I'm looking for the contact lens that would be closest in fit, comfort and price to CibaSoft Visitint lenses. Of those three parameters, I'd say comfort was most important. I'll pay a little more for contacts that don't bother my eyes.

Hiya Droopy,
I wore Cibasofts for 25+ yrs until my eyes became too strong for them and I had to switch brands. I'm a -11.00 and the Cibas stopped at -10.00 if I recall. The best contatc I have found is Purevision monthly contacts. They do take getting used to though!! But after the first couple weeks- I didn't "feel" them anymore and the vision is INSANELY CRYSTAL CLEAR! And it stays crystal clear for up to 14 hours of wear time! The Purevisons have almost the same water content of the Cibasofts- in the 30% range and they stay moist all day long with no drops. Honestly- I have never seen so well as I do with my Purevisions. I also tried 3 other kinds and they were horrendously dry and my vision was blurry. Focus Monthly and Accuvue and Accuvue 2. Those contacts were VERY different than the Cibasofts in comfort and moistness. I tried another- it began with O- either Oasys or Optix and they were too small for my eye cus they only came in 1 base curve. But you can get any of those to try for free from any Eye Dr. But keep Purevision in the back of your mind in case you find all the others too dry or blurry ![]() Good luck to you!! |

Thank you very much, silkakc. That's just the sort of information I was looking for. I'm glad you found a contact lens that works so well for you. I checked on the price and it's not bad either. Purevision sounds like a winner to me.

Droopy,
I wanted to mention that I'm real constrained with which contacts I can use because of the strength of my prescription-11.00. So, I wanted to just mention this: Cibasofts that we both loved have a water content of @ 30% water. The contacts I tried that were too dry and uncomfortable had water contents in the 50% range. This confused me and I asked my Optometrist how can a contact with a higher percent water feel so dang dry and scratchy in my eyes? And he told me that the LOWER the water content- the less likely they are too dry out!! So, try and find any contact that is similar to the Cibas- in the 30% water range if you wish to have the same kind of contact. I used the site Lens.com to look at the composition of the contacts. They tell you at the bottom of each page what the contacts are made from. If your eyes are between -1.00 and -10.00- there are a TON of contacts that have the 30% water composition And nowadays, you can try a free pair before you buy so experiment until you find a perfect fit.Good luck,Lori Last edited by LENS101; 05-16-2008 at 05:23 PM.. |

Hi silkakc, Droopy here.
I re-read one of your replies and saw how your optometrist said that in order to find a contact lens that doesn't feel dry, go for a lens that has a LOWER water content. Did he ever explain that to you so you can explain it to me and the hoards of others reading this forum? :-) |

Sure Droopy,
He said that "The higher the water content is in a contact lens- the more easily it can dry out because it has more water in the composition". I asked him if that was why the Accuvue's I was wearing would get all blurry when walking outside on windy days but my old Cibasofts I wore for 20 yrs never got blurry when wind would hit me in the face. He said that was right...wind wouldn't dry out the Cibas as fast because they had a lower 30% water content. It makes a lot of sense in retrospect. I could wear the Accuvues okay in the Summer and Spring but it was always in the Winter and Fall when I would have the terrible scratchy feeling in my eyes. It was because the heat was on in the house and in the car and they dry out so fast due to environmental causes. |
