Default Boston XO2 vs XO

Seems prime benefit of Boston XO2 is to allow more oxygen to pass thru lens than XO.
Are there any other pro's or con's of XO2 lens vs XO lens?
e.g. vision clarity, brittleness, red eye due to dry eye, progressive lens compatibility, keeping clean, etc.
Thx

Hi tom jones. Welcome to Lens 101. Allow me to quote from Lens.com for the answer to your questions:

"Boston XO 2 are gas Permeable contact lenses produced by Polymer Technology. Boston XO 2 contact lenses are easy to care for and are crafted from patented oxygen permeable material that allows your eyes to 'breathe'. This new GP material combines a Hyper Dk of 141* for excellent oxygen transmissibility with the stability, wettability and performance of a lower Dk material. Boston XO 2 is inherently wettable, making plasma treatment optional. This material has received FDA clearance for daily wear for ametropia and certain irregular corneal conditions."

As far as comparing Boston OX2 to Boston XO, surprisingly I had a hard time finding anything that said "Boston OX2 is better that it predecessor, Boston XO, for the following reasons:" It's just not there. Or at least . . . I couldn't find it.

Default XO vs XO2

Thx Steuhrob
I've read no comparision either between XO2 and XO.
Not sure why both are still offered to new patients.

I don't know why a doctor would prescribe XO lenses to anyone when XO2 lenses are available at the same price. That's a good point, tom jones.

Default Progressive MultiFocal Boston XO / XO2

Help. I'm looking for an online contact lens supplier that sells Boston XO or XO2 with Aspheric Progressive MultiFocal Rx ordering capability.
The online vendors I've seen for Boston XO / XO2 do not have a selection field for multifocal specifications.
Can multifocal contact lenses for Boston XO / XO2 only be ordered directly from an opthamologist?
If i order my first multifocal pair with correct Rx specs from my opthamologist, I hope to order future multifocal pairs from less expensive online suppliers.
Bausch & Lomb's website for Boston XO and XO2 lenses states that multifocal Rx for these RGP lenses work well. Thx.

These "multifocal specifications" you mentioned. Does that mean the "add" field? That's the only thing I saw that was unique to multifocal lenses. I don't really know if you can get Boston XO lenses with the add parameter from any supplier. I'll admit I don't know very much about ordering multifocal lenses, but isn't that a bit like asking for a compact Cadillac?

Boston XO and XO2 material can be used for multifocal designs.

Bausch and Lomb Boston materials can be worked into multifocal designs BUT multifocal designs are under licensee from companies that specialize in these designs. If the lab is approved to work with these companies and designs then they can fabricate multifocal designs. ONLY ecp's have access to multiple labs and suppliers whilst online contact lens companies do not.

That's a good point, luvbostonxo2's. Can you think of a situation where access to multiple labs would be a necessity and not just a nice thing to have?
