Default Colored contacts with unusual parameters (BC, diameter)

Sorry for the long post, but I wanted to include as much background as possible to get help with this. Okay so here's the deal. My question has a few parts to it. I want to wear a certain kind of colored contact lens (prescription), and I ordered a sample pack online (Air Optix) which wasn't quite my prescription parameters: all Air Optix come with a base curve of 8.6 and a diameter of, I believe, 14.5 or something like that. Problem is, my BC is 8.4 and my diameter is only 13.7.

I really like the look of them but the problem is, especially closer up, the iris hole is somewhat off center, like to the side and a bit down. It's not that noticeable from farther away or in darker lighting, but it does get kind of annoying and makes an otherwise good contact look kinda fake in the wrong conditions. Also, since it's off a bit, my vision on the periphery can get a bit blurry (other than that, there's no physical discomfort or anything). I've heard of people with lower BC's still going with 8.6 and being largely okay with it. I'm not sure if the main issue is that or the diameter.

I then looked up contacts with those specific parameters, and I recall finding another company that did 8.4 base curves or had a smaller diameter. Only problem here is, they didn't have the color I want; they only had like blues and greens. I don't think those colors really suit me (even if my dad has blue eyes), since I have a more olivey/brunet skin tone, medium to dark brown eyes, and very dark brown hair/sorta Mediterranean features... plus I want the change to be subtle, not something my friends will go like, "dude wtf you got colored contacts lol". What I really want (and what I got in my sample Air Optix pack) is a honey kind of color, or something in that range. My maternal grandfather, who otherwise looked very much like me, naturally had these kind of golden/honey colored eyes that made for a unique, striking, and kinda sexy look when younger, as odd as that may be to say haha. And from the Air Optix I did try, I must say it works very well with my other features, and looks almost perfect. Only problem is the being sorta off center thing.

So, my question is: does anyone know of a brand that does contacts in the kind of golden/honey/light-brown-yellow range with different kinds of measurements/parameters? Was searching around and couldn't find any. Or do I need to go to one of those that actually custom makes them for you, which costs a lot more and takes more time? I figured a forum all about contacts would be the best place to ask. Thanks!

Hi DT. This is kind of a dead forum, so I doubt you'll get much response, unfortunately. The closest thing I know of for your parameters is Lunare Tri-Kolor, with a base curve of 8.4.

You might also want to look into Magic Top lenses. Their default base curve is 8.5 and you can also have them custom make them in a base curve of 8.2.

Hope you find something that works for you!

Thanks, I'll look into those. I didn't realize the forum was kind of dead, but oh well.

Also, now that I think about it, I'm not sure Air Optix Colors are the most realistic looking contacts. Although new people I met didn't say anything, of course, and some of the guy friends I hung out with didn't either (maybe because it was late at night in dark settings and we were drinking), but a good girl friend of mine noticed them when she saw them in the right light, like when sitting in the passenger seat of the car with the light on, and said they were "kinda weird" and that she preferred my natural eyes better (even though the difference in color isn't that drastic).

I guess come to think of it, they have this quality to them that just doesn't seem like regular eyes. It's not the shade or color itself but like the details. Real eyes have more intricacies and often reflect more light in subtle ways, but don't look as "bright" if you know what I mean. At the same time, the contacts have a "flat" colored kind of impression, like too uniform and solidly colored; not sure how to describe it well. I guess a lot of them are like that.

Maybe these are just cheaper, and that's why the quality looks more fake. In some settings, they look okay, and in others light doesn't bounce off them the way it would for real eyes, which I think is why my friend said what she did. So now I'm second-guessing my purchase, haha.

I'm guessing more realistic looking ones would cost a lot more? Are there any brands that specialize in that? I feel like Air Optix are among the more common colored lenses, almost like a "starter" for people new to it.

The most realistic looking brand I've had personal experience with is Solotica. Their base curve isn't perfect for you, but if the Air Optix fit you well enough, the Soloticas should as well. This brand is also great in terms of comfort (for me at least), appearance and overall quality. They're annual lenses, which have somewhat fallen out of favour, but if you take really good care of them, they'll actually last even longer. I wore a pair I'd had for 1.5 years to my annual eye examination, and the doc said they are in perfect condition.

BTW, for a more lively forum specific to cosmetic contact lenses (although lately, it too has seen a decline in posts), you might want to look into http://lensaholics.proboards.com. The only catch is, you need to request membership, and I've heard it sometimes takes a long time for approval because the moderators don't check new requests very often. But once you get in, you'll find a wealth of information and real-life photos that can help with your decision making.
