Default Solotica vs Europa - which is more realistic?

I'm looking for advice on colored contact lenses. Can anyone tell me which is a more realistic-looking contact lens - Solotica or Europa? Maybe there's another brand that you think is even better. Please let me know.

Thanks, trueblue.
Do you know of a site where I can get a look at these contacts without registering?

Honestly, even if you find some pictures on the websites that sell these lenses, they are usually photoshoped.

Thanks for your response, Karentraven. I looked at the slide show from YouTube, but my knowledge of Spanish is moy peqito, (And my spelling is probably worse).

The contacts looked pretty good, but I have to admit I was distracted by the gobs of mascara.

Well I would be able to help you.
Can you tell me wich color base eye you have and the skin tone too?
Europa look quite fake actually in short distance but hidrocharme and some natural colors from solotica are the best natural lens of the market!

Default Solotica

I never tried Europa, but Soloticas are great. Other than Soloticas I also like Magic Tops. Both brands are Brazilian, and VERY realistic looking with great colors. Actually, you should check out my blog http://bestcolorcontacts.blogspot.com/ I review there with greater detail.

So . . . it's been almost two weeks. Any sign of those Hydrochrome contacts yet?

Default Looking Good in Solotica

Greetings, karol.beck. Welcome to Lens 101. Thank you for posting those pictures. You look beautiful in those Topazio contacts. The picture of the green ones got a little close, though. Not only can I see the green dots that make up the color, but I can see the photographer's reflection in them. That's an interesting shot and I'm sure that there isn't another one like in on Lens 101.

Default Ready For Your Close Up

One nice thing about the extreme closeup is that you can see that karol.beck's eyes are not at all bloodshot or watery, so it seems that the contacts are comfortable.

Talking in my experience with soloticas...

True! Last March I ordered pair from vaillure.com, and they didn't come in till May! (TWO MONTHS?!) Though they didn't charge me for shipping because I had to wait so long, and they sent it in next day shipping, which was quite nice.

But I do have to say, they were worth it! I absolutely love my solotica nc in honey (mel). People always complement my eyes (haha, if they only knew) because they are so natural looking. They are quite comfortable too, and you don't see giant blobs every time you look in a different direction like you do with circle lenses and freshlook colorblends.

Wow, thanks for the extreme close ups there, kmoanig. Those contacts look really nice, but do you think we can get some pictures of your whole face so we can see the lenses in a more natural environment? I don't think most people are going to be looking at your eye that closely in day-to-day life. You want to get people's attention in casual conversations, right?

Nice pictures kmoanig. You're very pretty. Those contacts are subtle. They don't change your eye color very much. Those are the Soloticas, right? I like the dark limbal ring around the edge.

Wow! Those are some super close up pictures. The contacts look nice, even that close. I think I have to agree with Bondjamesbond that they look better when we can see your face rather than just one eye.

Default Both Eyes, Please?

Once again I have to say that I like those pictures you posted, kmoanig. Just one teensy weensy little thing. Do you think you could post a picture where we can see both eyes? Your hair looks cute falling across your eyes, but I'd like to get a good look at your natural eyes and compare them to the contacts. Would that be all right?

Have you posted and self-portraits here in Lens 101, loveme? I'm glad you like your Solotica Mels. I've heard a lot of good things about them here. About the only downside I've found is that they're kind of expensive.

I've been hearing a lot about Solotica lenses on this site in the last week or so. Funny thing is, Soloticas are not available in the United States. Since Lens.com is an American company, you won't find Solotica lenses being sold there. They're beautiful contact lenses, but they're not very widely distributed. They're still the talk of Lens 101, though.

They're expensive, and as discussed in another thread, not available in the United States, so it's going to be hard to find a price for them in dollars.

Ice-mint and Cristal are the same thing. The actual name is Solotica Natural Colors Cristal Ice-mint. When you get the bottle from Solotica it will only say Cristal not Ice-mint. I was told by the company I purchased them from that Ice-mint was the pre-production name. Cristal is the new name and some sites still call them Cristal Ice-mint to eliminate confusion.

Suh-weet, loveme. I'm so glad you like the forum. I do too. It took a while for this thing to take off, but now I see new posts every day from a whole bunch of people. Tell your friends to get a screen name and join us!
Maybe you can assign them names yourself. "Derek, you are going to be known as 'nakedmolerat.' Never mind why."

I absolutely love how topazio looks on your eyes. What is the natural color of your eyes, dark?

Thanks!

oh yes! Now the question is what color are her eyes?)))
Mine are brown, and here is what I made them look with Natural Touch Baby Blue... Since those have been discontinued, want to find something similar...

