Default Solotica Hidrocor Ice or Grafite? Or...?

Hello everybody, I'm new to the contact lenses world, but I'm really excited. I'm getting lenses just to change my eye color for fun. I've been researching a lot, and I'm gonna go for one of the Soloticas, not sure which color to get though. I would prefer one of the Hidrocors too, since they're much more transparent and have no dark limbal ring, I want it to enhance/mix my color and look natural.

I'm leaning more towards the Grafite and Ice colors, the Grafite from the videos I've seen appears to look more blue, and I like it. The Ice is less blue, but it's still very popular and looks very nice, but sometimes a little fake/zombie-ish depending on the eye. This video almost has me sold on the Grafite ones!

And if you guys have any other suggestions let me know. Thanks!

Here are some pics of my natural eyes:

Hi papersamus

Welcome to Lens 101 forum. There is not so much forum traffic at the weekend. You should get some replies from Monday onwards. There is quite a lot of interest in coloured contacts on this forum.

Hello papersamus.

Knotlob was right, as usual. It's Monday and here come your replies.

I really don't know very much about one brand versus another, but I can tell you that you may want to consider some brown lenses. I think they'd go well with your skin and hair color. Perhaps a nice Honey or Pure Hazel?

Here are some options for FreshLook ColorBlends by Wesley Jensen:

Brown

Honey

Pure Hazel

What do you think?

Thanks for the reply! And Those are nice, I've always wanted to try brown contacts just for fun to see what I would look like, but right now I'm looking for something that would enhance my color, or make it a little lighter with an interesting new color in it. That's why I'm leaning more towards the two Solotica colors I mentioned. I couldn't contain myself and I bought the Grafite ones, I'll post pictures when I get them. I made a concept on photoshop of what they might/should look like on me, or what I'm wishing for rather (lol):

Before:

And what I hope it will look like after, but probably won't 'cause that's too awesome ... lol:

okay first of all why would u want contacts, dude ur natural eyes are friken awesome and i've never seen one with that pattern on it(the second pic u posted). But i know how it feels like to change up my look now and then(with boring black eyes) so i would say go with the solotica topaz ones, research it, the topaz would blend really good with your natural eye color. gOOD LUCK

Just to clear things up, hidrocors are the LEAST transparent in the line of soloticas, not the most transparent. They will change your eye color more dramatically than the other two lines of soloticas (hidrocharmes and natural colors.) The most transparent are solotica's natural color line. So if you are just looking for a slight change, NC's are the way to go.

so just wondering, do you know this because you own a pair of solotica hidrocor contacts or have you done a lot of research. just curious, because I'm considering buying a pair of solitica contacts in mel, but i dont know whether to go with hidrocor mel or hidrocharme. I've heard that the hidrocor looks more natural but that ppl get more compliments with the hidrocharme, so I'm totally confused about which ones would look better in general.

I do not own a pair of Solotica Hidrocors, but I do own a pair of Solotica NCs (natural colors) and have done a lot of research. I couldn't tell you which line of Mels would look more natural on you because everyone's eyes are different and Solotica is made to blend in with your natural eye color (different eye colors can look completely different with the same pair of lenses.) But generally NC's are said to be the most natural (again, it depends on your natural eye color). Hidrocharme's generally blend better than hidrocor's, but often the thick limbal ring can give them away.

There are plenty of videos on youtube.com if you wish to find what's best for you.

Below is a photo of the 3 series of Mels. (On the left is the hidrocor lens, in the middle is the hidrocharme lens, and on the right is the natural color lens.)

Hi Kamille. Welcome to Lens 101.

Do you have a bigger picture that shows your eyes better, by any chance?

Much better. (So is your real name Mary Ann, or is that name tag just there to throw us off? )

Yes, your eyes really are dark brown.

As for what color contacts to get, do you want a dramatic change, or something a bit more subtle? If you want something that's "you, only better" as they say, you might want to go with a honey color. It will still be brown, but it will be different.

If you want something really different, you might want to try gray lenses. Because of your skin and hair color, I'm afraid that going with blue or green would look fake.

I checked the colors that are offered by Solotica and to be honest, none of them really thrilled me. The closest I found was "Ochre" but even those look a little dull and flat.

Acuvue 2 Colors have some nice shades. Take a look at Honey, Chestnut and Pearl Gray.

Let me know what you think.

