Default Median Base Curve And CibaSoft SoftColors

What is a "median" base curve? Is that just for vial contacts? How come other contact lenses have such exact measurements as "8.2" and here we have "medium"? It's like going to the store and looking for size "biggish" shoes.

If I'm not mistaken "Median" base curve is the standard base curve measurement. They are usually 8.5, 8.6 and/or 8.7.

"Biggish." I like that. "I'm looking for some red Nike Jordans, size biggish."

I went poking around Lens.com and checked some contact lenses at random for the base curves they featured and guess what I found. Durasoft 3 ColorBlends. They come in three sizes: 8.3 (Steep) 8.6 (Median) and 9.0 (Flat.)

There ya go. Looks like you were right, Slade.

I don't follow you. What are usually 8.5, 8.6 and/or 8.7 what? Are those base curve numbers? Are we still talking about CibaSoft SoftColors?

The original question was "What is a 'median' base curve?" I figure Jingol was just telling us that a median base curve is generally in the neighborhood of 8.5, 8.6 and/or 8.7.

Or 8.8.

Or 8.8.
According to Wikipedia, base curves range from 8.0 to 10.0 millimeters. So the middle of that would be 9.0. Now whether that's the same thing as "median," I'm not really sure.

The simplest definition of median that I could find was "the value below which 50% of the cases fall." So if you have a brand of contact lenses with ten different base curves, the median would be the sixth highest one.

Right?

Yeah. Sure. I'll buy that. Especially since no one has told you you're wrong yet, Captain.