Hey, it looks like you fit right in to this Thread With the Pretty Girls. I love those Baby Blue lenses on you. How much longer are they going to last before you have to replace them and find a new brand?

Thanks for the compliment! Well, i just opened a new pair about a week ago, but since it was the last one I had, now I started worrying that in case they tear, or I lose them or something else happens I don't have any replacement left. Other than that they are supposed to last for around a year...

Let me first say that I agree with Naturallygood in that the blue/grey lenses look really good on you. They look nice with your long brown hair.

You say you're worried about something happening to your lenses, since you only have the one pair. Maybe you should ask your eye doctor about selling you a spare pair at a reduced rate. It couldn't hurt.

One more thing. When you said "Now the question is what color are her eyes?" you meant karol.beck, right?

Yes, I meant Karol Beck, since I really like how the lenses look on her, so wanted to find out what her natural color is.
My problem is that the blue lenses I used to have (Natural Touch - Baby Blue) have been discontinued, which means no store or doctor has them any more. That is the reason why I am looking for a replacement.

Hi nelka. Your question about the fate of Natural Touch made me search this forum for something I thought I'd read. I found it here: http://www.lens101.com/natural-touch-opaque/116719-i-just-found-out-natural-touch-being-discontinued.html

HealingHands wrote to the people at CooperVision, makers of Natural Touch contact lenses, and they said that Natural Touch has not been discontinued, and yet the rumor persists. Was that denial just a PR stunt for Coopervision, or perhaps someone had some false information? I don't know. Evidently someone's got it wrong. I just know that Lens 101 has a few people asking why Natural Touch has been discontinued, and a rep form Coopervision saying they haven't been.

Perhaps you can contact this rep--her name is Jennifer L Knab--at Coopervision and ask her what the story is.

oh thanks!
Whether those have been discontinued or no the fact is that no major contact lens stores (1800contacts, lens.com, coastal contacts, etc) don't have them any more. What kind of a marketing trick that is if thanks to it, they lost quite a few devoted clients like me, who went for replacements. Anyway, I don't really want to go into more detail as to why the brand has disappeared from the market, as long as it's not there - it's not there:-)

I guess you're right, nelka. Which lenses do you wear now? How close are they to the Natural Touch contact lenses?

to everyone, beware, i repeat, beware of wrlens.com. These ppl are so unprofessional, my dog could run their business better than them!!! They are rude, unprofessional, vulgar and try to bully you around. If you purchase lenses from them and receive a defective lens, they try to make out as though it's your fault. And yes, they request of you to try the defective lens on before replacing it, saying it's in their policy!!!! Who in their right mind would do this??? If you try resolve things with them, they get very nasty as though you've wronged them or try to act as though they do not comprehend things when u call!!! Then they claim to ensure defect-free lenses before shipping them out to you! Well, who's inspecting them, a blind dog!!!???? I don't know who wrlens.com think they are, i say run!!!!!! Run fast and do business elsewhere!!!!!

How many times are you going to post the same thing? Again, I'm sorry that happened to you, but every time I see the same exact post I have a little less sympathy.

You wanna talk about how many times I post my comments here, but how many times do you have to reply??? Obviously, my comments must be of some importance to you for you to be sooooo concerned. Oh, and by the way, I never recall asking for your sympathy. If it doesn't apply to you, just get off the thread. DUH!

Why don't YOU quit hogging the forum? Most people just post their question or rant once and leave it at that. What makes you so special?

That's funny. I checked Lens.com since it's only a click away and didn't find Natural Touch listed at all, but I did find a whole bunch of lenses with the word "DISCONTINUED" next to the name. I wonder why they're doing things differently for different lenses?

Hi dragongirl - to answer your question, for whatever reason, earlier this year, CIBA and CooperVision, and possibly other manufacturers, discontinued ALL of their vial lenses (annual replacements). I learned about this only after I'd waited...and waited...4 long months for lenses ordered through my eye doctor's office. Their distributor kept telling them they were "backordered". I've heard it had something to do with the fact that they were made offshore (Puerto Rico I think) and that the FDA had begun making them jump through some significant hoops, and it seems they just decided it's not worth the hassle. This, of course, left a number of us loyal, long-time satisfied customers out in the cold with almost no options. There just aren't that many colored contact lenses out there anymore, especially the opaque kind that can change the color of dark eyes. It's particularly bad for those of us who need a toric lens for astigmatism and prefer to wear colored contacts. The ONLY colored toric lens I'm aware of is FreshLook, and even they don't come in a very wide range of prescriptions. Besides that, many of us with darker eyes find that the FreshLook lenses don't offer much of a color change. So uh...sorry...no, CIBA, this is NOT an acceptable alternative to the Durasoft 3 Color Torics I'd been wearing happily for years, and the FreshLook Toric doesn't come in my strength anyhow.

