Default Question about Diameter of Colored Contacts

I was wondering if anyone knows if colored contacts are SUPPOSED to fit exactly over your own iris? Like limbal ring over limbal ring? I ask because my FreshLook ColorBlends are big and go beyond my natural iris and i can see two limbal rings...my own limbal ring and the one on my colored contact? does anyone know? i am going back to the eye doctor tomorrow to ask him some concerns im having, one being this questions. When im indoors my pupils are somewhat large and trying to look through these colored contacts is impossible, my pupil is looking at the colored part of the contact and its making my vision blurry. my vision is better without these contacts on indoors?? maybe the diameter is a problem for the limbal ring and maybe i need a larger pupil hole. Somebody offered advice and said there was no colored contacts available with larger pupil holes. Also he said to check out vial lenses? im going to research alittle more but if anyone else has info or suggestions please let me know otherwise i give up on colored contacts. Thanks guys!

Hi lisaeckman27. Welcome to our humble web forum. I'm sorry to hear about the problems you're having. You sound like you have a classic case of "undersized contact lens pupils." I looked around but I didn't find very much information about the pupil diameter of contact lenses. A couple of sites mentioned a diameter of 4 and 4.5 millimeters. Apparently your pupils are bigger than that.

I found a thread here in Lens.com that talks about Colormax contact lenses. The people in the thread are saying that the pupil openings are too big, but they might be just what you're looking for.

Hi,

Usually, concerning "ready to wear" colored lenses, the "pupilhole" diameter is 4, 5 or 6 millimeters.

Some brands (FXEYES, 9mm FX) suggest choosing all the measurements ; dia - bc - pupilhole.

The only way to know and to be sure is to go to your eyes doctor

Hello SkyIsJade. Welcome to Lens 101. I agree that you should consult your favorite eye care professional when you want to wear contact lenses.

One question though. What are "ready to wear" contact lenses? Are there some kinds that are not ready to wear?

Hi,

"Ready to wear" (my bad english probably) !
I mean lenses for a person who doesn't need power, or special dia, or special bc, or special water content ...

For example, i need minimum 55% water content, bc = 8.6 and dia = 13.8 or 14 maximum. I can't wear whatever lenses.

So I suppose "ready to wear" is the opposite of "custom made," right?

Wow, what an enthusiastic response! I feel like there should be balloons coming down from the ceiling.

So you said you don't need any special power for your contact lenses? Does that mean you can see perfectly well without them? In that case, you could ask for "plano" lenses, with no prescription power.

I can imagine it. Quite a few people wear color contact lenses "for fun." So many that they came up with the word "plano" to describe this phenomenon.

Except maybe that grey haired lady at bottom center. She's not exactly "going wild."

"Balloons coming down from the ceiling". That's funny.

What's a forum member have to do to find a picture on line of balloons falling from the ceiling? Well, whatever is required, I just didn't have it because I found tons of pictures of balloons on the ceiling, but no pictures of balloons falling from the ceiling.

Oh well, it was a nice try BusDriver.

I had the same problem:

Then I was fortunate enough to find this. Is this what you had in mind?

Try the key words "balloon drop."
