Default Another Solotica Thread.... Reccomendations?

I am interested in buying a pair of Solotica lenses. They are so pretty and I've been wanting them for a while. The problem is I am very very interested in either the Graphite or Ocres but I'm open to any suggestions. Also, which would look more natural on me? Hidrocor or Hidrocharme?

Here is a pic of me:

Btw, how are they in terms of comfort???

Hi mema, and welcome to lens.com. Thank you for posting that picture. You've got beautiful brown eyes. I'm afraid I don't know very much about Solotica lenses, except that almost every new post these days seems to mention them.

One other kind that I've read a lot about would be the Expressions Colors. Look around Lens 101 and find out a bit about the Expressions lenses before you spend your money on the Soloticas. I checked the price on Expressions colors, and you can buy them for as low as $35 for a box of 6 lenses.
Soloticas are another story. I found Natural Colors Ice on line for $42.50--for one lens! I hope those Natural Colors Ice lenses are very, very nice for that price. For that kind of money, I'd expect them to give me telescopic vision so I can look at the planets at night.

Hey look. It's Saturn!

Thanks for the suggestion, BPiper. I will look into the Expression lenses but I am also pretty certain that I also want the Soloticas. I've been wanting them for a long time and I don't mind spending money on them as they are probably the most natural lenses I've seen and they are yearly.

I mema. Thanks for posting a picture of your pretty face.

Bpiper quoted you a price of $35 for a box of Expressions, but technically that's only if you buy more than two boxes from Lens.com. If you only buy two boxes from them, the price jumps to . . . $36.95 per box for a total of $73.90.

I know you want to have really nice looking contacts, but really--$42.50 each? That sure sounds like a lot of money when the Expressions are only $74 for six pairs, according to Bpiper. Do you really think the Soloticas look that much better? If you wanted to buy six pairs of Solotica lenses, we're talking 42.5 x 12, which is . . . $510! Wow!

You say you've been wanting the Soloticas for a long time, but I just hope you don't have "buyer's remorse," when you pop them in and say "Yeah, they're really pretty but, I could have gotten a different brand for a lot less money."

I don't want to pressure you, but I just don't see a reason why you wouldn't take an opportunity to save some money. $74 compared to $510.

Before you put down $85 for a pair of Solotica contact lenses, really think about the Expressions Colors.

Thanks for your suggestion as well but how long do the Expressions last? I am assuming one pair lasts a month which is why I have to buy 2 boxes of six. The Soloticas are annual disposables so I think the price evens out?

I really want very natural looking lenses and Soloticas are from what I've seen, by far the most natural lenses on the market. I've heard mixed reviews on the Expressions but it seems hard to find any pics. What about Waicon or Europa lenses. Are they any more affordable? I hear they are not very fake looking either.

Either way I really do plan on getting the Soloticas. If I do get any other pair of lenses, they'd probably be more or less back-up pairs.

Hi mema. Welcome to Lens 101. Looks like the members (Or at least one of them.) is looking out for your budget. Let's check Bpiper's math, shall we?

The Expressions contact lenses last for a month, according to the Coopervision website. So using Bpiper's prices, two boxes of Expressions contacts (One for each eye.) come out to $73.90. (2 x $36.95--the price per box if you only by 1 or 2 boxes).

Each box contains 6 lenses, enough for 3 month's wear (since you wear two at a time.) That means that $73.90 (2 boxes) worth of Expressions contact lenses will last for 6 months. So to get enough contact lenses for two eyes to last for twelve months, you'll need 4 boxes. Are you with me so far?

Two boxes (6 moth's supply) of Expressions contact lenses is $73.90. $73.90 times 2 (12 month's supply.) is $295.60 for a year's supply.

Compare that to Solotica lenses, which cost $42.50 each, according to Bpiper's sources. So for a pair it would be $85.

So actually, if my figuring is better than Bpiper's (And judging by how long it took to write this post, I'm not at all confident of that.) you really would spend less money on a yearly lens like Solotica.

Please, if anyone sees any problems with my figuring--like I did with Bpiper's--set me straight so we can find the truth. I tried to explain it step-by-step so if there are any flaws in my logic it would be easier to see.

Carry on.

Hi Elizabeth

One box of 6 Expressions lenses cost $36.95. So for one year, you need 12*2 = 24 lenses. i.e. 4 boxes totalling $147.80/year. But since you are buying 4 boxes of lenses, not just 1 or 2, the price is less I think = 4*$35 = $140/year.

Soloticas cost, by given figures, is $42.50 each = $85/year.

Assume both lenses require the same solutions so this is balanced out.

