Default Focus Dailies Progressives Contact Lenses With a Tool

This is the DMV 45. It's a tool that can be used to help you put your contacts in. I've never tried one of these before, but I'm kind of curious. If you tried to use a tool like this for handling your Focus Dailies Progressive contact lenses, would anything bad happen? Will this tool damage a daily disposable contact lens in any way?

The tool will not damage the eye if your careful. It prevents the lens from folding back on your finger. It won't help flinching. When I finally learned how to insert contacts, I never needed any tool.

Yeah, I'd like to know the same thing. It's great that it won't damage the eyes, but what about a daily disposable contact lens? Will it damage those?

I have used a few times, and never had a problem. The lens sits against the curved tool, and prevents the lens from bending backwards as does on your finger.

"Bending backwards." You mean turning inside out on your fingertip?

Correct. Novice contact lens wearers tend to push the lens on the eye, causing the lens to flip onto the finger tip. These tools are belveled inward and support the lens. They work, are ususally safe, and can work on any soft contact lens (even focus dailiers). Keep in mind, this is a crutch. There is not substitute for learning how to insert contacts. The trick I learned was to touch the top of the contact against the cornea. Directing the top reduces impact witht the eyelid. If the lens is sufficiently moist, it will stick to the cornea, almost like suction.

Thank you mgash. There's a wealth of useful information in that one post. I hope it helps a lot of people, and I think it will.

I haven't checked back here for a while. Thanks for your answer mgash. I like how you said that the inserting too is a "crutch" and that contact lens patients ought to learn how to insert their contacts without any tools.

You may be right ICU2, because what happens if you need to take your contacts out but you left your removal tool at home?

It's still cool, though.

Do you wear Focus Dailies, mgash, and how long did you use this insertion tool before you decided you didn't need it any more?

I still wear focus dailies, I do not use any tool. After a few weeks I learned how to install and remove contact lenses easily. I can insert a lens faster than I can tie my shoe. There is a simple trick I learned. Touch the TOP of the lens to any part of your eye. This avoids eyelid collisions.

Thanks for the practical tip mgash. It's good to know that a person can quickly learn how to insert a contact lens with confidence.

I've never heard anyone describe those tools like that. It's clever to invent a tool with a curved, cup-like surface that prevents the contact lens from folding itself inside out on a convex surface like a fingertip. Well done, mgash.

Wow, how hard do you have to push on the lens to make it flip inside out?

Yeah, I can't even touch my eye, let alone push on it.

I wonder how long after contact lenses were invented that someone invented a tool for handling them?
