Default Advantages of Daily Contacts?

I'd like to know just what the advantages are of wearing daily contacts? Is it better for your eyes to change your contacts everyday? Is it cheaper than regular contacts. Many of my friends wear daily contacts but none of them give me an answer to my question. All they say is that they like them better.

I think it's better to wear daily contacts when your eyes are dry. That's what my friends told me.

Probably the best advantage of daily contact lenses is that you only wear each one once. That way each and every morning when you put in a pair of contact lenses you know that they're fresh and sterile. There's no need to worry about any dirt or protein deposit that may still be there from when you wore them yesterday.

So, yes, it is better for your eyes to change your contacts every day.

Cheaper? Well, you'll have to do a little comparison shopping on that one, depending on what brands you're talking about. That's easy to do from here. All you have to do is click the red lens.com button above and you can look at what a month's supply of monthly contacts costs compared to a month's supply of dailies. As always, though, your eye doctor is the best source of information about what's best for your eyes.

Let us know what you come up with, okay?

I find that when I got used to dailies that they seem to bother my eyes less. They seem more comfortable since they are fresh every day and much less trouble to store and clean.

There are also a variety of advantages to wearing this type of contact lenses as well. First of all they are great for your eyes. The let more oxygen get to your eyes, which makes your eyes feel better while you are wearing them. Also, these types of contacts are made out of materials that are lighter, so they are more comfortable for your eyes and they won’t cause irritation either. There are also a variety of colors available too, so you can get a great color for your eyes and enhance your look.

Although there are both disadvantages and advantages to daily wear contact lenses, most people find that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. Many people find them comfortable and convenient, which is why so many people have decided to choose these types of contacts for daily wear.

Most opticians seem to be pushing clients towards Daily lenses, especially for children who may not look after longer term lenses so well.

They are more convenient for people who can't or won't take the trouble to sterilise them each night.

Better for travelling, especially with all this nonsense about not carrying liquids in your carry on baggage on flights.

Less problematic if you have build ups/deposits on your lenses.

Cheaper if you have a habit of loosing lenses (swimming, etc).

But they are usually made of conventional hydrogel materials (at present), which are low in oxygen permeability, compared to the latest silicone hydrogel longer term lenses.

I find the Daily lenses sometimes rather fiddly and prone to folding in on themselves while putting them into my eye.

Daily lenses are more expensive than monthly lenses by quite a lot the last time I checked, but you don't need to buy lens solutions. Still about twice the price of Monthly lenses.

Personally I wear Biofinity and find them much more comfortable than the Daily lenses I have worn and also they are extremely oxygen permeable and healthier for your eyes.

Some 2 weekly & monthly silicone hydrogel lenses are classed as extended wear. That means, subject to your eye care professional's approval, you can wear them 24/7 for up to one month, without having to do daily disinfection/cleaning of the lenses.

It's a case of weighing up the pros and cons of each lens and deciding which option is best for you. Personally I wouldn't consider daily lenses over Biofinity monthly lenses.

My eye doctor told me that the Biofinity class of lenses (i.e. silicone hydrogel) are very high in oxygen permeability and even though they are the best available, the best is only JUST good enough. i.e. the older type hydrogel lenses just don't permit an adequate supply of oxygen to the corneas.

Silicone hydrogel is relatively new, 2-3 years, so I guess in time, Daily lenses will become available in silicone hydrogel. Then you can have the best of both worlds (apart of course from price ).

A reason not mentioned. Some people don't wear contacts every day. Weekends only. When playing sports. Special occasions.

Daily lenses are always ready to pop in your eye. You don't have to remember when you last disinfected your lenses. You don't have to figure out if you have to re-disinfect your lens prior to wearing. You don't have to keep cleaning solutions or even a contact lens case.

Thank you for that summary, Knotlob. I like a point-by-point list. It makes it easy to find one particular plant.
