I couldn't agree more! I don't mind my natural eye color at all. In fact, the lenses I usually wear are just a brighter version of my natural color. I consider my colored contacts more like an extension of my makeup. We wear makeup to 'enhance' what we were born with, so why not enhance our eye color too (especially those of us who need to wear corrective lenses anyway)? Even a subtle change in eye color can really alter the way we look, and change can be fun! Plus, it's a change that requires no commitment, unlike say, cutting or dyeing our hair.

Oh, and I wouldn't worry about the kid in the picture up above having "self image issues". She's a strikingly pretty little girl, and no doubt just as gorgeous with her natural brown eyes showing.

Re: diameter size - I guess it's mostly a matter of importance when ordering colored contact lenses, for exactly the reason Sylvia described, where the colored part of the lens extends over the iris onto the sclera. (btw Sylvia, your irises look perfectly fine to me and probably the rest of the world - def no freak show! But I know what you mean about it bugging you. We all have things that most others would never notice that drive us nuts!)

Hi everyone. Just joining because I ran into similar horrible news... Durasoft no longer selling Jade Green!

I have very dark brown eyes and they gave me most natural subtle look.

Can anyone please help me. There is so much information in these threads and it gets confusing. Basically, I'm looking for Solotica Lens have offers:

1. small pupil hole for natural look
2. color that just makes my eyes subtle hazel, not green
3. no limbal ring, for natural look

Would that be Solotica Natural Colors in Ocre or Solotica Hidrocor in Ocre? Or does anyone have any suggestions/experience?

Thanks so much!

Where's that "incredible" picture so we can all marvel at it?

Does anyone know how you can determine if you have a large iris or not?

I did a Google search for "average size" and can you guess what was the subject of the first dozen or so results? It wasn't pupil size, I'll tell you that.

I refined my search to "average pupil size" and found out that "the dark-adapted pupil can vary from 4 mm to 9 mm with different individuals. After 25 years of age the average pupil size decreases, though not at a steady rate" -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pupil

I know just how you feel. I was in shock and disbelief when I learned the DuraSoft Colors were gone for good. However, I'm a little confused by your post. I, too. wore the Jade Green, and on me at least, the color was not subtle or hazel-like at all. It was straight up green, and fairly vibrant. When I couldn't get those anymore, I got the Solotica Esmeralda and when I first got them, I put the Esmeralda in one eye and the Jade Green in the other. When looking at them side by side, they were very, very close in color. I'm not at all sure the Solotica Ocre (or even the Mel, which I recommended in another post) would give you the look that you got from the Jade Green DuraSofts, but they probably would be a nice, subtle hazel. Hope that didn't confuse the issue even more. Good luck!

Hmm. Maybe my natural eyes are darker than yours? They look more green in the light. Which brand do you think are the most natural looking? Also, which bran of Solotuca is Esmeralda? Isnt that the one with the bigger pupil hole and dark limbal ring?

That's pretty funny! Talk about "not safe for work"! But I don't think Audrey was interested in average pupil size - I believe she was asking about iris size because she's interested in opaque colored lenses. If you have a smaller than average iris, sometimes certain opaque lenses can look funny.

In any event, Audrey, when your eye doctor examines you for contact lenses, he/she measures the size of your iris and can tell you whether yours is small, average or large. Somewhere on this forum, someone did list average iris sizes, but I can't recall where. Sorry.

Esmeralda is from the Natural Colors line of Solotica. They have a small pupil hole, but they are definitely a green lens, not hazel. They have a subtle limbal ring, but it's not as dark as the one on the Hidrocharmes. I think the limbal ring on the Natural Colors is nicer than the bold one on the Hidrocharmes.

It's hard to say which ones are most natural looking, but you probably don't want the Esmeraldas if you're looking for subtle and hazel (not green). Did the DuraSoft Jade Green lenses look hazel on you? I guess it's possible if you have really dark brown eyes. I'm surprised, though, because even just looking at the Jade Green lens itself, it's a bright green lens, with no brown whatsoever, and it's a very opaque lens, which doesn't allow any of your natural color to come through. Mine are a green-brown mix - darkish but not super dark .

Yeah, my eyes are dark brown. Perhaps what was dotted on the Jade Green is where my dark brown poke through enough to make it look hazel.