The Solotica's that people have been speaking so highly of appear to be a very good alternative in terms of dramatic yet natural looking color change. The YouTube videos are very convincing! And thanks so much to those of you who posted pics on here. I'm really interested in giving them a try, but my prescription was written for FreshLooks (ugh!) and the base curve and diameter for FreshLooks are different than for the Solotica. So I need to see if the doc can convert the prescription to match the Solotica parameters. If not, I'm gonna be seriously heartbroken! I would be curious to hear if anyone on here has gone to Soloticas after wearing Durasoft 3 Colors and how you think they compare.

What you've heard sounds reasonable, but is it true? Can you say for a fact that you waited four months for your Vial Contact Lenses because of factories in Puerto Rico and FDA hoops?
I'm not saying that you're wrong, but I'd like to see some facts to prove you're right, you know what I mean?

I agree. 99% of the people who post here can back up what they say, so I'm inclined to believe that what Shamrocker said is true.

Well, that's what I was told at my eye doctor's office. They ordered the lenses (custom order due to my Rx) in February, and each time they called CIBA to check on why it was taking so long, they were told they were "back-ordered". Finally, in late June, they told the doctor's office, "Oh yeah, those lenses you ordered 4 months ago? We're never going to be able to provide them" and proceeded to blame the FDA for making it unreasonably complicated for them to continue manufacturing the vial lenses. For what it's worth, I've read similar stories from a handful of other people and seen a few articles online about it:
http://www.inpharm.com/news/151865/novartis-gets-fda-warning-letter-puerto-rico-plant
http://www.pharmalot.com/2011/03/fda-to-novartis-ciba-vision-needs-an-eye-exam/

I have no way of independently verifying the authenticity of this claim, but I did find the "warning letter" issued to CIBA Vision Puerto Rico, Inc. by the FDA last December, citing an assortment of alleged violations. It's filled with a bunch of bureaucratic balderdash, but if you're interested, you can read it here: http://www.fda.gov/ICECI/EnforcementActions/WarningLetters/ucm246387.htm. This seems to lend some credence to the "word on the street", but who knows what the real deal is.

I guess when Bootz tried to look up the link you posted there was a problem with it. I just checked it out myself and the http://www.fda.gov/ICECI/EnforcementActions/WarningLetters/ucm246387.htm URL is back up.

What makes you think that Solotica lenses are the most natural? I'm not saying I don't believe you, I just want to know what made you decide that Solotica is the brand you want to buy. Were they a recommendation by a friend? Did you compare brands on line? Maybe others can benefit from you research methods.

I ordered mine Soloticas from wrlens.com. The shipping took a while and my second pair was defective. It took another two months to receive my replacements. Despite of the inconvenience of foreign manufactured lenses, I stand loyally by Soloticas. I have some sample pix of me wearing the hydrocharme ice & ocres. Let me know if you'd like to see em.

*Shipping varies from one place to another. A girl from the UK got hers within a week. I'm in the US and waited over a month to receive them.

Well I heard so much about solonica and I didn't do a research about them, but that is the reason I asked if anybody knows of any contact lenses that look natural?? My eyes are brown and I always used illusions soft blue.

Wow. Those must be really awesome contacts to be worth all that bother. If I had to wait a long time and still wonder if the right ones will appear on my doorstep to get lenses that are a 10, I think I'd settle for 9 or 8 lenses if they got to me in a few days and they were actually the right ones.

To me, they are awesome! Luckily, I don't depend on them for vision; purely fun. Now, if I was relying on them for sight or a special event, I wouldnt have been so forgiving and patient with wrlens.

My Solotica alternatives are Adore bi tone gray. They're cheaper only because they don't last a whole year but the lens striations and color are the most natural to me. I have a few other pairs on my forum just for fun. Hope thus helps with your decision

Where do those Adore contact lenses come from? Are they an American company?

According to lensmarketplace.com, they're made in Italy. I got mine from another site which only took a week to receive. Super speedy service.

Forgive me if you've already answered this question, Shakibabe88, but do you live in the United States? I'm curious to know where they shipped these lenses to from Italy in a week.

Clarification: I live in the states but the site I purchased them from was koreabigeyes.com. I forgot to Check where they were located but shipping was a synch. The lenses themselves are manufactured in Italy but plenty of sites carry them.