Soloticas are cheaper by quite a margin.

Disadvantages of the Solotica lenses is that they are annual and you could be out of pocket if you loose or tear a lens. Also, although I have never worn any coloured lens, I know that annual lenses will start to get some deposits on them from about 9 months so will be a little less comfortable. Each person is different, but that is my experience with non-coloured Hydron/Coopervision Omniflex lenses.

Against that, from most posters here, Solotica lenses are more natural than most others.

Of course you may like the Solotica lenses so much, you splash the cash on a whole host of other Solotica lenses

Thank you so much for simplifying the calculations, Knotlob. I'm glad you pointed out that even though the Solotica lenses may be cheaper in the long run, there are still some disadvantages to buying them. I hope that gives Lens 101 readers something to think about.

'tis true, Elizabeth. I just read something here on Lens 101 that said that some people find the Solotica lenses unbearably dry after only a few hours.

Gurrllll, lol first off are your naturally beautiful, love your eye shape.
I would recommend for you either Solotica Hidrocor Crystal, more bluish-green gray or Solotica Hidrocor Icemint which is more greenish-grayish. I suggest those ones cause they go really well with our skin tone(we have very similiar skin tone) and the other colors like Solotica Mel and Solotica Ocre are getting played out now, their still awesome colors regardless lol, but just something different you might want to try. Also personally, I prefer the Hidrocor,(I only have one pair, their very expensive lol) because I don't like the dark limbal ring on hidrocharme, but that depends on the person and their eyeball lol.
Enjoy and good luck!!!

Mema,

Did you ever get the Solotica? I have the same skin tone and eye color as you and I have been thinking about getting the Solotica Hidrocor Ocre for a few months now. I'm just afraid of getting them without trying them on since they look different on different people.

Hi Bluechick. I'm not Mema, but I think I can help you. Could you get a trial pair of Hidrocor lenses from your eye doctor?

Hey KSCbase!

I wasn't aware that I could get Solotica trail pair. My eye doc carries limited brands so I doubt that he has the trial but I can definitely try to find out or go to a doc that could help me get the trial. Thanks for letting me know.

Cool. I'm glad someone was able to give you a helpful answer, bluechick. I probably would have said the same thing, but I guess KSCbase got to you first. Let us know if you're able to get the trail lenses.
Have you thought about FreshLook ColorBlends? They're almost as fancy as the Solotica lenses, and they're good for up to two weeks, so if you decide you'd like to try a different color, you're not stuck with yearly lenses.

There is no FDA Approval for these lenses I understand. If the prospective wearer is in the USA, I think it may be difficult to have an optician/ECP prescribe Solotica lenses, so they would be unlikely to have trial lenses available to try.

Also, they are effectively VIAL lenses, not the Daily or 2 Weekly/Monthly disposable lenses, so again this makes it less likely that trial lenses will be available in N America.

You could naturally buy the Solotica lenses yourself and have an ECP check the fit, but that doesn't help if you are trying to determine the best colour and Solotica model would suit you best.

Hi Sk8erBoi,

I currently wear Freshlook Colorblend Hazel, I have been wearing the Colorblends for about 3 yrs now but I just don't like the way they feel...very uncomfortable, blurry vision. I decided to go ahead and look for something new now.

I just read a post a little while ago where someone said that their Solotica Orce looks very similar to the Freshlook Colorblend Hazel.

Hi Bluechick. I'm surprises to read about your trouble with ColorBlends. I don't think I've read any complaints like yours here. Here's hoping your new lenses feel better.

This is another surprise from this thread. I thought I'd heard that Solotica contact lenses are not available to patients in the United States, but I didn't realize it was because they don't have FDA approval. Why don't they? This site has so many rave reviews of Solotica contacts that I'm beginning to think that they're the Best Contacts Ever. They look great, but on the other hand, they're expensive and apparently you can't even buy them if you're a Yankee Doodle Dandy.

I understand it costs big bucks to obtain US FDA Approval, so Solotica have decided it just doesn't make financial sense to go through the approval process.

People in the US CAN buy Solotica lenses from outside the US, by Mail Order.
Check out LoveMe's posts - I think she said she had found a US seller who does somehow manage to sell the Solotica lenses from within the US. She will be able to PM you the address of the seller.

If you check the economics, I don't think Solotica lenses are expensive when compared to coloured disposable lenses over a period of a year. Remember that the Solotica lenses are VIAL or Annual lenses.

It's good to know that people from the US can buy Solotica contact lenses. Too bad Lens.com doesn't seem to carry them.

