Default Switch to daily disposable

I am currently wearing B&L Soflens 66 and am wondering about trying B & L Soflens One Day...the daily disposables. I was wondering what the difference in base curve was. The 66's I wear are just listed as a "flat" curve. Would I be able to wear the dailies which come in an 8.6 diamater? Would there be a big difference in comfort and fit. I'm wondering before I make an appointment with the doctor for a change in RX. If it is a big difference then I won't bother to change from what I'm using now. I'd just prefer to use a fresh lens on a daily basis if it's at all possible.

The Dr. would be the only one to make that decision but I don't see that there would be a problem.

As far as the specs go both lenses are made from a nonionic polmer with a high water content or Group 2 wich would mean that the solutions you would use would be compatible. The Dk of the lens is very similar, this number is the measure of how much oxygen the lens will allow through. The diameters are the same so both the lenses are the same size. Then as you mentioned the soflens 66 comes in a flat/median and a steep/mediam wich translates to flat to median is 9.0-8.6 and a steep to median is a 8.1-8.6, this means that the lens has to have some flex to it to accomadate this small range, this is done by making the lens thin (soflens 66 is 0.1mm thick in the center of a -3.00 diopter lens) the soflens one day is a 8.6 base curve and the lens is much stiffer wich does not allow it t cover a range of curves by flexing (soflens one day is 0.17mm thick at the center of a -3.00 diopter lens) this equates to almost a 70% increase in thickness which is the reason why the one day is only approved for daily wear when the 66 is approved for daily or extended wear. If your cornea is on the flatter side of the F/M ase curve range of the Soflens 66 the chances are the lens will bind causing poor movement and poor tear circulation under the lens, but if your eyes are more towards the median or 8.6 side of the F/M range then bingo you would more than likely be a great fit.

I would definately recommend one day lenses, most people stay away from them because of the fact that they cost more. If you factor in the cost of the cleaning solution, wich you will need a whole lot less of. And the case replacements you will break just about even. So on the cost side it makes sense and on the comfort side, its a dream new fresh lenses everyday, it's a no brainer.
