Default So frustrating ...!

So i just got back from my optemitrist appointment, and i want to get freshlook colored contacts.. The guy proceeded to argue with me saying ''Just wait another year they'll be coming out with sillicon colored contacts thats way more comftorable for your eye than plastic.'' He gave me a prescription for clear contacts which i have to go order by the end of the week, im going to proceed to argue with him. The only reason why i wanted contacts in the first place is because i wanted to change the color of my eye.. Its honestly frustrating and im looking for the people of this forum to help me find out a way to convince him...

Hi tjkid,

I don't know your eye doctor. (At least, I don't think I do.) It almost sounds as if he has an ulterior motive to sell you these "silicon colored contacts."
These "FreshLook colored contacts" you mentioned, are they FreshLook ColorBlends? Those a pretty popular lenses, so I don't see why you have to wait a year for a different kind to be released--that is, if the release isn't delayed for some reason.
You may want to tell your doctor--politely--that you'd really like to try the FreshLook contacts, and when the new ones come in, you can try them and see if you want to switch. If he refuses, then you may have to find another doctor. Your doctor works for you, and if he doesn't do satisfactory work, he can work for someone else.

Let us know how it goes.

I'm not sure what you mean by "pin number." If you mean prescription, here's the thing. If you order from a good company like Lens.com, they will call and confirm your prescription with your doctor. It's for your safety, but in your case it might work against you. If they call your doctor and he says "I did not prescribe color contact lenses for tjkid," they can't sell you colored contacts. It's against the law.

Like Superschwin said, tell your doctor politely that you would really prefer colored contact lenses. If he refuses to give you the prescription, go to someone else.

If your prescription is for clear lenses, then there's really no legal way to get color contact lenses. If you think about it, it makes sense. If you went to a pharmacy with a prescription for one thing, and the pharmacist gives you something else when you ask for it, why bother with the prescription? Do you see what I'm saying?

Sure, I see what you're saying Trixie. Your local neighborhood pharmacist should fill your prescription as is. No substitution unless your doctor says it's okay.

I don't see why someone just doesn't ask the eye doctor for a prescription for colored contacts if that's what they want. If you want colored contacts, then your eye doctor should give you a prescription for colored contacts.

I agree. If your eye doctor can't give you a good reason for not allowing you to wear color contact lenses, then you need to find someone who can.

Default I agree!

You pay the eye doctor, not the other way around, he isn't performing an act of charity, you asked for a prescription for colored contacts, if he won't provide it, go to someone else ( you don't stay with the bank that keeps messing up your checking account, right, or the mechanic that can't/won't fix your car?)

I find it interesting that your eye doctor described Color Contact Lenses as being made of "plastic." I suppose that's technically true, but not very technical.

If I were you, I'd tell my eye doctor (politely) that I want to try color contact lenses, and I think I should be the judge of how comfortable they are. Then I'd tell him that if he won't let me try some color contact lens samples, then I'll have to find someone else who will. There are lots of eye doctors out there.

Let us know what happens, okay?

That is, you need to find someone who can either fit you with color contacts or someone who can tell you why you can't wear color contacts.
