Default Do Your Eyes Change Color in the Rain?

I read about a girl whose eyes turn from hazel to gray when it rains. Is this really true? Do your eyes actually change color or is it just an illusion? How long does the transition take?

I've been told it's an illusion that depends on how sunny it is outside. People say the same thing to me... "I thought you had brown eyes?" But to tell you the truth, I think it has more to do with what your wearing. Clothes seem to make them browner or greener from day to day.

"Do Your Eyes Change Color in the Rain?"

Sounds like a country song.

I also think that it's an illusion. Some people's eye colors change a little with the color of the clothes they wear. I think this happens more with people with lighter eye color like blue and green.

Actually, your eyes can change color. Mine do. The pigments in people's eyes sometimes change as they grow older.

My eyes were the bluest of blue when I was younger. And I mean really really blue. But as I got older I began to get yellow pigments around the center, then they expanded. I have green eyes most of the time, now. Especially in pictures. But occasionally they still look blue, which I'm glad of.

How about in the rain, Badevine? Are your eyes a different color when it rains?

Do you suppose this has to do with the fact that it's dark when it's raining? Can that make someone's eyes look different?

I was just thinking that, AceofShades.

Hey, we should go into show business together. AceofShades and FaceofBoe. What do you think?

Seriously, though, I think it might have to do with light levels. Peoples eyes may look one color in dim light and another color in bright light. The eyes themselves never change, it's just the light levels.

Hi Wheelhouse. Would you or anyone else like to show us how your contacts change color with different colored clothes? That sounds like fun, doesn't it?

I wonder if you would be willing to post a picture of your younger blue-eyed self and one of your current green-eyed self, with maybe a picture in between to show the transition?

Maybe it has to do with brightness. It gets a bit dark and gloomy when it rains, and maybe some lenses look a certain way when they're in strong sunlight, and completely different when under cloudy dark skies.

my eyes go from grey to deep blue in the rain but if it's caused by reflection /light etc why are they still that colour inside a building with no windows wouldn't the light be the same inside as any other day ?

That's a good question, didee. So even when you go indoors on a rainy day your eyes are still deep blue, and on sunny days your eyes are grey, inside or out?

Fascinating . . .
