Default Soloticas Hidrocharme Ice: Base Curve?

Hi everyone,

I'm thinking of getting the Soloticas Hidrocharme Ice contacts with prescription from wrlens however I've noticed the listed base curve is 8.7, but my current contacts are 8.5; should I expect this difference to be problematic? I'd like to make sure I'm making a sound decision before I order since they cost a small fortune (even if they ARE yearly contacts!).

Hello eyecandy. Welcome to Lens 101.

I checked out these Soloticas Hidrocharme Ice contacts and they're a nice gray-blue color. Then I checked with Lens.com and they have one called "FreshLook ColorBlends" and they come in a color called "Moonlight" that's similar. They come in a base curve of 8.6, which will probably be close enough for your 8.5 prescription. When you order the lenses, you will have to give them a copy of your prescription. When they see that the numbers don't quite match, they will hopefully call your doctor to see if it's okay.

FreshLook ColorBlends can be worn for a week if you wear them 24/7, or you can put them in up to 14 times if you take them out at night. A box of six lenses is $29.95 at Lens.com.

Here's the page where you can found out more: http://www.lens.com/contact-lenses/lens254.asp

There's another brand called Natural Touch Opaque, (sometimes called "Elegance Opaque") These are even closer in color to the Ice, but they only come in base curves of 8.4 and 8.7. These are vial lenses and last a year like the Hidrocharme, and Lens.com has them for $49.99 per vial, which contains one lens. So we're talking $100 for a pair of contact lenses that look great and last a whole year.
Here's a member of Lens 101 modeling them:

Here's where you can order them:

I hope this information can save you some money and still allow you to look fabulous.

I was wondering the same thing and also, Solotica diameter is 14.2 but mine is 14.5.
Would that mean the lense wouldn't cover the iris completely?
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, if you wear a contact lens with a diameter that's less than what you need, it won't cover your entire iris and that's especially a problem with color contacts.

FreshLook ColorBlends come in a 14.5 base curve, as do FreshLook Dimensions, FreshLook Radiance and FreshLook Colors. You can find all of these lenses at Lens.com:

Unfortunately I would be of no help at all to anyone here with technical questions. How fortunate to 'run into' such nice and helpful people such as yourself

I'm glad you got the help you needed, Sarah. There are a lot of nice and helpful people here.

If you look around this site you will see that there aren't whole lot of technical questions about base curves and refractive indexes and such. The most useful person to Lens 101 is someone like yourself who has had experience with contact lenses and glasses.

Let us know if you decide to try some of the contact lenses that Eyeofharmony mentioned.

So did you buy any contact lenses, SunKissedSarah? How did you resolve your diameter issue?

Fortunately, there aren't a lot of technical questions here. I find that most questions are for your opinions. I understand everyone has one of those.

Awwww . . . thank you SunKissedSarah. I'd rather be "nice and helpful" than sexy any day. I'm like Leona's Restaurant: "Never Trendy, Seldom Sexy."