What do you guys think about Waicon lenses, i've seen youtube videos (i'll post a link) and they looked great, but how do they look in person for anyone who's tried Waicon Tri-Kolor. For those that have tried Waicon and Solotica, which is better and more natural looking in person. I don't know, I think I'm just gonna buy both lol.

I've heard that generally Solotica's look more realistic, but Waicons are more comfortable. But I don't know from personal experience because I've never had Waicons. Just letting you know what I've read before in other contact lens forums. (Solotica's should only be worn 4-6 hours a day and should not be worn everyday.)

And just a heads up. Solotica Mel/Honey contacts are yellow tinted contacts and for some reason yellow tinted contacts turn out green in brown eyes. So I wouldn't get Solotica Mel/Honey unless you want green/hazel-ish eyes. Also, your eyes might be too dark for the Natural Color series so you might want to stick to hidrocor or hidrocharme. But they are very natural looking, I get complimented for having nice eyes all the time.

Here's a picture of my Solotica Natural Color Mels so you can get an idea of what they look like (I've alright posted these pics in another thread in case you are wondering):

thanxs kmoanig, they really do look natural on you. would mind showing a full face photo with your natural mels. for me, i'll probably order the hidrocor mels, because i dont like that thick limbal ring in the hidrocharme solotica, even though some people say it brings out the eye color and pupil more, but big pupils are no no for me. thats why im going to order from waicon trikolor too, because they have a smaller solid pupil hole, but i love the natural look of soloticas, so im going to order from them too lol. cant make up my mind, so im just gonna get both

It says on Lens 101 that you posted here 103 times so far. Do you mention Bonanzle every time? Are they really that great?

I'm glad you found us here, loveme. You certainly have contributed to the forum, that's for sure. Not many people reach the 100 post mark. Thanks for your help.

I seem to remember a time--around Valentine's Day I think--when the site was down, but I haven't noticed any problems since. I guess we're in the clear.

Didn't you say "my skin color changes like a chameleon"? I know you did because I copied and pasted those words.

Anyway, I like your hair and skin tone too, and your pink shirt.

I looked at some of your posts and it does seem kind of odd that you mention that name almost every time. If you really like them, that's great, but I don't think you have to tell us where you got your lenses twenty or thirty times.

Don't worry. My friends tease me all the time because I tell the same stories over and over again. One time I started telling a story and someone stopped me because I had just told that same story earlier that day! I was pretty embarrassed.

I agree. I know this is a contact lens website and all, but I prefer to see the person's face, not just a big giant eyeball. Sometimes those pictures remind me of eyeball aliens . . . .

GAH!!

All right, I realize that the episode just aired a few weeks ago, but can someone please explain to me why the entire, vast, nearly infinite reaches of the Internet are, as far as I can gather, entirely devoid of pictures of the Atraxi from the Doctor Who episode "The Eleventh Hour?" You know, those big scary eyeball monsters in the sky?

Are all those pictures in some kind of time lock or something??

I don't know, but the picture you posted is almost certainly more colorful than any picture of the Atraxi you may have found.

I agree too, that I'd rather see a face than a big eyeball.

Default Look Around

You sound like you know your stuff when it comes to contact lenses, and coming from experience is even better. Feel free to look around this site and answer any questions you think you might know the answers to. You'll see how many unanswered questions there are on this site.

thanx Teddikitty, lol i guess i've been doing a little bit too much research on contacts and i bought a few pairs (different brands), and just a little advice ppl, the expensive colored contacts are totally worth the price because if the $20 disposable contacts make your eyes look worse lol and bulgy. but yea if anyone has any questions feel free to contact me no here, i've done my share of research.

I would say that the lenses are turquoise, with a little more green added. So a green-turquoise.

Or would that be turquoise-green?

They look nice on you, by the way.

Looks like you've got quite a collection there, loveme. Do we have pictures of you wearing them here on Lens 101? Kamille206 wants to see more "real" people wearing contacts on this site, and I agree.

Just . . . don't post twenty super-gigantic pictures of your fine self in this thread.

Thanks, loveme. I'm curious to see the Hidrocharme lenses, since in the last few days I've been reading posts from people who rave about how beautiful and realistic those lenses are.

Yes Natural colors are Solotica brand, its the ones that have a slight limbal ring. they are nice. But for the dramatic look the Hidrocharme just looks amazing.

People ask me all the time if I dont mind paying too much for the lenses, you know these lenses are yearly lenses. I couldn't be happier with them although still the Freshlooks win in certain occasions.

Thanks for answering my question five minutes after I posted it . . . and people say there's no activity here.