I did a price check and just sort of randomly chose different kinds of Solotica lenses and compared them in price to the vial lenses available from Lens.com and they seem pretty close. However, I don't know if I'm comparing apples to apples because I didn't match up materials and such. I more or less matched up catchy name to catchy name.
Do you think you can be more helpful than I've been in comparing the price of Solotica lenses to that of other similar contact lenses?

The pricing comparison was done recently on this forum (last week or two). It should come up in a search.

Thanks Knotlob. I'm just about to push away from this computer for today. Maybe I'll try tomorrow and let you know.

If anyone else would like to try the search suggested here, by all means, go for it.

Btw, how are they in terms of comfort???
Hi mema. Thanks for posting a picture. You're very beautiful, especially your brown eyes.

I'm curious about your beautiful head scarf. Do you cover your hair for religious reasons? If you do, I'm wondering why changing your eye color is accepted while showing your hair is not. I'm not trying to be disrespectful, I'm respectfully trying to clear up some of my own ignorance. Thank you for your patience.

I was just wondering the same thing, dragongirl. Perhaps we're misunderstanding the purpose of the scarf. It's beautiful though. I like the gold threads.

How about those trial lenses, bluechick? Did you get them?

I just rediscovered this thread. I had forgotten my login info for a while and finally it snapped in my mind.

I didn't get the soloticas yet but I did get some American lenses. I plan on getting the soloticas soon, however.

As for your question, I don't take offense to it at all.

Yes, I do wear it for religious reasons. I am a Muslim. I personally wear the veil for a variety of reasons, the main being modesty. I believe that the average guy on the street has really done nothing for me so he doesn't deserve to see me at my best. I hope that makes sense. I do however wear make up just because, like any other woman, I like to look polished and presentable. It's a personal choice though.

To my knowledge, colored lenses aren't considered sinful or bad as long as you're not trying to deceive people. I personally dont wear my colored lenses to any occasion where I'm not getting dressed up. I usually wear them to things such as dinner partings, family/friend outings, etc. Basically any time when I would snap a lot of pictures.

Also to Kamille, thanks a lot! I will look into getting those lenses. Thanks for the recommendation!

And thanks a lot for the suggestions, I did take them into consideration which is why I held off from the soloticas but I'm really interested in getting them soon. The compliments were really nice as well.

Again, apologies for the late reply. x_x

Sorry for not replying sooner - was really busy with school and work. I contacted my doc but had no luck getting the trails so I just left things there since I was really busy.

I'm thinking to go ahead and order the solotica in hidrocor ocre now. I normally don't like purchasing anything without trying first but I've had my eyes on the hidrocor for a while. I'm afraid I might not like them but I guess I will never know until I get them. Also, I've came across Adore Bi-Tone color contacts...I've heard that they are comparable to Solotica so I'm thinking about getting them also but not sure. Hopefully I'll place my order soon and update.

Thanks for checking back bluechick. We were getting worried about you.

This is my shameless advertisement for the sponsor.

Hey if it turns out that you feel like those Solotica lenses are over-priced, try some FreshLook ColorBlends from our sponsor. They look almost as good and will probably save you a lot of money.

Yay, Lens.com!

Update: I finally got my Solotica Hidrocor in Ocre and I'm not really happy with the results. Although the color looks very natural, I feel that my natural eyes look much better because the iris is bigger compared to when I wear the Hidrocor. My eyes don't standout at all. Now I'm thinking I should have ordered the Natural Color or Hidrocharme for my eyes.

Additionally, the Ocre ended up being brown on my eyes whereas I was looking for more of a grey/hazel look.

I did compare the Solotica Hidrocor Ocre to my Freshlook Colorblend in Pure Hazel and the color is quiet similar however the Colorblend are lighter (more visible) and standout more but the Solotica obviously looks much more natural.

I'm sorry those lenses were a disappointment to you. However, I read your post and it seems like you want "natural" lenses that "stand out." Are you sure such a thing exists?

I'm going to join ElaineKramer and suggest that you try Lens.com. They have what they call "vial" lenses. They're beautiful and can last a year, but as you might expect, they're kind of expensive. Take a look and see what you think. This is a close up of a Durasoft 3 Lens.

Hi there,

Thanks for getting back with me. I really appreciate the suggestion, I will definitely look into Durasoft 3 Lens. I'm ok with the price long as I'm satisfied. You might be right - natural looking lenses that stand out might not exist, honestly I don't expect something magical but surely would like something comparable to my current lens - Freshlooks in Pure Hazel but with better comfort.

Here's where you can find color options and pricing for those Durasoft lenses.
