Don't Spit in Your Own Eye

I just read about someone getting new contact lenses. She made an interesting statement. She advised her readers not to spit on their contacts because you could get pink eye.
I've heard about that boxer who got a really bad infection after he cleaned his contact lens in his mouth, but I'd never hear of spitting on your contacts.
Also, I've never heard of that pink eye thing. Perhaps she meant "infection" in general, not conjunctivitis in particular.

Can you get pink eye from your own saliva?

I think you would be more likely to have the bacteria on the finger you're putting the contacts in with than in your mouth.

More to the point, why would you want to spit in your eye? Unless, there is no other way to clean your contacts.

This is crazy. I never ever heard of anyone doing it. I guess he was insane to do such a thing. The closet thing he should do is to clean the lenses with water after exhausting all other avenues.

I think he should have just left the contacts out and taken his chances. That or his trainer should have had a spare set or at lease some solution.
