Unhappy New Opacity Soloticas

Has anybody else noticed that the soloticas have a new, dull opacity now? I purchased Solotica Mels about a year ago and I purchased a new pair just last week. They are totally duller and not as great, in my opinion. If you are looking to buy Soloticas, be forewarned that many of the pictures on this forum and the internet in general are of the old soloticas. The new ones do not change your eye color that much. Anyone know where I can get the old soloticas or where we can tell the manufacturer to get back to what they were doing? They totally ruined a good thing.

Hi Stukaza.

I'm afraid I don't know very much about Solotica Mels since Lens.com does not sell them. Several people have posted here on Lens 101 that they are beautiful lenses, but you are the first to post that they don't look as nice as they used to. Maybe others will chime in and agree with you.

What do you mean "dull"? Do you mean the color is not as bright, or not a shiny?

I have to agree on this. about 1 year and a half ago, the Solotica Topazio was a beautiful, striking, light colour. I ordered a new one about a month ago and they are evidently darker (though the aqua tint has become more intense) than the previous incarnation!!! I am a little disappointed to be honest...

What color are the "Topazio" lenses? Maybe Lens.com has something that's more striking.

I haven't been in here for ages! But they are a just a darker aqua as opposed to their former light aqua. It's really disappointing. Why would lens.com have anything more different though? I got my soloticas from lentesdecontato brazil.

Lens.com does not sell Soloticas. So anything they have there would be different, right?
I don't see what the big deal is about Solotica contact lenses. Yeah they're beautiful lenses, but they're expensive and they come from Brazil. Unless you live in South America, you will wait a long time to get them, and you'll have to pay extra for them to come through customs or something, don't you? Aren't there taxes and tariffs involved as well?

I went to that website you posted, and it's in Portuguese, and I didn't see any links that would translate it for me.

I don't mean to bad-mouth Solotica lenses. Like I said, they're beautiful. I just don't understand why so many people on Lens 101 are talking about them.

Bizarre maybe that poster was a bot of sorts. The unique thing about the Soloticas is that they have an opaque dot matrix pattern as opposed to the ones with a sunburst-like pattern. The Solotica pattern gives a more even, less in-your-face fake look. I got mine only two weeks after ordering from lentesdecontato, but you have to be able to bluff your way through all the portuguese! I know I did, and it worked. You get it there for cheaper as well than anywhere else.

What was that about a "bot of sorts"?

You said "you get it there for cheaper." Cheaper than what? Other Brazilian contact lens companies?

your eye doctor told you what wasn't the problem, but did they offer any theories as to what was the problem?

well of course but i'm wondering about others comfort expierience in the solotica NC annual lens. i believe my inital problem with them was not taking them out when they became uncomfortable. i'm stubborn and i've worn contacts so long i thought it would be fine with rewetting drops but it wasn't. Major irritation! 4-5 hours in and im done.

That sounds like a major bummer, Jehf. All that money spent on those lenses and you had to take them out after less than half a day. You have my sympathy.

Hmm, I guess those Solotica lenses aren't so great after all.

Are you going to try another pair of Solotica NC lenses, or are you going to try something different? If you want a change, check out the selection at Lens.com.

Maybe they were made of a material that you're reacting to. Has you doctor recommended a different brand of lenses?

That's right. Check out all the options for Color Contact Lenses there: http://www.lens.com/contact-lenses/department95.asp

Does anyone know of any American-made lenses that compare to Solotica contact lenses, for those of us who don't want to wait for our contacts to be shipped from overseas?

I found out that Solotica lenses are made of something called "Hioxifilcon B." I couldn't find a familiar brand that was made of that same material.

How about a similar brand that's made of a different material?

Perhaps because I wore hard contacts for several years, I can wear my solotica mels for an average of 12 hours a day. I use rewetting drops after about 6 hours. I also got a pair of clear solitica hidroblu lenses with a higher water content (49%) that I can wear all day comfortably without using drops.

That's good, Fireman; and your doctor says your eyes are healthy and everything?

My optometrist worked with me to find the best lens for me. He was previously unaware of the whole line of lenses made in Brazil. Because of the difficulty I seeing the visibility tint on clear lenses and the problems I have putting them in, he had prescribed Optix Night and Day monthly lenses. When I came across Soloticas and other Brazilian contacts companies, a lot more choices were made available that answered my needs. Because the Soloticas are easy for me to see and handle, I no longer wear the Optix Night and Day while I sleep. I lived in Brazil several years ago. I am not apprehensive of the quality of products made there as some members seem to be. The last time, I had a pair of Durasoft3s they had to be MTO in Puerto Rico. It took a couple months to get the right prescription at that time. I ordered from both paranalentes and WRlens with no problems whatsoever.

I am experiencing the same thing with Solitica Natural Colors Quartzo. I love the look but they don't feel good after a few hours so they're officially getting a break.

Ugh! I bought the Mels too and was also dissapointed! Apparently they got too many complaints on how their lenses were too thick and uncomfortable so they dulled down the opacity to make it a more comfortable lens. (So I've read anyways.) Unfortunately I don't think you can get the original opacity from any location anymore.

Yes, he was great for that. He wanted people to think he was scatterbrained so they would let down their guard and make a mistake.

I often use the same technique myself. You my just think I'm a few French Fries short of a Happy Meal, but I know what I'm doing.
