What is "spectacle blur"? Is it something that happens when you put your glasses on right after you take your contacts out?
Spectacle blur is when you wear a rigid contact lenses and they reshape the corneas so that when you take them out the vision with you glasses isn't as clear because of the corneal reshaping!

Oh. I wasn't sure what that meant either. So how long does it take for your corneas to return to "normal"?

So if you wear lenses like Boston XO, and you decide to stop wear them for whatever reason, you're going to have blurred vision for a month? |

It would take a while for your eyes to "reshape" back to the cornea's original shape to get an accurate prescription for eyeglasses.
For instance, my eyes are "refracted for wearing my glasses after I take my lenses out at night. When I first wear my glasses in the morning before lens insertion I get "ghosting" of images due to my astigmatism coming back. So in order for me to see good the next morning I would have to have my eyes refracted after my lenses have been left out overnite to get an accurate prescription to wear in glasses when I first get up in the morning! I have a choice of "good vision" at night or good vision in the morning with glasses. It's like take your pick. I don't like it but I wear my contacts most of the time so it doesn't bother me that much. Even if I could wear soft contacts, I still wouldn't wear my contacts part time because I don't like how I look with my glasses. Some people like wearing contacts part time; I don't! That is why I'm a good GP contact lens wearer. Some people don't want to wear their contacts all the time and enjoy switching back & forth between glasses and contacts and I don't like that. GPs are pretty much all or nothing. You either wear them or you don't! Shari |

Back to the original question. When you take your lenses out, it is always at the same time, like 10:00 or something?

Wow, I've never heard of such a thing. So when you take these Boston contact lenses out, your vision is even worse then before you started wearing them, because of the corneal compression? That doesn't sound very cool.

OK, now I want to know about that and what time people take their contacts out around here. |

Does anyone have a similar schedule with their Boston XO contacts, or do you just leave them in 24/7? |
I only wear my Boston XO contacts during my waking hours not 24/7 as they are not extended wear! Unless your eye doctor says it's okay I would never wear my lenses 24/7!
Yes, I remove my lenses at bedtime; my eyeglass prescription is for wearing after removing my lenses at the end of the day and I don't see as well with my glasses because of the change in my cornea shape. It doesn't bother me because I wear my contacts pretty much every day all my waking hours unless I'm sick and then it doesn't matter much to me how my vision is! Shari |

I'm with you, Petra. When that happens it really makes these threads come alive.

So you get spectacle blur from wearing contact lenses? I guess it's called that because that's what happens when you put your glasses on, huh? |

Shari- have you told your Dr about the 'spectacle blur' ? If your glasses are made from the most recent Rx, the vision should be stable when you take off the RGPs. Also, the blur is usually very transient and should disappear within 15 to 20mins. I've been fitting RGPs for +25 yrs, and when I see "spectacle blur', it's because the lens is not fitting properly. I haven't seen it in RGPs for a while, but see it often in people who wear soft lenses that are too tight. That's something that needs to be checked.

You will let us know, won't you, Shari? |

Shari? It's been over a month. Where did you go Shari?

Oh good. I though we'd lost you. Thankfully you're still with is. So what do you think about this forum? It's pretty cool, yeah?

Yeah, no kidding. It's nice to have someone actually respond to me sometimes--but enough about my love life . . .

Would you like a rim shot to go with that one-liner?

Very funny, mayibfrank. Girls like a guy with a sense of humor, you know.

Do you know what else girls like (or so I've heard)? A guy with nice eyes. I can tell you personally that glasses turn women off. At least, that's what I keep telling myself . . . |

Still no dates, huh kid?
