Default Boston XO Neglect

I heard that Boston XO contacts have to be handled and worn every day or else the won't last as long. That seems rather counterintuitive, doesn't it?

Boston XO or any rigid gas perm lens have to be worn pretty much every day or you would lose your adaption to the lenses. You can leave the lenses out for 1 to 3 days but after 3 days you would have to cut your wearing time back and re-adapt. Not quite they way you did when you first got the lenses but GP lenses are pretty much all or nothing!

I hate wearing my glasses as I am very farsighted and astigmatic and I just see better with my Boston XO contacts so I wear them pretty much every day except if I'm sick or something for a day or two I might not wear them but I just see much better than with my glasses.

I wear my XO gp contacts every day because I just hate my glasses and see much better with my contacts. Most people who wear contacts have strong glasses and hate how they look which why they wear their contacts!

Of course, those of us who have watched Saturday Night Live in the last twenty years or so know that "It is better to look good than to feel good."

So if you don't wear these contacts every day then it will affect your eyes rather than you contacts, right?

Yes, it will affect your eyes as your eyelids and corneas have to be acustomed to wearing the GP lenses everyday. It is fine if you don't wear them for a day or two but after 3 days you will need to cut back your wearing time and re-adapt. Ask your eye professional. If you are out of the lenses longer than a week than you will feel them on your eyes more and will not be comfortable wearing them all day until you slowly get back into them.

For instance, I had a scratch on my left cornea; was out of the contacts for three days; saw my doctor and he said to start wearing them 8 hours the next day and add an hour each day until I was back into the lenses fulltime. If you aren't out of the lenses much longer than three days it will take a day or two for you to get back into them fulltime.

If for some reason you cannot wear your lenses for a number of days and are not sure how to re-adapt to them just call you "eye professional" and they can give you an "updated" wearing schedule. It's not like the first time that you start wearing them was it's usually a lot faster depending on how long that you've been not wearing them!

That's great Shari. Thanks. So when you wear these contacts for the very fist time, you only wear them for a short time, and each day you wear them longer and longer until you've got them on from dawn to dusk, right? Then if for some reason you don't wear the contacts for a few days, you'll have to slowly work up to wearing them all day again, right? Only maybe you can start out wearing them a little longer than you did on your very first day, right?

i disagree...the new hyper dk materials allows you to wear rgp lenses part time and if u didnt wear them for a month your eyes would take less than 30 min to re-adapt and u could wear them all day...Thats one of the benefits of the hyper dk materials.

If you can wear Boston XO 2s part-time that is very interesting to me. I didn't know that. I'll ask my eye doctor about and see what he says. I'm not sure that I would want to change to those as they're probably more expensive and I don't know whether they come in a bifocal lens which is what I wear!

Even if they're more expensive, if you don't wear them every day they'll last longer.
