    Default Can You Switch Eyes With Monovision?

    Monovision, of course, is when you use one eye to see up close and the other to see distances with the help of contact lenses.

    I'm wondering if they ever switch. Has anyone gotten tested and then discovered that they got in wrong at the eye doctor's office? What about eyes changing? Has anyone used monovision successfully, then found out that the right eye now sees better far away, for example?

    How long does get used to switching eyes?

    It's an ancient post but I'll reply for the sake of people looking for this info. When I first tried monovision we followed the norm: dominant eye for distance, nondominant for near. But, I do a lot of up close work, and for years had been closing my non-dominant eye (which has a higher spectacle prescription incidentally) so I could see stuff up close. The normal monovision did not work for me - I still did not have good up close vision and the distance was somewhat compromised. So, we went back to trying multifocals - and I had zero luck with those.

    On a whim I asked to try monovision again with the near / far eyes swapped. It was instantly amazing! Awesome up close, really good distance. I'm very happy now - and it's working massively better than any of the multifocal options I tried.

    I should note that for me it did not involve just swapping the 2 contacts. My non-dominant eye is more hyperopic than my dominant, and it also has some astigmatism, so it required a totally different set of lenses.