So tell me about those occasions when the FreshLook contact lenses win out over the mighty Soloticas. When might that be? I'm sure the folks at Wesley Jessen who make ColorBlends would be interested in your answer. They're listening . . .

Wow, it must be nice to have all that money to change your eye color to suit your mood.

As far as shoes go, I've got three pairs. One pair of black dress shoes, one pair of white gym shoes and one pair of black hi-tops. Done. I have shoes for every conceivable situation. Do you?

But contact lenses--you need to buy lots and lots of contact lenses, and buy them from Lens.com. They don't sell Soloticas, but maybe when they see how many people like them, they'll start stocking up in them.
Meanwhile, they have some great vial lenses.

All right! Here comes my check!

lol hey i wish i had money too to have a collection, but the truth is i just saved up for waicon and solotica so it'll be a lonnnnnng time before i can save up for some more colors. need to save up for a lil' college tuition now but good luck with you lol. it is too bad that Lens.com doesn't sell soloticas but there are websites and genuine people that sell this brand like this vendor called colormyeyes on Bonanzle.com: http://www.bonanzle.com/users/333027/profile or wrlens.com. but there are many other inexpensive brands that are still good on Lens.com, it just depends on your Preference.

True, i have to save up some money too. I have had so much fun and success with my Soloticas that I am sticking to the brand for now. I am so glad I found them and i got them on Bonanzle too. I Think Lensmarket has them too but they take forever to ship.
Someone posted their pics here recently with Solotica Hidrocharme Mel, it looks stunning.

yes it was totally worth it and i do this once in great while so i deserve it. with me, when i get the chance to indulge in something expensive(rare) then i do tons of research to find the best, make sure the websites and sellers are valid, and read up on reviews so you can tell that this kind of thing happens once in a blue moon for me. why is it a problem?

I don't have a problem with your doing research before you buy. That's the whole reason Lens 101 is here. I'm glad you feel that spending the money you've saved up for your contact lenses is "totally worth it." I would hate for you to feel like you got ripped off.
If it's not absolutely essential that you get Solotica contact lenses, there are a ton of other options on Lens.com including Focus Monthly SoftColors, FreshLook ColorBlends, Expressions Accents, Acuvue 2 Colours - Enhancers and Opaques, and FreshLook Radiance.

Good for you Kamille206. It doesn't take a long look at this site to see that there are a lot more questions than answers. Keep up the good work and answer some of these "orphaned" questions.

Wow. This thread tells quite an interesting story when you just scroll down and look at the pictures. There are pretty girls, eyeball close ups, chameleons, snowflakes with eyes, and an extreme closeup of a giraffe. The second post asks the question "Does anyone ever post here?"

Well, papersamus, from my Vantage point in the 68th post, I can say, yes, people do post here.

You thought that this post might have something to do with giraffes? Is this in reply to Sk8erBoi's question "Did you see the title of this thread 'Solotica Hidrocor Ice or Grafite? Or...?' and thought you saw something about a giraffe?"

Speaking of which, what do you get when two giraffes collide?

A giraffic jam.

That one was for free.

I almost feel like I should scold you for directing people to leave this site and visit a competitor of the sponsor, but as you pointed out, the sponsor doesn't carry Solotica lenses. If you recommend them, why not tell people where to find them?

For now, I'm just going to thank you giving a plug for Lens.com anyway. Which lenses that Lens.com sells would you say come closest to Solotica lenses?

For now, I'm just going to thank you giving a plug for Lens.com anyway. Which lenses that Lens.com sells would you say come closest to Solotica lenses?
Acuvue and Freshlook are great, I was just doing my own personal review of Solotica, not trying to diss this website lol.

I'm glad you wrote that, Kamille206. It seems like Lens.com carries just about any brand or color of contact lens you want--except Solotica, and then it seems like every third person who posts on Lens 101 wants to brag about them.

Oh well. I'm glad you found some contact lenses you like, and I appreciate your posting pictures. Those contacts really do look good on you.

I have the Natural Colors Cristal now and waiting on my Solotica Hidrocor Ice. The crystal didn't do much for my blue eyes. It lightened them and they are the most natural color lenses I have in my collection. But they are also the mosr transparent of the Brand. I will tell you more once I get my Solotica Hidrocors...

If you want to just have some fun with your eye-color, witch is what I am doing as well, for the fun of it. Try some of the Freshlook greens from the colors series. that will be a great color for your eyes. They are cheep and fun.
