Hi Catt, nice to see you again. You look great. I read your post that said you were going to disappear for a while. I'm glad it wasn't for long. You're one of the semi-regulars here and it just wasn't the same without you.
It's like Cheers without Norm, ya know? Well . . . maybe Cheers without Harry Anderson's character "Harry 'The Hat' Gittes". It's not like you're here every day, we're just glad to see you when you show up. Anyway, let's get to your question. You wanted to know which color I liked best. In the first picture, the Blue Topaz looks the best, but in the second picture, at arm's length, they look more green with a blue ring around the edge. So I guess my vote would be for the Blue Topaz, but up close. Does that help? |

Welcome back catt. You look good in all of them, but I think I'm going to have to vote for the blue topaz . . . although I have to say that the mascara is a bit distracting. I love the eye shadow, though.

If you think about it though, if you ask someone "Is that your real eye color" and they say "guess," it probably means it's not, right? Why else would they ask? And now a scene from one of my favorite movies, "The Princess Bride:" Man in Black: All right. Where is the poison? The battle of wits has begun. It ends when you decide and we both drink, and find out who is right... and who is dead. Vizzini: But it's so simple. All I have to do is divine from what I know of you: are you the sort of man who would put the poison into his own goblet or his enemy's? Now, a clever man would put the poison into his own goblet, because he would know that only a great fool would reach for what he was given. I am not a great fool, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you. But you must have known I was not a great fool, you would have counted on it, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of me. Man in Black: You've made your decision then? Vizzini: Not remotely. Because iocane comes from Australia, as everyone knows, and Australia is entirely peopled with criminals, and criminals are used to having people not trust them, as you are not trusted by me, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you. Man in Black: Truly, you have a dizzying intellect. Vizzini:Wait til I get going! Now, where was I? Man in Black: Australia. Vizzini: Yes, Australia. And you must have suspected I would have known the powder's origin, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of me. Man in Black: You're just stalling now. Vizzini: You'd like to think that, wouldn't you? You've beaten my giant, which means you're exceptionally strong, so you could've put the poison in your own goblet, trusting on your strength to save you, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you. But, you've also bested my Spaniard, which means you must have studied, and in studying you must have learned that man is mortal, so you would have put the poison as far from yourself as possible, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of me. Man in Black: You're trying to trick me into giving away something. It won't work. Vizzini: IT HAS WORKED! YOU'VE GIVEN EVERYTHING AWAY! I KNOW WHERE THE POISON IS! Man in Black: Then make your choice. Vizzini: I will, and I choose - What in the world can that be? [Vizzini gestures up and away from the table. Roberts looks. Vizzini swaps the goblets] Man in Black: What? Where? I don't see anything. Vizzini: Well, I- I could have sworn I saw something. No matter. First, let's drink. Me from my glass, and you from yours. [Vizzini and the Man in Black drink ] Man in Black: You guessed wrong. Vizzini: You only think I guessed wrong! That's what's so funny! I switched glasses when your back was turned! Ha ha! You fool! You fell victim to one of the classic blunders - The most famous of which is "never get involved in a land war in Asia" - but only slightly less well-known is this: "Never go against a Sicilian when death is on the line"! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Ha ha ha... [Vizzini stops suddenly, his smile frozen on his face and falls to the right out of camera dead] Buttercup: And to think, all that time it was your cup that was poisoned. Man in Black: They were both poisoned. I spent the last few years building up an immunity to iocane powder. |

Another vote for the violet. It's quite interesting how the colour balance of the two portraits varies - makes it more tricky to judge the best lens colour for someone. But violet is the winner for me.

What I see as being an issue is the different lighting. It appears that Catt is in dimmer lighting in the first photo and so her pupil is enlarged. So then we only see the really pretty contact lens colors flush up against the solid black of her pupil.
Thats the ideal look. But, what I have noticed with colored contacts which can be irritating is the clear pupil center is too large so in daylight, you get that little ring where your natural iris shines through and it looks not necessarily bad but people can tell they are contact lenses or they might just think it looks a little odd. I have this problem because I have blue eyes and I want to be able to sport a truly natural dark brown eye and I cant find one so now Im just opting for wearing theatrical "Black Outs" and from a distance, they look like a VERY dark brown eye and they will cover a blue iris entirely. But love that violet on Catt. Thats very pretty. |

I'm gonna hafta vote vote for the Blue Topaz. The Violet looks nice, but I like the dark outer ring that the Blue Topaz Lenses displays. It really makes the color "pop."
I think we all agree that Catt looks great, don't we? Even in her "bad hair" picture. |

By the way, I read that scene from the Princess Bride many times and I still can't follow Vizzini's logic. I guess that's how beautifully it's written. I love that movie.
You're right, too, Dragonslayer. If I asked someone if their eye color was real and they said "Guess," I'd immediately suspect that they were not. |

![]() In the new picture, she was not wearing contacts. She didn't ask Lens 101 readers to "guess" either. Catt, those are really nice pictures, by the way. I can even see a hint of a smile in one of them. ![]() |

Awwww . . . how cute! Can you smile like that in your Blue Topaz contact lenses, catt?

I saw on another thread a link someone posted for a site that creates custom cosmetic lenses. You can not even tell that they are contacts. The pupil is flush right up against the iris color (which can be ANY color) that the customer desires.
They will last about 2 years with gentle handling and proper care. They are also the most comfortable lenses because exact measurements are taken of your natural eye for a perfect fit. The price is in the $400 range. If anyone is interested I will post the link or if you have had custom contacts made, let us know what you experience was like with them. |

Welcome to Lens 101. Thanks for the heads up on the custom contact lenses. $400 seems like a lot of money at first, but when you see that they last for 2 years, that comes down to about $17.00 a month. Is that right? Can you pay for the lenses in monthly installments? |
|
|||
|
Im really not certain as I have never had them made. Yes, $400 is rather high but if they last 2 years like you say and they look so real, then it becomes a reasonable option. I hope catt doesnt mind. Hopefully she is interested also. I like them because a blue eyed person can have custom made brown lenses which is why I am interested. You will see they can be any color. Here is the link. If anyone has had them made, please comment.

What brand lenses are these and what is your natural eye color?
I just ordered the Durasoft Optifit 3 in Violet and am hoping for something that drastic but I think I am going to be sorely disappointed. Anyways, I say violet all the way! |
|
|||
|
Yes I agree on Catt's photos. I prefer the violet. The thing about violet is its pretty obvious thats its unnatural but its still really gorgeous. I guess the only actual human being to have violet eyes naturally was Elizabeth Taylor. In Cleopatra her eyes do look pretty strange but she also had so much eye make up in that film its difficult to tell what her eye color is.

You know what, Thulsa? Catt never did tell us what brand her contacts are, did she? Usually you can tell by what section the question is posted in, but this is just the "color contacts" section. That's no help.

[quote=Purpleiris;117509]Aw, I can't believe that. Don't cats have a sweet nature?
That's what I've always heard. Just look at the smiling cat with it's head sideways above. Isn't that sweet? |

Okay. Ahem. I'll just smooth my hair and straighten my tie here . . . Catt, I noticed that in both pictures you posted for comments you were wearing Blue Topaz contact. Both eyes in one picture and one eye in the other. Does that mean you've already decided that you like the Blue Topaz? |
