Smile Hi, I'm New! Suggestions for Solotica?

Hi lens101 group!
I am new! so I wanted to introduce my self and get comfortable here
I am fairly new to the colored contacts world.
I have spent a few hundred dollars on a handful of asian lenses (GEO and EOS)
These were my first pairs, and OH how I wish I might have landed on this site before throwing my money away!!
the lenses look so unnatural and I look like my right eye is looking up and my left eye is looking...right. haha!
so I just ordered a pair of solotica Hidrocor in Ice. I saw so many reviews/pix/videos.. and I feel pretty confident that it will look 24235353 times better than what I wear now lol!
I am @ work right now, but I will post some pictures of my ghetto lenses when I get home =]

but do you guys have any suggestions for any natural looking green grey or blue eye colors for dark brown eyes?
I prefer the unrimmed hidrocor.. of the 6 available colors which ones do you think its pretty? I was tinking about the mel.. but i dono~ O.o haha Thanks!

Hi there jyjyfty. Welcome to Lens 101.

I've heard a lot of good things about Solotica contact lenses, except that they're kind of expensive. If you want to shop around a bit, just click on the invitingly large red button at the top of this page. See it up there? The one flashing "Why Pay More For Contact Lenses?" It will take you to Lens.com. They don't have Soloticas there, but they have a ton of color contacts, including the ever-popular FreshLook ColorBlends. I think you'll like it there.
Go ahead. Click on it and then tell me what you think and hopefully, what you bought.

Hi jyjyfty,

Allow me to be the second person to welcome you to Lens.com. If sk8erBoi hadn't gotten to you first, I probably would have said the same thing to you: Soloticas are too expensive, try FreshLook ColorBlends. Since you can just about walk to the store that sells the Soloticas (You look young enough to walk a mile.) it might be worth the extra money for the convenience, but that's up to you.

Thanks for posting the pictures. I look forward to your next batch. Who's that cute little one you're holding in the last picture?

PS - How about showing us that dance?

Hi jyjyfty. Thanks for posting those pictures. Maybe we'll have to contact the Administrator to enable the embedding of video clips--just for you.

This question could be answered verbally or just as well as with a picture, but what color are Hidrocor Ice? Is that a blue? If so they ought to look interesting with your dark features. Can't wait to see more pictures.

By the way, that's a cute little monster you've got there.

The hidrocor ice.. I have never seen it in person, but just videos and pictures. it seems like a white with a hint of grey and light light ice blue.
I have been looking for the perfect grey lenses, and i hope these will do it for me
I am scheduled to go pick it up this friday, so I will most definitely post pictures of my new eyeballs! =D

Here is a picture that inspired me to go find and buy them lol!
hidrocor ice.jpg

I think being compared to Lucy Liu is a compliment. She was cast as one of Charlie's Angels, so what does that tell you? Her character in Ally McBeal was constantly the object of either lust or envy, so there you go. I think that you look a little like Lucy Liu as well. I don't know about 321 Contacts, but it seems like every time I say "Look at that person over there. Doesn't she look like so-and-so"? the other person kind of gives me a Wayne's World reaction: "No," followed by spasms of laughter.

Looking forward to more pictures.

ahh! Im not used to wearing contacts daily.. but today I wore the
EOS Dolly Eye Green!!

(sorry for the side shots.. if I do straight shots sometimes I look like a chameleon. ahahaha)

in natural morning light
EOS Dolly Eye Green.jpg

and indoor with flash
EOS Dolly Eye Green 2.jpg

Seems like everyone here are more familiar with american/european lenses...so I thought I would put some insight into the asian lenses.. for they are the only ones I own =(

These are pretty comfortable.. I think the EOS lenses are more comfortable than the GEOs...
and the EOS lenses are WAY more pigments.. its sort of TOO bright.. and makes your eye look beyond unnatural lol!
I think it would be more suited for halloween or if your bold.. like me! ahaha
I dont see any tunnel vision and I can wear them all day at work without having put in eye drops or get any irritations.
The GEOs usually gives me irritation and dries out my eyes probably around 4-5 hours.
nehooters~ let me know if you guys have any Qs regarding them.. there not the greatest.. it does make your eyes look bigger like sailor moon.. or those anime characters..
Thats why I feel SO blessed to have found you guys!! bc my goal was not to try to look like some bulging eye anime character lol I want to look natural.. cant wait to try my soloticas!!
so I am going to buy 1 solotica hidrocor.. i think in Mel this friday from a personal seller conveniently right in my neighborhood.. but then im also going to order them on wrlens.com
I heard some people sell replicas so I want to be able to determine if the seller may have replicas if the ones I get from wrlens feel/look different.
andddddd I dont have the patients to wait for my lenses for a month! :O!! I need to satisfy my childish "now" needs by at least getting one from the seller here. teehehe
I still have to show you guys the
1. GEO Twins Grey
2. Geo Twins Honey

tootles!

