Default CL-Tinters being discontinued!!

Hi folks,

I was about to try out the light blue version from contactlenses.co.uk (yes, I know lens.com is a sponsor, but they don't carry the brand) and I was told that Coopervision is discontinuing the line. I found another company in the UK that sells them and I'm hoping I can get the lenses there.

So ... anyone out there that wants them, order now!

Well, I live in the States, and I've never heard of CL-Tinters. Are they available in the US?

Anyway, I hope you come back and tell us how you like your contacts when you get them. Pictures would be nice, too. Just . . . you better order from Lens.com next time!

If lens.com offers 'em - I will!
I get planos, so it's so nice to just ORDER something as opposed to waiting for the doc to approve ...

That's true, Ynot. Lens.com does not sell CL Tinters at this time. As far as I know they don't have any plans to do so in the foreseeable future.

Don't you have to get a prescription for plano lenses, too? There's no power in plano lenses, but you still have to know the base curve and diameter, right?

Yep, I know those already -- but I don't have to go to the eye doc every time I want to place an order when I buy overseas

That's a good thing.
At Lens.com, they're not supposed to sell you contact lenses unless they see a prescription from your doctor. You don't need to see your doctor every time you place an order, but you do have to renew your prescription each year. It's a way of making sure they sell you the right lenses.

I get planos - I don't need anything. I have a slight astigmatism, but I'd rather wear glasses than torics.

I hear you PB. Even though this is a contact lens site, I still have to say that I prefer to wear glasses.

I'm not picking on you, PB10016, but I just wonder why so many people in this forum put the article "a" or "an" in front of "astigmatism." It's like saying "Suzi's really having a hard time concentrating in school. I hope she doesn't have an ADHD." or "I shouldn't have eaten that triple cheeseburger. I've got a heartburn like you wouldn't believe."

So many people say it that way that I'm beginning to think I may have it wrong.

To get back to your actual comment. You feel that your astigmatism isn't severe enough to justify the process of getting fitted for contact lenses, is that right?

Yes, I've heard that torics are rather uncomfortable and I can really function well enough either with nothing or with a very light pair of prescription glasses

If it were me, personally I would not get the toric lenses if I could read and function without them. It's an extra step I just don't need. I never got the impression that toric lenses were "rather uncomfortable" but they are unique in that they have one part that's a little thicker so it stays at the bottom, and that might feel kinda weird at first, but I never heard anyone say that they were especially uncomfortable.

So you don't need a doctor's approval for plano lenses? You still need a prescription though, don't you? How else would you know your base curve and diameter?

I had to go to a doctor for the initial exam - I tried some and he checked to see if they fit properly. If I order lenses from anywhere in the US, I have to send them the doctor's phone and fax for confirmation.

If I order overseas, I don't need a prescription or a doctor's confirmation.

Oh, interesting. So you're in the US, right? If you order contacts from say, France, you don't need a prescription or anything, you can just order the lenses?

That's right. I ordered the Tinters from a UK store - no prescription needed. Of course planos are easy

OK, thanks for clarifying. Doesn't it make you nervous, though, that other places require some kind of proof that you've seen a doctor and got professionally fitted, and this UK store doesn't? Even plano lenses need to be fitted for base curve, don't they?

I got the base curve and diameter from the initial exam. I order planos with the same base curve from the UK stores. Sometimes the diameter is a little smaller (14 or 14.2).

When I ordered from another UK store, I was told that they were NOT being discontinued.

What was not being discontinued?

Sorry. Like many Internet users, I've got a short attention span.

Fortunately, my attention span is a bit longer.

I scrolled up until I found the latest mention of a contact lens by its brand name and that was CL Tinters in post #4. Perhaps that is the brand name of the lens that PB10016 contends is not being discontinued.
