Thread: where buy Multifocal Boston XO XO2

Default where buy Multifocal Boston XO XO2

Help. I'm looking for an online contact lens supplier that sells Boston XO or XO2 with Aspheric Progressive MultiFocal Rx ordering capability.
The online vendors I've seen for Boston XO / XO2 do not have a selection field for multifocal specifications.
Can multifocal contact lenses for Boston XO / XO2 only be ordered directly from an opthamologist?
If i order my first multifocal pair with correct Rx specs from my opthamologist, I hope to order future multifocal pairs from less expensive online suppliers.
Bausch & Lomb's website for Boston XO and XO2 lenses states that multifocal Rx for these RGP lenses work well. Thx.

Are you sure such a contact lens exists? Have you bought lenses like this before? I don't think Boston lenses come in multifocal parameters, do they?

Joey, you may be correct. My practitioner knows and/or tells me little regarding multifocal lenses. Thru further research, I think the Boston EO provides multifocal with a DK value of 58; versus a DK of 100 for Boston XO.

I'm sure you didn't miss the bright red banners around here that say "Lens.com." Have you tried them?

I'm new to contact lenses. But I need a proper fit and higher oxygen permeability lens for my oddly shaped corneas and other eye issues.

Don't I need the proper Rx fit first? Once I get the properly fit Rx, will the same fit work for all RGP brands?

Yes, you definitely need to see a doctor to get your prescription before you order your lenses. Any website that's reputable will ask you for your prescription as well as a way to reach your doctor to confirm the prescription before selling you anything.
Unless you're in Europe. Apparently they'll sell you contact lenses without a prescription.

Default Willl the same Rx RGP fit work for all RGP brands?

Will the same Rx for RGP fit work for all RGP brands? Or does each brand require its own unique Rx for RGP wear. Thx

I don't know for sure, but RGP lenses fit pretty precisely, so if you want to switch to another brand, I think you need to bet fitted again.

Sorry I couldn't be more specific.

RGP lenses are pretty small and the fit has to be pretty precise. I don't think it would hurt to get fitted again.

These lenses are just about 2 weeks old now and have nothing but clear care used on them as well as the Ultrasonic Cleaner with Clear Care soaking solution used in the unit then fresh poured into the conversion/platinum disc cup for conversion to saline. Before putting them in, I do a quick 5 second rinse in store-brand sensitive eyes saline. lenses still clean as new and using the ultrasonic cleaner I feel keeps the deposits off of the lenses.

I have converted 4 other RGP lens wearers to Clear Care that where having the cloudy dirty lens problems and theirs cleared up too. So, It's not just me that is having good luck too.

    Cheers!

    Hi TrekBear,
I googled and came across you old post above. I read that you have multifocal Rx for Boston XO2 lens. I'm being told today, 2/2012, that Boston from Bausch & Lomb will not polish into a multifocal lens; except the only Boston lens that will do multifocal is Boston ES up to a max 1.5 ADD (ie 150).

Please verify that your lab is producing a multifocal lens with Boston XO or Boston XO2 material for you. What is your Add Rx? Thx

P.S. I re-posted here because I believe TrekBear has not posted in awhile and his account may be dormant? Can anyone verify that Boston XO2 can be formed into multifocal? Thx

Good question, tom jones. Aren't RGP lenses like Boston XO2 custom made?

Yes XO XO2 are custom cut, ground, polished....whatever. I spoke directly with Bausch & Lomb about their Boston line. B&L said they only supply the "button" material and the lab grinds the contact lens to custom specs.

B&L told me their specs were that for RGP only Boston ES can be made into multi-focal by the labs at no more than 1.5 ADD. But I've read forum comments that state Boston XO and XO2 can be made into multifocal. I don't know who to believe. Seems that consumers, practioners, labs, and the manufacturer ("button" maker) each have varying stories. This is frustrating.......... Comments?

I suppose there has to be a common thread in there somewhere.

Do you read a lot of different forums. tom jones, or do you primarily stick with Lens 101?

Unhappy YES Multifocal aspheric simultaneous vision lenses do exist!

YES they do exist. Virtually any material available at the lab can be manufactured into a multitude of multi-focal or translating design multifocal contact lenses to address the presbyopic population.

I am in my late 40"s and just started to need close up correction. I have been successfully been fitted with Boston Xo2's material in the multifocal ESSENTIAL I lens design and its superb. I can see hyper clear near, intermediate, and far.

Yes as they are the most complex RGP's lenses to fit, most if not all online contact lens sites DO NOT cater to the ordering of these types of lenses. They still do need to be ordered from your eye doc and yes they are quite expensive. THey also require alot of eye doc know how and math to be able to fit this type of lens successfully. Single vision rgp's lenses can all be ordered online but more complex prescriptions CANNOT!

What you are misunderstanding is that yes labs recieives the rgp lens buttons to be made into a rgp lens. However multifocal manufacturing is under licensee from proprietary companies that design multifocal lenses. So essentially all materials can be made into a multifocal lens depending on the lab that your eye doc deals with. Not all lens designs are made at certain labs.

IN response your question....BL has their own multifocal design and is limited. DO a google search for the ESSENTIAL multifocal lens (no#1 prescribed multifocal)
