Hi.
I was just looking at some pictures of people wearing a color contact lens called Colormax. The bright blue color was striking, but I could easily tell that the people wearing them had brown eyes because it showed through the huge pupil hole. I've seen a lot of pictures of people wearing color contact lenses, and the color didn't really show through the pupil window unless it was a tight closeup of one eye. Not many people look that closely. The Colormax contacts were different though. The pictures I saw weren't close up. One picture was intended to show the contacts as part of that person's costume, and even at that distance I could still easily see the brown color. Even on their website you can see the color showing through in the drawings that show the different color options. Does anybody out there own a pair of Colormax contact lenses and can tell me about the pupil opening? |

I have a pair of colormax and I wouldn't recommend them.
The pupil hole is quite large and the pattern is really unnatural looking. Mine are gray and there is a black ring around. Also there are black stripes on the lens. Overall very fake looking. My suggestion - either custom made or solotica. |

Thanks a lot, True Blue. I'm glad you feel the same way about the Colormax contacts. I like the black limbal ring, though. It kind of has a way of making the color jump out at you.
Have you ever tried custom made contacts? Are they a lot more expensive that contacts you can buy on line? |

I have a pair of blue custom contacts from 9mmSFX.
They look very natural. You have to be carefull how you handle them though. You don't want to tear it like I did one of mine( I had long fingernails). I paid$155 per lens + $52 shipping to Canada. It's hard to find those " perfect " lenses.I was told that my eyes glow like neon lights under some lights in dark( with cuctom lenses on).I am looking for a commercial brand now, one I can wear at night.Sometimes I just feel like giving up... but I don't like my green-hazel eyes very much. Thanks for the picture, trueblue. That contact lens color looks really nice on you. You're probably a little shy to post a picture of your face to give us the "big picture," but that's okay. The color looks great and the pupil hole is just right.
I can see why you're very cautious about handling these. At almost $400 a pair, I wouldn't take any chances either. Have a good one! |

I am looking for colored contacts that have a small pupil hole. I am now wearing FreshLook lenses, but the pupil hole is too big and my brown iris shows through. The result is a very fake look. Does anyone know of any companies that make small pupil whole colored contacts??
Thanks |

FXeyes will make you custom contacts for 450 but they will make the pupil size small!!! (Only drawback is that these contact are only good for daylight cause the pupil hole is small and your pupil is naturally small in light). I think at night time they will blur your vision. I will let you know when I order them soon! I have caca-colored eyes and I want me some gray-blue eyes! But they do look sooooo natual...like way better than that surgery at newcoloriris.com |

Ok. the companies develop the lens with wide pupil to avoid an unnatural look.
Your natural pupil tends to expand, so in non good light ambience, so if you wear custom lens with small pupil, you'll see blury and un-focus on the sides. Also, when you wear a small pupil lens, you'll ended looking like an alien, doesn't matter how natural they are, as the moisted lens tend to move all the time and spin in your eye, so the "pupil" would never be centered. Result. You will look like any of those monsters, psycho in the movies. Google for handmade painted contact lenses, Prosthetic soft contact lens, Theatrical Contact Lenses etc or have a look in this website: http://www.customcontacts.com/contacts/cosmetic-lenses.html Expensive though!. |

I just saw a buncha Colormax pics on amazon, it actually looks nice. I perform on stage sometimes so this looks like a great lens. They are $75 and Amazon has them for half of that. Any one order Colormax from Amazon before? It seems to look great in pictures and night time. Any thoughts?

The website that Batabidd provided for custom color contacts looks great! Those are beautiful and I truly can not tell that those are contact lenses. They also will create lenses in very natural shades of brown to dark brown for those of us that have naturally light eyes but love the look of dark brown. Yes we exist lol.
I have blue eyes and desperately want a deep brown shade but they always make that pupil hole too large so you see the brown and then a ring of blue iris and then the pupil. Its kind of pretty but people can tell they are obviously contact lenses. The only draw back I see to that custom contact design website is you have to actually go to their office to have them made and they only have two locations. New York City and Beverly Hills. It says on their site that they wont allow your own eye doctor to transfer records. It has to entirely be done through them because of the intricate nature of the design. I think I will look into a consultation at their NYC office however. Also these custom contacts are expensive but it says they will last up to 2 years with proper care and handling. |

Exactly. Most people dont want to spend the money on the contacts themselves on top of travel expenses. Im in New Hampshire so yeah I could spend the money and take a train to NYC and get a motel room but that ends up being so much money, plus the time and effort. I dont understand why they just cant take the measurements from your eye doctor and you send them a photo of the color you want and that should be the end of it.
Anyway, I was looking at some other custom contact websites and some do not expect you to go to the office. Im not sure why these people are so picky about it. Unless they have had problems in the past with people refusing to pay once the work was completed etc.. |

I can see that on an episode of Frasier. "Gasp! Frasier you didn't! You did, you scoundrel! You went to New York to buy custom contact lenses!" |

hahahah. Totally. And it mentions on the website that they do movies and theatrical contact lenses for actors. So Im certain part of it is a "prestige" appeal.
Honestly I would care about two things. A. That they dont cause me to go blind. B. They look nice. I probably would never even tell people they were contacts and just try to pass them off as my natural eye color. |
