Smile Today I just ordered Solotica Hidrocor Ocre for my Asian dark brown eyes

I just placed the order today after reading all these messages in this forum. I have to be honest, I was a little worried of the amount of astroturfing (when people associated with the brand post comments pretending to be users hyping said brand). I noticed a lot of strange comments hyping Solotica when a user asks for a more specific question.

WITH that said, when my Soloticas arrive I'll post pics and try to be as objective as possible. I was a Freshlook Colorblend in gray wearer for years, until I wanted my natural glossy dark brown peepers to show. Back in the late 90's it was fashionable and exciting to have colored contacts, but into the early 2000's the natural look started to become more prominent. I'm definitely very discerning when it comes to how I adorn my body, so this is more of a beauty/social experiment, and if it looks beautiful, then awesome!

About me: Asian with black hair and dark brown eyes (20/20 vision!), normal fairish skin. (I'll post a pic soon--I'm no great beauty, but woohoo pics!) I wanted the Hidrocor Ocre color because a few Asians of mixed descent naturally have lighter or honeyish brown eyes, and I was curious to see how that would look for me.

Yay!

Can some of you lovelies (male and female) pls post pics of your Solotica Hidrocor Ocre eyes?

I've never heard of the term "astroturfing" before. I have noticed, though, a steep increase in the number of people posting about Solotica contacts lately. This is especially odd seeing that the sponsor sells a ton of contact lenses, just not Soloticas. I suppose we should give the Lens 101 people kudos for not just deleting all those posts.

You also make an interesting point about the trends in contact lens wearing. So are you saying that people are going for a more natural look in 2010?

I look forward to those "woohoo"pictures, jadejade.

(PS--When looking for this picture of Homer Simpson to attach, the first one didn't work out and without thinking I went "D'oh!")

Looking forward to your pics. I also have dark brown eyes and am still trying to find the most natural colored lenses. I'm beginning to wonder if it's possible to have outstanding color without the fakery. I mean, the lenses have to be opaque in order to cover up dark eyes. So I don't see how they can't look fake, at least up close. But my husband had an interesting idea--it would seem, with so much advanced technology out there, that someone could figure out how to print an actual photograph on an eye onto a contact lens. The best thing to do in order to create depth would be to print a layer or two of translucent color over the opaque. They make micro micro chips, so why can't they make micro multi-layed lenses? Or something like that? Just wondering.

I have to say that although both lenses are beautiful, I like the Natural Colors better. just because of the dark ring around the edge. They give the lenses a nice "pop." Other than that they're very similar, though. Thanks for posting the picture, heidi.

That's not a bad idea Blue Cat. The only reason I can think of why they haven't done what you suggested is perhaps a contact lens with so many layers of color is uncomfortable, I don't know.

Maybe someone from a color contact lens manufacturer will see this thread and go "Dude, never thought of that!"

Hopefully, you can get a cut of the action.

thank you SO much for this photo Heidi it has really helped a lot. i have medium brown eyes which kind of have reddish/orangey/yellow tones depending on the lighting and im an very interested in Solotica Ocres, but i was unsure about whether i should get the NC's or Hidrocors only because ive heard a lot about the yellow ring since they have no limbal ring around them. but i think that with this picture, ive deff made a decision and im excited to place my order how long did it take you to get your contacts once u placed the order online?

When was viewing YouTube videos and pictures they basically look the same to me. The only difference I have been able to tell is that the Cors don't have a limbal ring and the NCs have a lighter limbal ring when compared to the Charmes. I wasn't able to see a difference in color myself even though I believe the NCs are suppose to have a lighter opacity (I may be saying that backwards). Meaning they are the ones that show the most of your natural eye color, which is why I chose the NCs (Mel).

Of course, if I'm wrong someone please let me know.

i have to say that the 'pop' effect is what makes color contacts 'fake-ish' in my opinion! they both look very similar bt the one on the left has that 'pop' like u said. which i think makes it look a little more fake!

yeah! personally as a person with very dark eyes when i tried the natural colors i found it looking very 'my eyes are popping, cz i have lenses in' the sort of 'sticker effect' you try to avoid! because of the black ring.

I jst order adore contacts as i have read that they come very close to solotica lenses! too bad i couldnt get the tritone in perscription!

awww...beauty is in the eye of the beholder ;-)

I believe that noone is ever better looking than someone else because everyone is beautifull in someone's eyes! while someone might find a certain person very atractive someone else might find that person very appalling!

seriously who is to say that one person looks better than the other|?

People who wear contact lenses and come to Lens 101 are beautiful.

I'm sorry, was that "astroturfing"? (See post #1 in this thread.)

Welcome, miroma.

Usually people wear colored contacts because they don't like their natural color, but some people think their natural God-given color is fine. They just want something different, and I don't have a problem with that.

Well, good. No one has any problems and we're all happy.

I remember reading something that said that if you want to start a conversation with someone, just complain about something:

"Sure is hot, isn't it?"
"Boy, have you ever seen such long lines?"
"These prices are ridiculous. Look, ten dollars for this."
"Captain Picard sure makes Kirk look like a Starfleet cadet, doesn't he?"

So what do we talk about now?

I'm not sure what the original poster is talking about when it comes to 'astroturfing'--that kind of behavior is usually pretty obvious, like plugging one website in particular or something-I haven't seen anything remotely like that- In South America Solotica is a reputable brand like Freshlook or Acuvue....they wouldnt have to resort to those tactics

This site is pretty good about people promoting their own websites. As far as the Solotica lenses, I've never tried them myself, but most people seem to like them as long as they can get them.

Yes, I agree. I don't see anything really bad about someone posting about a brand of contacts that they really like, even if that brand doesn't happen to be sold by the sponsor. As you say, that's very different from "fake posts" written by someone who works for a competitor "in order to generate hype." Lens 101 is not here to generate hype. They're here to help people.

Soloticas are very unique lenses--when you first see them they are so light you don't think they will show up on your eyes-but the tint interacts with your natural color to produce the effect--that is why they can achieve a drastic color change without looking garish or harsh

Have you seen Acuvue 2 Colours - Enhancers? They're suppose to blend with your natural color rather than cover it up. Hopefully they look as good as those Soloticas you mentioned.

Definitely not--Soloticas are not enhancers--they work with the darkest of eyes

Acuvue 2 Enhancers are only meant to tint light colored eyes, they may do that very well for people with light eyes, but on dark eyes they are useless

Definitely not--Soloticas are not enhancers--they work with the darkest of eyes

Acuvue 2 Enhancers are only meant to tint light colored eyes, they may do that very well for people with light eyes, but on dark eyes they are useless
Yeah, you said above that Soloticas "[interact] with your natural color to produce . . . a drastic color change without looking garish or harsh." You want to totally change the color of your eyes, right? Not just enhance them?

enhancers are only suitable for light eyes--the girl in this pic has natural blue grey eyes, and is wearing an enhancer on the eye to our left

They will not show up on dark eyes, if they do the results will be very very subtle

my eyes are brown

I have Solotica Quartzos and Topazios

Both completely change my eye color, and lighten my eyes considerably

Thanks for answering so fast. Have people comment on the change in your eye color?

People that don't know me just believe that my eyes are that color
People that do know me are shocked and freaked out at first, but overall they like it

It can be freaky when someone that you know for having brown eyes is suddenly sporting baby blue

Here's a little before and after for you so you can see what I mean
