There are reports of significant microbial contamination among the people who are not completely aware of the usage procedures. Therefore, proper lens cleaning is essential for minimizing the risk of contact lens related eye infections.
Lens cases should be replaced every three months to avoid this potential source of contact lens contamination and ocular irritation. |

First off I have been wearing contact lenses for over 30 years. Second the contamination was for soft lenses not RGP. Tossing cases after three months is not always needed and often becomes expensive if you use shape retaining cases.
Since soft lenses are more open they tend to hold onto bacteria more so than RGPs. Boston lenses can be handled and cared for more commonly than any soft. You shoudl have posted this under soft lens care. I have washed my lenses in fresh running streams, left them popped out in just soaking solutions for months then washed and reinserted and nothing. I wore them when i was a FF/rescue and had all kinds of stuff sprayed in my eyes and had to at the accident scenes pop them out. They are more durable and resistant to microbial contamination than any other. Julia Sherman DN, rPhT, AHMA |