Thanks for the pictures, jyjyfty. They look to be a dark green color, which you don't often see. At least, I don't. They look really nice, and the EOS lenses at least seem to be quite comfortable for you, although it seems like the GEOS aren't too bad either.

I can't wait to see the "twins".

Those contacts are a little hard to see in those pictures. Were you trying to hide them?

Thanks for posting all those pictures. You certainly add a decorative touch to this thread. I'm looking forward to seeing those brown lenses, even though they aren't your favorite. Maybe you can move a little closer to the camera so we can see the color better.

Wayne: No.

Wayne: No.

Those do look nice on you, jyjyfty. Thanks for posting the pictures. I agree with BusDriver than you should maybe do some close ups. No so close that all you see is one big eyeball, but close enough so that we can see the color of the lenses. So far so good though.

Hi jyjyfty, and welcome to lens 101.

I hope those Hidrocor lenses work out for you. Those are pretty expensive too, aren't they? How long do they last? Are they the vial lenses that can last for a year if you're careful?

Default Solotica

Hey, I'm new here too.. However I'm not new to contacts.. I've been wearing them for about ten years now. I've always stuck to freshlook..I wear the colorblends but before they came out with these I had the regular colors. The colorblends are nice but I want them to be a little brighter/lighter..I like the grey the best. I have dark brown eyes, and they still stand out with the grey freshlook colorblends, but like I said I want more.
I am thinking about buying the solotica as well..I've seen many video clips and etc on them and I can't decide if I want the quartzo color, or the graphite. I don't like how green-ish colors look on me so that's why I'm looking for something with more of a grey/blue-ish color to it. I just need to figure out how to post pics, then I can show everyone what they look like. I also bought the natural touch brand lenses in grey, and I look scary with them on.lol they are way too light.
I'm nervous about trying any lenses because they always look different online and etc then when you get them they don't look like the color you wanted. I bought mine from visiondirect.com but they don't have solotica there. This is a good site though, I told them that these lenses weren't how they advertised online, and they sent me another pair just in case these were defective, and I sent them back and they will now give me a store credit back..so I can buy something else.
I wish most contacts weren't so expensive!

The pic I'm attaching is with the FreshLook ColorBlends in grey..

Hi there dee25. Welcome to Lens 101. You've got really pretty eyes!

Solotica lenses are nice, but they're kind of expensive. Why don't you click on the red button up at the top of the page and check out Lens.com? They don't have Solotica, but to give you an idea of their prices, they have FreshLook ColorBlends for $29.95 for a box of 6 lenses, compared to $33.99 at Vision Direct. Four bucks is four bucks, right?

Default Save Some Money

Hi dee25. Cheezhed is right. You should save your money and get some FreshLook ColorBlends. Soloticas are really nice looking lenses, but the FreshLooks are almost as beautiful for a much better price. He/she quoted a price of $29.95 for a box of 6 lenses, versus . . . brace yourself . . . $42.50--for one Solotica lens at wrlens.com!

Cheezhed is also right in that you have beautiful eyes.

Hi Stairwaytoheaven,
Thanks.. Yea Im just tired of freshlook..been wearing them for ten years lol.. I want something new.. I don't like dying my hair much and etc so contacts is the only thing I can experiment with. So I'm just going to keep researching different brands and see what I can find. I still have about 7 pairs of freshlook left...so I have time.

You're still wanting color contacts, right? Just not necessarily FreshLook ColorBlends. That's understandable. The whole point of Color Contact Lenses is to change things up, right?

Unfortunately, I'm not very experienced with color contacts, so I really don't know what brand I could recommend that would be similar to the ColorBlends. You may just want to check out all the color contacts offered on Lens.com. Just go to this page: http://www.lens.com/contact-lenses/department95.asp

If you're looking for lenses you only have to replace once a year, check out the vial lenses: http://www.lens.com/contact-lenses/department101.asp

Cool. When did you meet Lucy Liu? Evidently she didn't comment on your resemblance. She's a good person to be compared to. I like to see pictures of her smiling because her character was so mean on Ally McBeal.

Remember when you said "If you can get them to enable it I will dance for everyone"? I don't know how to upload a video here, but maybe you can just take a series of pictures so we can see your moves.

Wow, yeah, those are pretty intense Dee. Maybe you should try something in a bronze or a honey color.

Yes def intense lol.. I was thinking about just wearing them at night, instead of throwing them away. Yea ive tried honey and etc...hate them lol. for some reason I hate those colors on my complexion. I've been wearing contacts for over 10 yrs...The best ones I have found for me are greys, blues, and violets. But I stick to the freshlook colorblend grey, I just still want a change and it's hard to find contacts that look nice.

Ah, a dark haired beauty I see.

Me, personally, I'm not a big fan of the Solotica lenses because they're too vivid and flashy. They're nice if you want everyone to comment on them, but if you're looking for a more subtle approach, you may want to go with something like FreshLook ColorBlends in Sterling Grey or Gemstone Green.

