Default Can You Create Your Own Color?

I was just wondering if colors can be custom made or do you have to use the colors available? Is there some way a manufacturer can mix colors for you so you can have your own special color?

Haven't heard of anything yet but don't think it would be cost effective.

Hi Skatts.

I found a site that sells custom made contact lenses. If you're looking for contact lenses that look natural and not like cat or zombie or "alien vampyre" eyes, you're looking at laying out--are you ready? Custom contact lenses that are just your shade of blue or green or gray will set you back about . . .

$400

Per lens.

Are you still with me?

My first car didn't cost $400.

I guess "off the shelf" contact lenses are the way to go. Custom contact lenses might be cool and look great, but I'm not willing to spend $800 on a pair of contact lenses that might look a little better than contacts I can just buy on line or from my eye doctor. Knowing me, if I bought customized contact lenses I'd drop one after wearing them twice and then the dog would eat it.

Hi,

I know FXEYES and 9MMSFX. They are customized lenses.
Prices are staggering, but some lenses are amazing (hope so !).
And it's your own choice ...
You can see videos on Youtube.

Have you got a link to some of those YouTube videos, SkyIsJade? I know if I just went there and did a search I'd get distracted and be there for hours.

Thanks for the links. I went to the FX Eyes site and they have a lot of interesting colors like "Angel" "Dream," and "Courteney," but I almost fainted when I saw the prices. $450.00 per pair! I don't know about my friends here a Lens 101, but there's no way I'd spend that much on contact lenses. Sure they're hand-painted and all but come on, almost $500 for one pair of contact lenses?

Illusions are a popular brand of vial contact lenses. You can get them at Lens.com for about $120.00 a pair.

Yeah but still, $450 a pair? Even the most expensive Calvin Klein designer eyeglasses are about $300 a pair. How do you justify paying $450 for a pair of contact lenses, custom made or not?

Calm down!!

Take it easy on the exclamation points!!

Maybe I should have said "How can they justify charging so much?"

I guess if people are willing to pay that much, then everybody's happy, right? Even if they can buy the Illusions contact lenses mentioned by Horseluvr in their "own measurements, own power, they are yearly" for a fraction of the cost.

It seems to me that a lot of the posts on this site are by people who are looking for a way to see clearly with contact lenses and maybe just look better with color contact lenses, and save money in doing so. If you look at the red "lens.com" ad at the top of this page, it asked the question "Why Pay More For Contact Lenses?"

Some people aren't so concerned with paying less for contact lenses. They want a specific look and if they have to pay a little more to achieve that look, then so be it.

I saw a commercial on TV that showed a machine that adds three or four different colors of paint to a can of white for a customized color blend. Too bad I couldn't find a picture of the streams of paint going it. That would be perfect for this thread.

Haaa, ha! Hey, Kyleden that´s just like some people look on youtube proudly showing their customized contacts. One thing is taste, and another is… well, going for hours through the internet looking for the most exquisite colored contacts, I´ve found very few examples that come close to that expectation, and one of them are FXeyes. A hand painted contact requires sublty and artistry to achieve a natural looking iris in an opaque lense (they look white inside). Still, in my opinion they´re too expensive for the results. Some customers look great wearing them, but others, as you can see in videos, look like zombies, also there are complains about having to send them back for retouching, they feel a little discomfort because of the lenses thickness, etc. Plus, as far as I know, FXeyes is not making customized contacts anymore.
Orlando Bloom in LOTR, Jessica Alba in Fantastic Four, Ziyi Zhang in Memoirs of a Geisha, whatever company made those contacts, do they look real enough to you? For $500 bucks I expect some blow-my-mind contacts, and I have my doubts about FXeyes or any “we work for Hollywood” brand. So, my thought is, when it comes to expensive and special hand made contacts, I´d prefer to wait for the technology to improve.

Hi joss123. Nice to have you on board.

I've got some comments about your posting. First of all I just want to point out the irony of the fact that you want "subtlety and artistry" and a lot of work to go into a lens so that when you wear it, no one sees it.
However, I have to agree that if I'm going to shell out five hundred dollars for a pair of contact lenses, they'd better be "blow-my-mind contacts," as you so elegantly put it.

So who here has a pair of "blow-my-mind" contacts?
