Default Am I Ready to Go From Glasses to Contacts?

I've been wearing glasses for about twenty years now and I think I'm ready to make the jump to contact lenses. I still have some questions, though. Please bear with me if some sound stupid.

I heard that before you start wearing contacts, you should see if you feel comfortable touching your eyeball with your finger. I tried that a few times and it really hurt and my eye got all teary. Does that mean I shouldn't wear contacts?

What if my contact lens gets stuck under or above my eyeball? Does that ever happen? If it does, is it easy to fix?

Sorry if I sound like a big baby. I'm just a little nervous. Thx.

Default Glasses to Contacts

Welcome to Lens 101, nakedeyes.

I'm glad that you're considering contact lenses and doing some research.
As for touching you eye, it's probably not a good idea. A contact lens is made of a different material than your finger. Just because touching your eye with your finger is uncomfortable doesn't mean wearing contact lenses will be. (Not to mention what may be on your fingers. I'm not saying that you're a slob or anything, but you never know what kinds of bugs are lurking about.)
Now, about your question of losing your contact lens in your eye. I've heard eye doctors say it's physically impossible for a contact lens to sat in your eye very long. For one thing, contact lenses are slippery, and so is the surface of your eye.
On the other hand, I've read posts by people who swear they lost a contact lens in their eye for a year and then one day it just fell out. They my be lying, but what would be the point?
I'd say talk to your eye doctor and tell him or her your concerns. They will be able to answer your questions and let you try on a few pairs of contacts to see how you like them. Good luck.
