I found these forceps in a catalog and they're used for handling soft contact lenses. I'm wondering if they can be used for daily disposable contacts. They are soft; in fact they're very soft. Being intended for use for only a few hours, they are a little like wet tissue paper. Can you use forceps on contact lenses such as this?

don't even bother with those. you seriously just need to learn to take contacts out yourself. I've had contacts for 11 years, and I remember how hard it was getting contacts both in and out at first. you've just to keep at it. the easiest way to remove your lenses is to just look up, and pinch very lightly your eye enough to remove the lens. it seriously takes 2 seconds. the more you do it, the easier it will get.

I'm with MaraJade, Peter. It's good to know that handling your contact lenses with your fingers isn't that big of a deal.

"Nippers." That's a new one on me. I've never heard of the tool pictured above called "nippers." Is that British, danova?
Can you not use these to handle contacts? Have you tried, or is the whole idea just terrifying? |

YIPES! That thing looks way too scary...!
I've only been wearing contacts for almost 2 1/2 years, and I'm a PRO now. I spend about 10 seconds a day total, dealing with my dailies. In, out, no problems (and dailies are great as you just toss them out with no soaking or rubbing). Very few start out like that however; it takes anyone time to learn. When I was starting out, I squeezed too hard taking my contacts out and popped a blood vessel in my eyeball; there was NO pain or damage, but it looked awful for 3 weeks...! The point is that by doing the wrong thing you learn the right thing... Stick with it—and avoid using tools. One of the best tips I learned was to look into the mirror and just do it, trying to detach from yourself as much a possible; as if you are working on a generic eye not connected to yourself. Avoid seeing the finger coming into your eye, and don't tense up and make things worse—R E L A X ! ! ! Beath deep and be calm. Approaching it like that did wonders for me...! It really can work if you try it and be sincere and C A L M !! |

This doesn't sound like something that would be useful for handling contact lenses. Also "Every Sunday between October and March, hundreds of Nippers flock over Terrigal beach and surf, learning vital surf safety and survival skills. Terrigal Nippers learn valuable surf safety skill, teamwork and have a great deal of fun." They maybe able to help you with your contacts better than the other kind. |