Guess I wouldnt go with Esmeralda but just trying to figure out which brand is more subtle. Maybe NC brand but in a more subtle color? So the opaque the less you natural color comes through? And NC are the least opaque, then hidrocor the most?

Which brand has the smallest pupil hole again? Pls list from smallest to largest...

Ugh Im so confused!

I think you would have to explicitly ask them for that info though, I've never had an eye doctor tell me the size of my iris and I've been going to various ones for 20 years

They WOULD know the answer though, they certainly see enough of them!

It might be a more hazelly color but I think Mel fits the bill of what you are looking for, since it blends with your natural brown color to produce the green effect--also the pupil hole is not so blunt

Here's a pic of Hidrocor Mel--perfect for everyone but the small irised (me) =/

Does anyone know of a website out there that actually lists the pupil diameters of various contact lenses?

those are not my eyes, but her eyes are brown (so are mine)

I'm not sure how well Mel would work on other eye colors, since the yellow lens mixes with your brown to produce the color-I've seen them look almost lime green on people with very light brown eyes

Oh, that's too bad. Can you at least have the lenses put in at the office and have the opportunity to say "Nope. These aren't right. Have you got anything a little more yellow?"

Not unless you live in Brazil--otherwise no

I'm not sure if they ever did that back when annual vial color lenses were available in the US, like Elegance and Durasoft. They were recently discontinued, but I seem to remember being told that I would have to special order them, and they had no trials.

It makes sense, the lenses would be much more expensive if they had to cover the cost of people using trial lenses--or the option of ordering, trying them on, and then being like ' i changed my mind'

After all, after they've been in your eyes they have to be thrown out--an awful waste of an annual lens!

Yeah, I see your point. I'd hate to go to my eye doctor and hear him say "how about these lenses? I've only tried them on one other person."

That sounds like the kind of thing people will want to know. What about the cost? Do Soleko contacts cost as much as the others? Where are those lenses from anyway? That doesn't look like an English name.

No, they are relative to the price of Adores. EURO: €29.75. I believe they are from Italy. But they seem very natural on the videos and apparently more comfortable.

I'm still confused on which brand, color to try. This research is never ending.

I just want my Durasoft 2 in Jade Green back. Let's all join forces and demand it from CIBA. Should I start a petition? I'm so serious.

You might start a petition, and I believe there's even a thread here that tells you how to do it. However, I must caution you that on-line petitions are rarely taken seriously because it's ridiculously easy to get "signatures." See?

Someone started an online petition to CIBA awhile ago to bring back their specialty contact lenses. I just checked it and only 19 signatures thus far.

http://www.change.org/petitions/ciba-vision-bring-back-specialty-contact-lenses-durasoft-2-durasoft-3

I do wonder if it would make a difference if a large number of people told CIBA they were going to boycott their products because of the decision to drop so many of their lenses. Meh, probably not.

I'm writing them another letter now and at least asking them to make their current products with the same pupil hole and matrix design as before. They don't necessarily have to bring it back, but at least match the natural look it gave us all.

Does anyone has any experience with ordering custom lenses through Marietta Vision??

Apparently, they 'replicate' Durasoft 2, 3 colors. But they are like $300 and I read somewhere, someone said they are flimsy.

I opted for Solotica Mel. Didn't want to pay $300 in hopes those work out.

Any thoughts?

Pff if you're ready to spend $300 you might as well step it up to $450 and get a completely custom lens from Fxeyes!

No, i'm not ready to spend $300 at all. I put in an order for Solotica Mel with lensmarketplace.

I just was wondering about Marietta.

Hope the Soloticas work out.

Judging by the post you quoted it sounds like audrey666 is not ready to spend $300 on lenses.

It was a rhetorical 'you' --as in a person who is going to spend 300 on those lenses would be making a mistake not to up the cost a bit and get a far superior lens

I think you were smart to go with the Solorica Mels. BTW, last year, when I learned I could no longer get DuraSoft Jade Greens, I contacted Marietta and they said they didn't offer the DuraSoft 3 replicas. I'm glad, because I searched further and discovered Solotcas, which are a fraction of the price and amazing looking.

Be sure to come back and let us know how you like your Soloticas!
