I read if your astigmatism isn't bad, you can wear regular contacts temporarily. Colored contacts really set off a costume, so is it safe to get "regular" contacts just for halloween? This is my perscription (what does it mean anyway?): o.d. +1.25 -0.75x20 8.6 o.s. +1.00 8.4
thanks in advance! |

Meanwhile, let's look at your prescription. If I don't explain it very well, look around Lens 101 to see if anyone else does better. Here goes. If you have astigmatism (Never say "an astigmatism." The Lens Nazi will say "No lenses for you!") your prescription comes in three parts: base curve, diameter and power. If you don't have astigmatism, you just have the power measurement. Your power is +1.25 in your right eye. (OD means "right eye" and OS means "left eye.") It's +1 in your left eye. That's not a very strong power so you shouldn't have trouble finding contact lenses for it. I'm not really sure what that "-0.75x20" means. I don't know why there's two numbers and an x. Are you sure that's a contact lens prescription? Finally, the 8.6 and 8.4 look like the diameter of the contact lenses that you need. |

If your eye doctor will give you a prescription for regular contact lenses for Halloween then go for it. I would steer away from any company that doesn't say "show me the prescription" when you order from them, though.
