide that you liked one contact lens better than the other.
Thanks a lot, and for those of you in the Northern Hemisphere - happy winter solstice. Time to bundle up!

I want to do just the opposite! I want to switch from Biomedics55 to Acuvue because Biomedics are NOT "inversion marked" and Acuvues ARE "inversion marked".

Why do you want to switch? What makes you think Biomedics55 are better than Acuvue? I am wearing Biomedics55 now and they are fine but they are NOT "inversion marked" so you can't tell if they are inside out or rightside in! that fact alone makes Acuvue look better to me!

Thanks for replying to my post, Arthur. You sound like someone who really loves that inversion mark. Do the Biomedics flip inside out easily?

I'm not saying that one lens is better than the other. That's what I'm asking. I want my friends on Lens 101 to tell me which ones they like best.

The entire industry is now using "inversion marks".... all EXCEPT Biomedics apparently. That's why I want Acuvue. Why struggle with the "taco test" which is only guesswork when an inversion mark will tell you POSITIVELY whether they are backwards or not?

I came to the same opinion you did, that they will be the same otherwise since they are both just "plain vanilla" 1-2 week disposable contacts.

Thanks for your input, T. Arthur. Have you started with the Acuvue contact lenses yet?

No, not yet. I called my optomatrist and asked him to pick another (inversion marked) brand and send me the script... he hemmed and hawed and told me I'd have to come in for another appointment (meaning he wants another $100). I hung up the phone and presently am using a jewlers lupe to microscopically examine the lip edge of the contact lens which I have found is the only RELIABLE way to tell if a non-inversion-marked lens is inside-out or not.
Is their any way to order contact lenses from a foreign country where prescriptions are not required using a Visa card? I heard their are contact lens vending machines at some foreign airports since no prescriptions are required for lens sales in almost all foreign countries.
By the way, you never answered my question: Which Acuvue lens is equivalent to Biomedics55 ?

Okay, first of all, you really don't want to order contact lenses from some "foreign country where prescriptions are not required." And you definitely don't want to get them out of a machine like a gumball. Contact lenses are medical devices. You must have a prescription from a licensed eye care professional.

Your eye doctor probably wanted to fit you for another brand of contact lenses, and since each brand is a little different, another fitting was probably the right move.

As for which lens in equivalent to Biomedics 55, I looked at all the 1-2 week disposable contact lenses made my Acuvue, and they're all different from the Biomedics 55. Different (but admittedly similar) water content and different materials. You probably can substitute, but I'm not a doctor so I'm not going to try and tell you which one would work.

I think your best bet would be to talk to you eye doctor and try to come to some agreement; and if that's not possible, find a different doctor and try again. Good luck.
