Default Contact Lens Color Be Prescrption?

An eye doctor's job in fitting contact lenses is to tell you what base curve and diameter you will need. Have any of you ever gotten help from your ophthalmologist to choose a color for your contacts? Is that in their job description?

I don't see why not. I don't wear color contacts, but if I ever should decide to start wearing them, I think the eye doctor should be able to help me pick out a color.

Maybe they should have specialists on staff who can help. You could call the service Queer Eyes For Straight Guys.

I think that's a great idea, Curlupndye. "Queer Eyes," that's great.

Nice work on the pun there, Curly.

I don't wear contact lenses, but when I get fitted for glasses, I've had the lady who was helping me look at a frame style I was considering and say something like "Eeeeeerrrrmmm . . . here, let's try these here instead."
I appreciated that. If I wanted someone to just say "Those look great" all the time, I wouldn't have asked for an opinion. So I guess you can say that when I ask "What do you think?" I'm really asking "Am I making a mistake?"

I know what you mean. In a situation such as that, you may not want to know "Do you like these?" but you might want to ask instead: "Is there any reason I might hate these?"

Yes, it's crucial to get someone who can give you honest input.

When I first got my glasses in grade school, the ones that my eye doctor was trying out on me at first were really ugly. A lot of them had the brown plastic frames. I humored him for a bit, then asked about some metal frames, and found a pair I liked. So he really wasn't much help.

Good thing you spoke up. You would have had to walk around in those ugly glasses just because your eye doctor liked them. Bleah.

I wonder if any of my friends here on Lens 101 had the experience of wearing glasses that they didn't particularly like, but their mom or dad or boyfriend or eye doctor liked them and so they wore them.
