Default Should You Take Your Dailies Out After 12 Hours?

Daily disposable contact lenses are meant to be worn only once, and not to be slept in.
If that's the case, if you're having a long (16-18 hour) day, should you take your contacts out about 12 hours after putting them in?

I think I would have to take them out after 12 hours, possibly earlier. Contacts tend to bother my eyes after a long day and many times I take them out after 9 or 10 hours. I think that it depends on who's wearing them. I'm sure some people can tolerate contacts for longer periods of time. If you can go longer than 12 hours it might not be dangerous but if possible it might be best to take them out after 12 hours.

I agree with skatss. You should probably take the contacts out after 12 hours. It couldn't hurt--unless you're driving. You probably want to keep the contacts in if you're driving.

When I had contacts, I often wore them for more than 12 hours with no bad side effects, but it's been a while. I think it's not a bad idea to take them out after 12 hours, but it's not always practical, depending on where you are and what you're doing.

Thank you Skatts, Ace of Shades and Quiet Lunatic for your help. So I guess the answer to my question would be, "take your dailies out after 12 hours of wear, unless it would be impractical, like if you were driving."

It's probably best to keep a pair of glasses on and in case you do need to make that quick switch, though again that's not always practical. I try to bring my glasses with me wherever I go, though, since contacts really do bug my eyes after a while.

That's a very good idea, SLTE. I second that. Make sure you have your glasses with you at all times in case of emergency.

Back up eyeglasses. That's a great idea. I'm glad you posted that SLTE. Good call.

You say "when I had contacts" like you don't have them any more. Did you get laser surgery or did you switch to glasses?
