Default substitute for Boston Conditioning Solution ?

I'm not sure if this is the right sub forum but anyway : I wear rigid gas permeable contact lenses but running out of Boston Conditioning Solution. I'm currently in a country where this is not available. Is there a substitute which can be used for let's say a few weeks or a month ?

Hi jono. While searching for an answer to your question I found a very similarly worded question on Yahoo Answers. Did you ask there, too? In that site someone suggested something called "metoclopramide." I looked that up and found out that it is "used to relieve heartburn and speed the healing of ulcers and sores in the esophagus . . . in people who have gastroesophageal reflux disease." That doesn't sound like it would be very helpful for you.
I dug a little deeper and found that the main ingredient in Boston Conditioning solution is Chlorhexidine Gluconate (0.006%). I wasn't able to find anything else that had that ingredient in it. Maybe it's a patented formula or something.

So what country are you shopping in? Maybe knowing that will help.

Thanks for your reply !
No, I can't get it in this country, so I probably have to make a trip to a neighbouring country where it is available. Or wear glasses for a while.
What about saline solution, can that be used, or would that really be bad, as far as you know ?

Saline solution would probably not be "really bad," but it probably won't help. Conditioning solution--according the Bausch & Lomb website--"disinfects, cushions and wets rigid gas permeable (gp) and hard contact lenses."

Perhaps they can tell you of a suitable substitute: http://bausch.custhelp.com/app/ask

Thanks.
I've also thought of this "solution" to solve my problem : change the conditioning solution in which the lenses are being stored once every two or three days, that would save me some time. How about that ?

I'm not sure about that. Do the instructions on the bottle say to change the solution every day? Do you store your lenses in this solution for more than one day? It might be okay if you leave your contacts in the case undisturbed for a couple of days, but I would definitely advise against putting the lenses back in the same solution they've already been in.
I'm not an eye doctor or any kind of expert, so I don't want to tell you anything that would be harmful. The obvious question would be: can you ask the eye doctor that prescribed your contact lenses to you? If not, is there a local eye doctor or contact lens store that you can contact?

Saline solution doesn't really clean the lenses, it just gets them wet; basically with water that has the same amount of salt as is found in your natural tears.
