Default Do You Think ColorBlends Look Natural?

FreshLook Color Blends make a big deal out of the fact they their contacts are a colored by a mixture of three different colors.

Do you think they look more realistic than other contacts?

"They look much more natural. "

I'm glad you think so, colored toric. Do you wear colored torics, as your screen name gently implies?

I agree - The lenses in the photo above look quite natural to me, and the overall effect is very attractive.

I'd say those are a great choice for the lady.

Yes indeed. They both look great, although I almost didn't see the blue-eyed blonde . . . and how many people can say that?

after trying Acuvue 2 colour contacts I must say the colourblends look more natural...Keep in mind most colour contacts will not look 100% natural but the Acuvue 2 colour contacts look very solid and make you look like an alien.

Thanks for the review. It's always nice to hear from someone who actually wears the kind of contacts you're asking about.

As for your last statement, how do you know what an alien looks like . . . ?

Eek! Isn't that Diana from "V"?

Garfield said it already, but I also want to thank you for the contact lens review, itgirl. I agree it's always good to get a first-person account of wearing a particular pair of contact lenses. Keep up the good work everyone!

wow, the pic looks amazing. Great job on the makeup. I am in love w Freshlooks now(although i know Waicon and Solotica r very nice too). I stumbled on them while searching on-line. Only reason I got them was since they were inexpensive! but so glad i did since hated Acuvues. Why dont these US based companies work on giving us better colors like European companies do.

I have natural light to medium blue/green eyes with spots of hazel around the pupils. So far, the colorblends brown, blue and green all look good, and yes, natural. I did not like the caribbean aqua though, they didn't look good on my eyes.

Yeah, that big picture of the girl with the plaid shirt on has that see-through "watermark" label, so I doubt it's a picture of then person who added the post. She's probably a professional model.

Hi Cousin. Here is a pic of all my colorblends. Top is caribbean aqua (which I hate), my natural color, then honey, then blue, then green, then brown and to the right is hazel. I have taken better pictures since this once, but they are all in separate files. In person, they look totally natural. the hazel doesn't look so good in this pic, but I have posted a separate pic of the hazel, which looks great in person, much more light brownish than in this picture I want to try gray next.

i think colorblends are more natural on people with light brown eyes or lighter eyes in general.

a person with dark brown eyes, or black eyes like many asians have... they dont look more natural. the acuvue 2 does though b/c its one shade-- its very fresh looking, and actually give the eyes a sparkly fresh look, and enhances the eye by bringing out the layers.

ive worn both the acuvue 2 brown and freshlooks brown, as well as the acuvue 2 hazel and freshlooks hazel... and the acuvue 2 always look best on me and they are undoubtedly the most natural to people. but they just dont fit correctly-- at all. whoever created acuvue 2 is an idiot for not having more than one dia.

its very hard to see the colored layers in a person who has dark brown or black eyes, but somehow acuvue 2 brings it out.... but most people cant wear them b/c of the size restrictions.

but if you have a light brown/hazel/or greenish colored eyes freshlooks absolutely looks natural on you. they look great on the hispanic/korean (im not sure) girl above.

with all that said... most people think freshlooks (brown) look natural on me and are my real eye color, lol... unless they know contacts. ever since walmart opened their little eye center more people have been experimenting with colored contacts, so a little more people may be able to point out freshlooks since they're relatively inexpensive.

To me any contact lenses wqho have more than one colour look terribly fake. you cannot have an iris pattern ON TOP of your eye lens, the real iris is supposed to be behind the lens like natural eyes.

The most natural looking coloured lenses are solotica hidrocor, for the reasont that they are semi opague, they have a dot pattern that puts one dot of colour and one dot left transparent so as to blend with the eye, and at the same time they only have one colour. So the real iris pattern of your eye still shows but is colour-lifted. And thus when you look the eyes from different angle you see the real iris not some lizard-eye contact lens iris.

And those face-frontal photos here cannot be taken so seriously, if you look from the sides the opague and multicoloured lenses look indeed like reptile eyes that pop out.

