Just wondering about everyones natural eye color. Did you inherit it from your mother or father or neither?
My mother had blue eyes which I DID NOT INHERIT. Boo Hiss!
My father had hazel/green ones that we (brother, sister and self) all had/have (plus the cleft chin).
Hi catt.

I inherited my brown eyes from my father, but my right-handedness from my mother. As you may recall from biology class, dominant traits get passed regardless of which parent has them. If two people, one with brown eyes and one with blue, have a child, the child will, in I most cases, have brown eyes. I have three siblings and we all have brown eyes like Dad. None of us inherited Mom's blue eyes. I'm afraid brown is dominant over blue, and in your case evidently hazel/green eyes are dominant over blue ones as well. I suppose the only way to have blue eyes is to have two blue-eyed parents.

Or get contacts.

I must say, catt that I've seen some of the pictures you've posted. I've never noticed your cleft chin. I must have been too busy looking at your eyes.

My mom has brown eyes, and my dad has blue eyes. I have green eyes, that seemed to turn 'greener' when I stopped wearing my torics for several weeks.
But to answer the question, going on the current knowledge of eye color genetics, I must have picked up my green alleles from my mom. If my dad had green alleles, then his eyes would be green. So, technically, I got my eye color from my mom, even though she's phenotypically brown.
What's interesting, though, is that my dad and I both have central heterochromia. His pupillary rings are brown, and mine are a rusty orange.

Congratulations, Jenn. You've written what is quite possibly the only post in Lens 101 to contain the words "alleles" and 'phenotpically." That second one even took Spell Check by surprise.
I know what you're talking about, though. I took Freshman Honors Biology (he said smugly).

So is there any chance you'll post a picture of yourself showing your green/rusty orange eyes?

Isn't genetics fun?

It's hard to capture the green. My eyes always look more blue/grey in pictures.

There she is, Calamity Jenn.
Thanks for the picture. Is that your natural color in both of those pictures? If you're wearing contacts, they're invisible. To me, anyway.

Does she look great, everybody?

Default Pretty Face

Yes, Calamity_Jen. You do have a nice smile and a pretty face. I agree with catt that you don't need to change the color of your eyes, but if you want to, go ahead. (Like you need my permission, right? )
I look forward to seeing more pictures and reading more posts from you in the future. Welcome to Lens 101.

You gals are sweet, thank you! I'm only really interested in trying brown. It would be such a difference, and I'm curious to see how it would look, and if people would receive me differently.

That's very interesting, Calamity. All the time I've been posting here on Lens 101, I've come across a few people that want to wear brown contacts over a different color, but it's pretty rare. A lot of brown eyed girls would like to have your eye color, I'll bet.
Good luck finding your brown contacts. Have you considered FreshLook ColorBlends? They have contacts in Brown, Honey and Pure Hazel. Take a look at them at the link below.

So, Jenn, how's the search for brown contact lenses going these days? It seems like the people here at Lens 101 are receiving you warmly, if not a bit enviously!

Hey there! I haven't been employed, so I haven't been able to justify purchasing any lenses, and I haven't had any luck with finding trials. But I just got a job, so when I get some money together I'll give it a go!

Hi Calamity. How's the job? Did you buy your brown contacts yet?

We're looking forward to seeing those contacts soon. It looks like the requests are beginning to pile up.

Yes, it's true. Sadly, catt has left us, and I'm not sure why. It's a shame. I miss her.
