Thread: Which color for me? Demo pics

Default Which color for me? Demo pics (Toric)

Hi, I am going to get some Colorblends Toric and I'm wondering which color would be best. I have brown eyes, but they are medium I think, not too dark. The pictures below are as follows: Left pic taken with flash, honey in my right eye and green in my left. Right pic: taken in indirect sunlight shows green in my right eye, left eye is natural. Sorry for my red face, it's my first time wearing contacts and takes me awhile to get them in.

I am not looking for anything dramatic. I'm okay with subtle, but I don't want it to be unnoticeable. I had originally wanted honey but now I'm thinking it's too weird looking. The pupil looks kinda googly eyed. Unfortunately I didn't get a blue or gray tester, now I wish I had. I think I get pretty good coverage with the green contact. Do you think the blue or gray would be good choices? Or is green the way to go?

    Thanks for your opinions!

Hi Shiva. Welcome to Lens 101. I think you'll find the people her friendly and helpful.
So let me prove that by doing my best to be helpful. Me, personally, I like the honey colored lens. The others just make your eyes look dark, but the light-brown colored honey lenses have a "pop" that I don't see in the others.

Gray is a nice color to try as well. For someone with your complexion and hair color, gray would be my suggestion.

Thanks for your input! I was starting to lean towards gray also.

I just noticed something about my demo lenses. The green demo does not have a "colorblend" in it. It seems to be only one shade of green, without the darker rim, and hazel blending near the pupil that I have seen in other lenses. I wonder if the real green would look better than the demo green.

I actually am starting to think i would be happy with green, blue, or gray! But i can't buy all three.

Hi Shiva. Welcome to Lens 101. I hope you're going to like it here.

I think you would look good with the grey contacts. They would go well with your natural color.

Here is a picture of what the green ones are supposed to look like:

The "color blend" in these lenses, according to the website, is green and black, so I guess that refers to the background green and the black dots and specks.

As far as the "real" versus the "demo" lenses, I would imagine the demo lenses wouldn't be much of a demo if they were a different color, right?

Right! Which is why I was confused that the lens I got had only ONE color on them, green. But I figured out why. It's because they are the Opaques, not the colorblends. I was given the wrong trial lens at the eye doc's because they were out of the colorblend in green. I noticed this when I went back and saw two blues, one a colorblend (with black on the edges and hazel in the middle) and one with a single color.

So anyways, I went back and got a bunch more samples to try on and I thought I'd share the pics with you guys. I got the grey, blue, brown, turquoise, and Caribbean aqua. I wish I could have tried the green in colorblend because that's the one I think I want to get.

The ones that are not toric are not really options, but I tried them for fun and have shown them here for others' reference. All colored contacts are shown in my right eye, and please excuse the spaghetti stain on my bottom lip in the blue pic, lol, YUM! I have attached them in this order:

    1. blue
    2. brown
    3. Caribbean Aqua (not toric)
    4. Grey
    5. Turquoise (not toric)

So, do you guys still think grey is the best option? I think out of these grey is the most natural, but I think green would look a little more striking while still being relatively natural. I wish I had those green colorblends to try!

I'm partial to the green that you put in your original post. The other colors (excepting the Caribbean Aqua) are so... stark. But the green looks nice and natural.
And I must say, your natural color is beautiful! You have this neat starring pattern that I haven't seen before in brown eyes.

Thanks! I never saw my eyes that way. They always looked kinda muddy to me.

I agree that Caribbean Aqua looks less stark than the others. Too bad I can't get it in Toric. It's a Freshlook Dimensions and I think the Sea Green of the same line would probably look really cool. I might try and get the doctor to modify my prescription to omit the astigmatism correction (which isn't that bad in the first place) so I can try the Sea Green, eventually.

I do think I'm going to get the Colorblends in Green. It will look different than the Opaque green I originally posted, but I think it will only look more natural, with the darker rim, and more blending near the pupil. I will be sure and post pictures when I get it!

    Hi Shiva,

It seems to me like all of these contact lenses have large pupil holes. Your natural color shows though--except the brown ones, of course. Why would you buy colored contact lenses if they look the same as your own eyes, right? I don't know if they can do anything about the size of the pupil, but if they can, I would recommend you go with the Caribbean Aqua if you can get it in a toric lens.
However, I'm going to withhold judgment until I see the ColorBlends Green.

Have fun playing with different colors, and I hope you find something you really like.

I did a search for "Caribbean Aqua" (Once I figured out how to spell "Caribbean.") and the only brand that came up was FreshLook Dimensions.

In this series of pictures I liked the brown lens. It looks the most natural. It matches your natural eye color, but the dark ring around the edge of your iris look nice. You look good, how about more than a hint of a smile?

I don't think Shiva wants to smile. Maybe her smile is so bright and beautiful that she's afraid it might distract our attention from the contact lenses.

I like the green and brown on you best, personally (based on your complexion and hair color). The other colors don't look super natural.

From what I've learned during my research the past few days, though, Freshlook Colorblends don't seem to be the 'best' contact lenses for those going for a natural look. I ordered the Brilliant Blue because I WANT a really surreal, dramatic look. I ordered Illusions for my 'every day' colored lenses (they seem to look super natural).

It's funny how different lenses work for different people, hey? Even on people with similar eye-colors, the same lenses can look very different.

Well, you're only smiling with the honey/green combination.
Do you prefer one of those yourself?

Me, I like the Honey color.

Blue or gray would look nice, but you said you don't want anything dramatic. If that's the case, then you probably should go with the Honey color. I don't think it's "weird looking" at all. It looks really nice. I like the pattern in the iris.

It's probably a reference to Shiva's eyes above. Which ones, I don't know. She's got a lot of pictures up there, and I'm glad she gave us all those.

I have tried several colors and I have brown eyes. I wish that the pupil was smaller because I can't stand the natural brown showing in the center. It is a dead give away CONTACTS!!
If someone is looking into my eyes I want them to think "wow what beautiful eyes you have, instead of wow your wearing contacts." Why are all the pupil holes so big on contacts? Unless you have really dark brown eyes no color really works and looks real. Green is the closest I have found until you get in the right light and then you know. I would love to do the Paris Hilton blues...but....I want them to look like real baby blues instead of fake.
    All these pics..none look natural.

the big pupil hole is for comfort. If it was super tiny, when your eyes need light and dilate, your contact lens would be blocking it...in indoor lighting or dim lighting, you'd get cloudy vision b/c of it. But, some lenses do have smaller pupil holes, freshlook just isn't one of 'em. If you like freshlook's pattern, though, and want a smaller pupil, try Durasoft. It's a yearly brand but its made by the same company as Freshlook and the colors/patterns are almost exactly the same. The only difference is: More opaque color, a smaller pupil hole, and they are vial, yearly lenses.

And back to the original post...I loved the green! (the Colors green and the Dimensions Caribbean Aqua). I personally have tried the Colors Honey, and I hated it!! It was so orangey and fake on me. Green, imo, blends the best. =)

I personally like both any other color looks strange in light brown eyes and not natural. I have lighter brown eyes too and I use green or just clear for vision. Caribbean blue doesn't show up and I think they are more to enhance say someone with blue eyes. Natural is nice too. I like my brown eyes, if everyone had blue or green eyes we would be boring.......

That's a tricky one. "Caribbean." One r, two bs.' Do you pronounce it "Care-a-BEE-an" or "Ca-RIB-e-an"?
