Default Why Not Brown?

It seems that almost everyone I see on this website with colored contact lenses are covering up their brown eyes. What's wrong with brown eyes? Is it just because most people have them? Do blue and green eyes look more beautiful to us just because those colors are less common?

Tell me what you think.

I'm not into coloured lenses, but I think it depends on what part of the world you live. African/Asian/S American eyes are probably mainly brown whereas N America/Northern Europe blue/green, etc.

I think brown eyes can look very attractive, depending on skin colour/complexion.

Maybe just a case of the grass on the other side of the fence is always greener?

At least those blessed with brown eyes are apparently less susceptible to Age Related Macular Degeneration, which is a serious benefit.

It seems to me that in my Honors Biology class in high school I learned that brown eyes are dominant. It's true in my family. My mother had blue eyes and my father has brown, and my siblings and I all have brown eyes.

Soooo . . . since most people have brown eyes, it stands to reason that a) most people who wear contact lenses have brown eyes, and b) most people who wear colored contact lenses will wear a different color, otherwise why bother?

I dont think its a matter of Blue or Brown being better, its just changing your eye color and giving yourslef a makeovcer which makes it fun. If had blue eyes I would probably make them Purple or Lavender or even green for fun and for change. Brown eyes are beautiful for someone who may be even has Blue eyes, brown will be a change.

I'm not a huge Taylor Swift fan, mostly because I'm not a teenage girl, but think she's pretty and has some musical talent.

I found this picture that claims that she's wearing brown contacts over her blue eyes.

There ya go, Vita-man. Can anyone confirm that Ms. Swift is wearing brown contacts in this picture?

I did a search for "taylor swift eyes color" and every result on that first page that mentioned a color said her eyes are blue.

Thanks for your help, Vita_man.

You know, in that picture above, here eyes don't exactly look natural. They don't really look "fake" so much, but if 100% natural means that I would definitely say that was her real eye color, I'd say they look about 30% natural, if that makes any sense.

Maybe it would help if I put it another way. If I didn't know that Ms. Swift's eyes were blue, I would look at this picture and conclude with 70% confidence that she was wearing contacts.

Here she is showing what I'm 90% sure is her natural eye color:

A bit difficult to tell with any certainty in these days when every celebrity photo is retouched using Photoshop.

No kidding. Compare Faith Hill's eyes in these two different versions of the same photo.

You can even have every cell of fat removed from your body for that glamorous "scarecrow" look.

All colors eyes are beautiful... I think people just like to change their eye color around, just like their hair at times. my contacts are prescription and I've been wearing them for over ten yrs. At first I started using all different colors because it was fun, and I wasn't dying mt hair or doing anything else at the time. Then I stuck with one color because I just loved how they looked and they remind me of my grandmothers eye color.
In the end , i think everyone has their own reasons to why they get different colors.

Thanks, dee25. I'm glad you finally settled on one color, and it's sweet that the color reminds you of your grandmother. Did she really have gray eyes like the ones in your picture? No wonder you want to imitate it. It's a beautiful color, if a bit startling.

I wonder if anyone else wears a certain color of contact lenses for sentimental reasons like dee25 here?

I heard about that brown eyed dominance too. It think it's a human thing though, and not a European thing or an American thing.

I have dark brown eyes and my first lenses were just a shade lighter. The second pair were hazel. I like different shades of brown and personally wouldn't ever wear blue, green, violet, etc.

Not every one with brown eyes are covering them up with a totally different color. I could be wrong and perhaps I'm one of the few lol!!

That's for speaking up for brown eyes, thecurlyfitchic. I suppose people see brown eyes as being "too common," like having a dog for a pet or naming your son David. Now people are buying pet ferrets and naming their sons Phinnaeus.

Or, if you're Nicholas Cage, Kal-el (Superman's Kryptonian name). Kal-el Cage. I wonder if any (or all) of their friends said "Kal-el??"

"Seriously??"

I hope the person who airbrushed that scarecrow picture got fired, along with the person who let that picture appear on the cover of the magazine.

I don't find that skin-and-bones look attractive at all. The model on the right is just as attractive as the other two, no?

I like the one in the middle, but the model on the right? As they say in America: "I wouldn't kick her out of bed for eating crackers."

Celebrities. Will the ever run out of weird? I suppose if your success is based on people noticing you and paying attention to you, you do what you can to keep the interest up.
Ironically, some celebrities' antics are an attempt to be left alone.

It's more of a UK expression, but we also say "I wouldn't kick her out of bed" - the crackers bit is new to me though. Of course the genders can be reversed if said by one of the fairer sex.

Well, for what it's worth, my eyes are green. But I sometimes like to have brown eyes - I think they suit me.

One of these days, I'll try blue, too.

I saw a TV show some years ago where two women were interested in the same man. One of them kiddingly said they should split him in two.

"I want the part that makes me laugh." said her friend.
"Okay!" she said with a wicked grin.

At least the first woman would get the part with the eyes.

Sound the alarm! Faith Hill has a few faint lines around her eyes! Quick, get the airbrush before someone realizes she's human!

Ironically, the cover says "Faith & Tim: [We're on a first name basis, you know.] What's Normal About Them and What's Not."

Apparently my dear friend Faith is immune to the aging process. Is that normal or not?