Well, since I have light eyes but a natural goldish looking ring around both eyes with some dark spots, colorblends are THE perfect colored lens for me. In fact, I was wearing clear the other day, and my husband said that my "brown" is showing through. LOL. So colorblends fit my eyes perfectly, and I know there are others out there who they fit perfectly too. It's a good thing there are many brands of colored contacts out there, so that we can all have colors/varieties that look good on our eyes.

That little green guy is adorable. I wish I looked that cute, lol. But honestly, I definitely do NOT look reptile-like in flcb's. I look more like a reptile WITHOUT them, but definitely not as cute as the lizard above.

I dunno. Those orange eyes and the way he's got his mouth open is a little unsettling.

I remember someone explaining to Bill Nye the Science Guy that a cobra spreads its hood in order to look big and scary. "It's very effective," said Bill.

That's a very colorful animal. I've had American chameleons as pets, but they're pretty much just green or brown. The males have a bright red throat pouch.

i realized its not about pale skin... its about your natural eye color.
i have a good amount of asian friends (japanese, chinese, korean) who wear these (all of whom have almost black eyes) and they do NOT look good on them, they look terribly fake.

if you have dark brown eyes-- brown freshlooks is really the only color for you.
if you have black eyes, this brand isn't for you at all.

i think they look best on people with very light brown eyes.

certain colors look good on blue and green eyes.

Default my experience with colorblends

I have medium brown eyes and got the Hazel ones, they looked horribly fake. It was completely obvious that they weren't real because the contacts had that pop-out effect (where the iris looks like it was painted on over the eye and looks way closer than the rest of the eyeball) I hated them. Not to mention they were unbelievably uncomfortable, hard to put in, and every time I looked in a different direction this huge blob would appear (caused by the colored part of the contact moving in front of the pupil). Needless to say I will never buy them again.

However, there was this one girl at work who has dark brown eyes and wore gray colored ones. They looked pretty natural on her and she never complained about discomfort. (People always gave her compliments on her eyes.)

But for all of the other people who I know that wear them (all who have dark to medium brown eyes), they looked extremely fake. And they bought all different types of colors (light brown, blue, gray, green, etc.) They all ended up buying one box of each color to give them a try and never bought them again after that.

So I'd advise that if you have dark-medium brown eyes and want natural looking colors, you should invest in a brand tailored more to dark eyes, like solotica.

Tell them to buy their contacts at Lens.com, if you're not doing that already. You can get them for as low as $26.99 a box.

We've got to support our sponsor here at Lens 101.

Do you mean the girl in the plaid shirt or the aliens from "V"?

Those off-worlders had good make up jobs, too.

Just think for that picture she had to have makeup on top of makeup.

And an alien contact lens.

We haven't seen those amethyst contact lenses yet, have we? Isn't that a shade of purple?

Have you found any purple contacts that work for you, loveme? How about Natural Touch Opaque contact lenses? They don't have purple, but they do have a "Sophisticated Blue" you might like.

i was leaning towards the soloticas but upon searching for images/videos of people actually wearing the solotica ice's, i noticed that on quite a few people it gave the zombie/glaucoma effect and i really don't want those "types" of gray eyes. and in some comparative pictures, the waicon grays looked like they showed up lighter than the soloticas. i actually have dark brown eyes so i want contacts that will actually give a noticeable color change.

the solotica hidrocharme's in ice (see that glossy almost glaucoma-ish effect it gives?)

versus

the waicon trikolor's in gray

as well as this video which compares both of the brands and colors i'm interested in simultaneously:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnARSwG5UdE

again that glaucoma-ish effect on from the solotica brand can be seen in this video and it really turns me off. lol.

i feel so lost. lol. XP

I absolutely get what u are saying. But it also depends on taste and how you look at it. I didnt even see the Glaucoma effect till u brought it up.
I see what you mean, I do like the Ice though, it does look different on every one. And u really would not know till you buy the lens and try it on. Waicon is also a great lens. Up close to me Solotica looks more natural.
Did you research the New Solotica Icemint or cristal? It supposed to be a Blue grayishy color.
Good luck to u Please post pictures when you get them

I saw your post earlier today, and like the person who responded to your question I thought I'd seen you before, and lo and behold, here you are. You've come full circle, christianadivine. Do you feel like you've come home?

as well as this video which compares both of the brands and colors i'm interested in simultaneously:

again that glaucoma-ish effect on from the solotica brand can be seen in this video and it really turns me off. lol.

i feel so lost. lol. XP
Aww, don't feel lost, christianadivine. Here, take my hand and let's see if we can find some direction for you.

