Default Best colored contacts for dark eyes?

I just wasted precious $$ on a pair of colored contacts because I had thought/hoped that they would look as fabulous as the not-so-close-up pictures I've seen online, and also how they looked in my own eyes under the dim artificial light at the optomitrist's office. Unfortunately up close I look like a friggin' alien with them on. I am now more desperate than ever to find the most realistic possible light-colored contact lenses for dark brown eyes. I have been searching high and low on this website but can not seem to find a single thread dedicated to the BEST COLORED CONTACTS FOR DARK EYES. Those of you with dark eyes who have tried a variety of lenses please give and explain your opinion. Thank you!!!

Hello, here I am. How are you? You sound frustrated. Maybe I can help you.

I did a search here in Lens 101 and found this thread: http://www.lens101.com/color-contact-lenses/77140-sterling-grey-colourblends.html

In this thread (post #4) we see IceQueen792, who described her eye color as "very dark brown, so dark u can barely discern the pupil from the iris." In the thread she's at her prom looking gorgeous in her green dress and Sterling Grey FreshLook ColorBlends.

I hope that helps.

Hi Wierdscience. Thank you for responding. Yes--I did see beautiful Icequeen, and I am considering getting the lenses she was wearing. I was just hoping to find some definitive answer--I'm looking for the "holy grail" of colored contacts for dark eyes. I see a lot of people extolling the virtues of Soloticas, but just as many seem to prefer Waicons or Natural Touch (those are the ones I already have/dislike). So with equal numbers of people prefering each lens, perhaps there is no single "best" lens.

Hi Catt--

I didn't know I could ask for "demos" when I had my fitting. But I did receive a free box of blue FreshLook ColorBlends because it took so long for my Natural Touch lenses to arrive. (BTW--I also live in the SF Bay Area.)

So we have Blue Cat and catt both wearing Color Contact Lenses and living in San Francisco. Maybe you two can start a club or something.

In the meantime, thank you catt for your suggestion of the trial/demo lenses. That's a great idea. Blue Cat, I hope you keep in touch and let us know if you find a pair of contacts that you like. They may not be the "Holy Grail," but I hope they're something suitable anyway.

Okay, so I picked up some Sterling Gray Freshlook demo lenses today. I must say, they look totally unremarkable on me--probably because my skin is rather pale and so are the lenses = not enough contrast. On the other hand, my Natural Touch Baby Blues are also pretty pale but I think they look better on me than these. I will say that these lenses look fairly "natural", even if no one except the Goddess Athena has naturally gray eyes. I think I'm beginning to appreciate my NT lenses more now. I wore them to a party for the first time, and no one seemed to realize they weren't my real eye color--even people who were standing close to me.

Congratulations on nobody noticing your Natural Touch contacts, Blue Cat. Isn't it strange to spend all that money to wear something that you hope is invisible? I guess that's true for other things too, such as supportive undergarments, but we won't go there.

As for your "naturally gray eyes" observation, I think people do have naturally gray eyes. I knew a guy in school who used to look at me with what I called his "cold gray eyes" and as far as I know, he didn't wear contacts.

Can someone post a picture of their natural grey eyes to show Blue Cat here? Athena need not apply.

So you would like a close up of someone's eye?

I don't know about you, Wierdscience, but I refer to see someone's face with the contact lenses in their eyes. That's a fair measure of how realistic the are. When you approach someone while you're wearing contact lenses, they're not going to get in your face and search your eyes for contact lenses--hopefully.

hi... im also at a crossroad...
Ive been usung durasoft compliments for years but now im a bit pressed to change or find an alternative since Durasoft , once the leader in Colored years ago, (and a company of Ciba, same as Freshlook) may soon dissappear.... I have been told how unusually realistic the color of durasoft is and i have over the years constantly compared it to freshlook .... The palette is different... theres something very natural about its composition even if freshlook has a Colorblends collection.....

It is sooooo very much more natural looking than frshlook somehow....... Is there an equivalent to durasofts compliments line in Freshlook?
(not the colorblends with the black outer rim)

Durasoft can still be ordered but its getteing harder and freshlook seems to be all the rage.. Ever the man on Youtube demonstrating colored lenses says freshlook is the leader in colored contacts

Anybody's input or advice is most wellcome

Thanks

Surfing the 'net doesn't tell me how natural the Durasoft Complements contacts look, but I can research the company. Here's something I found at hoovers.com, a website that gives you corporate information about the company of your choice. Here's their entry about CIBA VISION: "CIBA VISION is the eye care unit of Novartis. The company researches, develops, and manufactures contact lenses and lens care products. Its contact lens brands include Air Optix, Dailies, and FreshLook (a leader in the color contact lens market), and its lens care brands include Aquify and Clear Care. With major manufacturing facilities in the US, Canada, Germany, Malaysia, and Singapore, CIBA VISION supplies contact lens wearers in more than 70 countries. Products are sold by mass merchandisers, drugstores, supermarkets, optical retail chains, and eye care professionals, as well as by online retailers. The company was established in 1980 by Ciba-Geigy, which merged with Sandoz in 1996 to form Novartis."

If you want to know more, Hoovers will gladly sell you the entire report. In that excerpt it t certainly doesn't sound like they're getting ready to close up shop for good.

hi Eyebrowze thanks for your reply........Well ive looked around on the web and even when i inquire in opticals shops i keep getting info that Durasoft is being phased out or ordered less and less......and as i researched on the web its kinda harder to find durasoft.. Sorry i cant remember where but i read in one forum or post where someone said Durasoft is the dinasaur of the contacts world... i know people always have to keep up with the times (like changing your typically incandecent bulbs which have been around since Edisson invented them, to the low watt energy saver bulbs ...and eventually to LED bubs one day.... who knows whats after that...)

the point is i guess i eventually would also have to switch to Freshlook as it is more available or accessable and i guess the leader in contacts

(so they say)

However i can't seem to see or find a line in freshlook similar to the compliments line in Durasoft.. The colorblends has this dark outer ring which i have always found weird .. i tried it once and i kinda freaked out....even if the beautiful CNN reporter Ralitsa Vassileva has such dark rims in her dazzling tantalizing real blue eyes

Ill try again to look in the optical shops to see if they have something similar ......Or better yet i'll bring my old durasoft compliments with me so i can show it to the optometrist so they can look for something similar to it in their store..

btw i found this chart but its not really as close to the catalogue i once had of durasoft with a detail of the compliments line complex make up structure that gives it such depth

http://www.colormecontacts.com/durasoft.htm

i use the compliments green, extended wear.. simple. elegant, natural, and oh so realistic

i feel that, as the availability dictates, i must eventually resigned myself oneday to freshlook ...

Hi Titus of Asia Minor. That almost sounds like some kind of royal title, like "Mary Queen of Scots."

Have you asked your eye doctor about the availability of Durasoft contact lenses? Maybe you can practice wearing them as well as FreshLook contacts so you have the option to switch back as long as supplies last.

Do you mean Durasoft 3 Colors - Complements? If so they're still available from Lens.com: http://www.lens.com/contact-lenses/lens243.asp

That sounds like a good idea, pathfinder. I wonder if Titus likes it?