I found a whole thread full of beautiful people, but I want you to scroll down to post #75.
That's right. 75.
There you will see a girl who calls herself karol.beck. She has put pictures of herself in Gemstone Green and Sterling Grey FreshLook ColorBlends. She looks really great and very natural (even if some of the of the pictures are really big). Check it out:

I like those grey lenses on you, dee25.

If the price of contact lenses is bringing you down, I wouldn't recommend the Solotica lenses. They're kind of expensive. You can buy a box of six FLCB lenses for $29.95 at Lens.com, but just one Natural Colors Quartzo lens can set you back $38.25.

I don't think they're overly intense. How have people been reacting to them? Do they notice your grey contacts right away?

Soloticas expensive?! How long will those 6 Fresh Look lenses at $29.95 last you? A $90 pair of Soloticas lasts me a full year!

Too bad this girl never came back and posted a photo of her Quartzos. Such a gorgeous color.

Let's see, it depends on your doctor's instructions, but the manufacturer recommends that you change FreshLook ColorBlends once a week if you don't take them out at night. If you do take them out to sleep, they will last for two weeks. So one box will last for a maximum of six weeks. If my math is correct then you will need about 9 boxes for the year. $29.95 x 9 = $269.55 per year.

BUT . . . I may not have ninety dollars to spend on a pair of Solotica lenses right now. So I can buy a box of contact lenses now for thirty bucks and not have to worry about buying more until the end of February, at which point I will only have to come up with a another thirty dollars for my next fix.

Another advantage of six week lenses is that if I don't like the color, or they're a little bit uncomfortable, I'm not stuck with them for a year.

I'm not saying that you should throw your Soloticas away and buy some ColorBlends, I'm just saying that sometimes six-week lenses make more sense than annual.

You've pointed out some good reasons for purchasing a disposable lens like Freshlook rather than an annual like Solotica. Another reason would be if your lenses tend to develop a lot of protein deposits. I'm fortunate that mine don't, but I think if you have issues with that, disposables are better than annuals.

But I still think characterizing Solotica lenses as "expensive" is a tad misleading. If you can afford the initial cost, they are an economical alternative over the long run.

"If you can afford the initial cost." If there's some concern that people may not be able to pay for their first pair of Solotica lenses along with the exam and what not, then I think the label of "expensive" is an accurate one.

Well, you'd have to pay for an exam no matter what kind of lenses you end up purchasing. If your budget is that tight that you can't swing the $50-$70 difference between Freshlooks and Soloticas, I would suggest you simply wear your glasses for 3 months and save up the $$ you would have spent on FreshLooks. Then you'll be able to purchase a whole year's worth of much nicer looking contacts at no additional cost. I might be a tad biased.

What do you mean by "quality"? You may say that the color is better, but that's subjective. Is it maybe that the lenses correct vision better, or they're more comfortable or they hold up better to being handled? Is there something that doesn't depend on a person's opinion?

that's like saying that whether a hot dog is better than steak is a matter of opinion........of course it is a matter of taste, but one is clearly of better quality.here is a picture comparison, you decide

Thanks for the side-by-side comparison. Have you worn both of these brands, syliva? Are you able to tell us if the Topazio lenses are more comfortable to wear over the course of the day?

Soloticas are very comfortable--it took a few days for my eyes to get used to annuals since I'm used to dailies but now I can wear them for 18 hours straight

I've tried a pair of trial Freshlooks at the optometrist's office years and years ago and they were comfortable enough, but they top out at -8 and my prescription is now -9
I've seen Freshlooks look good on some people but the pupil hole is just too large

Wow, from dailies to annuals. That's about as wide a stretch as you can go, isn't it? After changing your lenses every day, was it hard to wrap your head around the idea of lenses you can wear for a year?

Nah I've been wearing lenses since I was 12--about 16 years now--and when I started they only had annuals

I still use my dailies often--I don't want blue eyes 24/7--and the difference isn't so noticeable now

It sounds like you've found your contact lens niche, sylvia.

I feel strange not capitalizing your name, but I guess that's they way you like it, huh?

eh who bothers with capitalization on the internet anymore?
I'm just happy if people don't get their 'your' and 'you're' confused-and forget 'their', 'there', and 'they're'--ugh

Yeah, people are definitely getting sloppy with their typing these days. Sometimes I wonder how many people go to their jobs and have to remind themselves that they can't use "ur" for "your" and "plz" for "please," or say "lol."

Back to work.

Come to Lens 101, everybody! It's neat!

I do. I'm just old-fashioned enough to think that I should type in a forum the same way I would type a letter. I wonder how many people sit at a typewriter and peck out things like "LOL" or "LMBO" or "BRB"?

I'm sure there are a few of you out there.

I like the glasses on that typewriter model, BusDriver. I haven't used an actual type writer for quite a while, but I believe in doing my best to type things out in full. I have to do a lot of re-typing when I misspell a word, though. I don't think many people misspell "LOL."
