I know this is kind of a silly question, but I figure I'd ask on behalf of others who are wondering the same thing.
Is there anything wrong with wearing daily disposable contact lenses every day? Should you give your eyes a rest and wear glasses every once in a while, or is it okay to wear dailies every day because you wear a fresh pair each day? |

I think that unless you're experiencing a specific problem, it's okay to wear daily contacts every day.
I know that sometimes after a long day, some people switch to glasses for the last few hours before going to bed. |

I think that this is specifically addressed for specific contact lenses and situations. I'd get your own doctor's advice about your own eyes and your own lenses, and not go any higher risk than that advice.
Yeah, not very helpful, I realize, but I'm having scary visions of you going extended wear with lenses not designed for it, and causing permanent damage. |

I'm sure your doctor and the people selling you the contact lenses will probably tell you that it's perfectly safe, but I think it's healthy to take a break from contact lenses once a week. Give your eyes a rest and put on a pair of glasses.

I know that my practitioner recommended that I took breaks from wearing my daily disposables, for instance, leave them out on a Sunday and try not to wear them for too long during the day.
I try and wear mine a maximum of 8 hours if I can and today for instance I'm working with my glasses as I like to take a break from them. I agree with everyone else though, it's best to get advice from your practitioner! |

Thank you again for your input, everyone. It looks like we all agree that a break from daily contact lenses about once a week is a good idea. I can't see any reason why that would be harmful.

As for me, I don't like to wear contacts everyday. Although there might be no harm of using it daily, I would still prefer not to wear them. We should only use it when needed. Would it be fine to use contact lenses when you are in front of a computer?

![]() The only caution is to remember to blink. When people are reading a computer screen they have a tendency to stare for long periods without blinking. If they're wearing contact lenses, this can make them dry and uncomfortable. As long as you remember to blink you should be okay. |

Here, I've broken it down for you and I only hope my math is correct, so go ahead and check it if you'd like.
Daily disposable contacts lenses on average are about 77 cents each, so for 365 lenses it's $281.05. Since you've got two eyes, though, double that and for 365 PAIRS of daily disposable contact lenses it comes out to $562.10. Lets compare that. Weekly lenses are about $4.33 per lens. (4.33x52)x2=450.32 Monthly (5x12)x2=120 Annual 49.95x2=99.90 In the final analysis, daily lenses only cost about 77 cents each; over the course of a year the total cost will be over five hundred dollars. At the other end of the spectrum are vial contacts which can last a year. You only need to buy one pair, but that's going to set you back almost a hundred bucks right up front. So daily disposables are cheaper in the short term, but over time they really add up. Right? |
