Default Biomedics Toric Lens Lodged

Have you ever gotten a Biomedics Toric lens stuck in your eye? How did it happen and how did you get it out?

A couple of times.

The first thing to do is to relax. Then I flooded the eye with lens soaking solution (NOT peroxide-vased, obviously,) and sat down. I repeated this every ten minutes for an hour and blinked repeatedly. After about an hour or so it was easy enough to remove.

Thanks for that personal experience odile53. I'm glad you said that it took an hour. I someone had a lens stuck in their eye and couldn't get it out after fifteen minutes, they may start to really panic if they hadn't read your post. Now if that ever happens to me, I'll know to just calm down and realize I may be spending the next hour trying to get the lens out, and that's not unusual.

Hopefully I won't have to deal with it at all, but you know . . .

Good to know it comes out eventually without a trip to the hospital. How did you eye feel when you finally got the lens out? Was it really red and sore?

It's important, for whatever reason, to use the solution that you soak the lenses in overnight, NOT rewetting drops. The soak solution seems to plump up the lens and unstick it. Because you're using a bottle that doesn't really lend itself to being used as an eye drop, it's going to be messy. I usually hold my head over the bathroom sink, turn my head sideways, and flood the eye with the stubborn lens for about ten seconds. Then blink a lot. If you can stare for a few moments at a fairly bright light to produce some of your own tears, so much the better. Then go relax for about ten-fifteen minutes, and repeat.

My eye is usually red after this procedure, but that goes away in about half an hour.

I've usually had "stuck" lenses (I prefer to think of them as "stubborn",) because I didn't use rewetting drops during the day or the relative humidity was pretty dry or it was unusually windy or dusty.

Thanks for your help around here, odile53. I'm glad your experience can benefit others.

Well, I hope our friends in Lens 101 land can avoid all that flooding the eyes with solution by just keeping the lens well-moistened during the day.

That sounds reasonable, Petra. Thanks for adding that.

Don't forget those wetting drops, kids.

I opened it, so I should probably be the one to close it, but I don't want to just yet. Thanks to all of you who have responded so far, and I hope to hear from more of you here. So let me repeat the question: Have you ever gotten a Biomedics Toric lens stuck in your eye? How did it happen and how did you get it out?

Good idea. Let's see if restating the question helps us to get some more answers.
