Hello all. I am a rather new member here on Lens 101 and through brief conversation in another thread, I promised I would review my Solotica Hidrocharme Ice once I received them. So here it goes.
Brand: Solotica
Type: Hidrocharme
Color: Ice
Eye Color: Dark Brown (not black)
I ordered my pair from LensMarketplace.com. After reading some problems with WrLenses.com, I decided to pay the slightly extra money and go with LensMarketplace.com. I ordered them with rush delivery and no vision correction. The total was roughly $140. I ordered them on Friday and received them the next Friday. One week exactly to get to my house in Brooklyn, NY, USA. I un-boxed and checked if they were both the correct color etc... They were correct but one lens was folded and stuck to the wall of the container. It was a little tough to hydrate the lens and get it to come loose, but after some trouble I got them both out and in my case for hydration.
Seven hours later I tried them on. Now, I must say, they are extremely natural looking. Color
contacts always kind of went well on my eyes, but even wit Freshlooks, people could tell they were fake. My entire goal here is to achieve a light eye experience, with others thinking it is my natural eye color. Solotica definitely seems like the brand to do that. But unfortunately, the Ice color will not. Now, if gives my eyes a light appeal, but it is still dark in a sense. And the "Ice" color, is actually no color at all on me. It looks like my eyes are grey. Not a hint of blue or anything--just grey. So in other words, the color is boring. Nevertheless, despite what people say about the limbal ring, I am extremely happy with that feature. It makes the contacts look real natural due to it.
Now, I want to talk about comfort. When I first put them on, I felt like I was wearing no contacts. Quickly afterwards, they seemed dry. But this is definitely do to the fact that they were brand new I think. After wearing them the next day (I let them hydrate over night after trying them on) they bothered me pretty quickly. But then I put drops in and closed my eyes for a bit, they were suddenly fine. I put them in the day after that and it was like nothing was in my eye. Extremely comfortable with no sign of strain. I have to admit though, I was worried because after reading mixed reviews about the comfort, it seemed that reviews such as Troy's were correct. My eyes felt tired and dry. I don't know if contacts 'break in' but I can literally wear them forever now.
Through and through I am both happy and disappointed. I am happy that through my extensive research and experience, I have found a brand that looks incredibly natural on me. But I am definitely disappointed in the color. I am not going to give up my search for a light eye that stands out and is natural looking, which is why I am going to purchase another pair soon. I am leaning towards the Topazio and Azul. I was looking at the Quartzo as well, but I have read from a lot of Quartzo owners, that the color is extremely unnatural and the pupil hole isn't as feathered giving it a real fake appearance. The Azul seems lighter in person from the videos I see and they seem very vibrant--which is what I want. The Topazio seems good too and it seems to have the colors I want (A light bluish green), I just hope the pupil hole is feathered because that is definitely what makes the Ices so natural looking.
I hope my review helps some of you purchasers out there and I will report my experience with some new colors as soon as possible. If anyone is interested, here is the look/color I am going for the most. Don't laugh at me because of this 80s star, because I just like his eye color, lol.
