Okay, first question. Does anyone know from personal experience about Hybrid contacts?

Hybrids would include several different lenses. Some are an RGP center with a soft covering and 'skirt'. The other would be an RGP that starts off like a regulae RGP, but when it is placed in a liquid solution, the outside of the lens changes to a thin gel-like surface. I wear one of the later due to very dry eyes. Google-ONSI 56 RGP

I've never heard of contact lenses that change from RGP to hybrid when you add solution. That's pretty cool. How long does this transition take?

The labs usually soak them in conditioning solution overnight before sending them out.

Wow, cool. So you start with a lens that's rigid and hard, soak it in conditioning solution overnight and in the morning the lenses have a soft outside edge while the center stays hard?

yes they are called synergeyes lenses. GREAT choice for those that cannot tolerate the lens lid interaction with reg rgp lenses.

But that is more of an adaptation issue. I am and ecp and it took a month and half for my dry sensitive eyes to go thru the full adaptation process. It takes 3 weeks up to a month or so to full have the sensation go away completely.

Do these Synergeyes lenses start out as RGP lenses which are then soaked in conditioning solution?

hybrid contact lenses are fantastic for a multitude of hard to fit or challenging eyes!
However they require extensive knowledge to fit.....they can end up being too tight or too loose. My suggestion for you trish is to def go to a eye care pro to get these lenses.

they can be ordered on line...but only if they been fitted on the patient and the prescription is working.

So even if yo order on line, you still need to see a doctor for the prescription and the fitting, right?

Never tried hybrid lenses myself, but I'm glad you signed up for the forum. How's it going?

It's my understanding that to do otherwise would be illegal. At least the prescription part. I don't know about the fitting.