Have you thought about Natural Touch Opaques? They're very popular here on Lens 101, and I haven't heard anything about that "glaucoma effect" you mentioned.
Just click the red rectangle up there that says "lens.com" and check out those Natural Touch contacts and let me know what you think.

I guess someone saw your picture and though you looked beautiful, and so here you are.
Lens.com does not sell Solotica or Waicon contact lenses. Is there a brand that our Beloved Sponsor Lens.com sells that you would be interested in? I hear their prices are very competitive. I think I saw a thread where they were comparing one of Lens.com's vial contact lenses to Soloticas and Lens.com had lenses for half the price. When you're talking a hundred bucks for one lens, that's quite a savings.

I personally find them fake looking, but that's just me. When sitting outdoors, people can literally see the fake lines. I used to wear them but I've stopped.

Thanks for your input Charlotte. I've heard a lot of good things about FreshLook ColorBlends, but obviously they can't please everyone. Thanks for your honesty. Sometimes I think people come to this site thinking it's just set up so everyone can say how wonderful the contact lenses are. Your post, and a few others like it, would prove them wrong.

Actually freshlook colorblends looks more fake than any other brands in my own opinion and experience.

Colorblends do look more natural because they have a dark outer ring that mimics most light colored eyes.

My friend bought some colorblends too now^^
Me and other people think they look very realistic, if you watch close you can see a lil bit of the orginal eye color but even that makes a pretty total picture.

Do you mean that the brown color shows through the pupil hole of the green contact lenses? Most people try hard to avoid having their true eye color show through the pupil hole. It sounds like you like that look, so maybe others will read this and decide they like it too.

Interesting. I'm probably like most people and if I see a different eye color peeking through the pupils, it doesn't look natural, and I might feel embarrassed if I saw that on someone. Almost like a bit of a bra strap showing or something. I've never seen that pupil thing on an actual person, though. I guess I don't look that closely at people's eyes.

Yeah, I agree, captain. That Visible Bra Strap thing can be a little embarrassing, even if it's not your bra strap.

Here's a couple of pictures of me in my colorblends 'Sterling Grey' lenses. I've been told they look very real by friends and work associates. My natural eye color is a very washy faded plain blue.

Hi shaunatron. Thanks for the pictures. Those contact lenses look nice on you. The second picture looks especially nice, although if you were sitting across from me at a restaurant or something, I probably wouldn't notice your contacts right away.

My eyes are REALLY sensitive so just about everything makes them red. But to answer your question....yes, they do irritate my eyes at times. when that happens, I usually decide it's time to take em out and put my glasses on.

Hi shaunatron. Thanks for the nice pictures. I'm a little concerned about the contacts though. Do you experience this irritation often? More than once a week? If so maybe you should see your eye doctor about it. Perhaps he or she can give you some drops or something to make your eyes feel better.

Ive tried drops, and they usually help for a few minutes but thats about it. When my eyes get itchy, I just put my glasses on.

i think most contacts look fake. Including freshlook colorblends. Some soloticas might fool a non colored contact wearer.... i really think my opinion is based on having brown eyes. outside of custom lenses (which i drool at but can't spend 600 bucks+on) the pupil hole always gives it away no matter how good the pattern on the lens is. Solotica "quartzo natural colors" looks pretty natural as far as the blending- the colors are pretty but the lenses are uncomfortable. people with lighter eyes can hide colored contacts very well... i've always been envious of the "enhancer" type lenses which do NOTHING for my eyes hahah. i remember trying freshlook radiance once in green and it just looked like a faint milky haze of green (sometimes seen on cheap luncheon meat) in some lighting. blah!

I agree that the pupil hole usually reveals a bit of the natural color, but can that be seen at a casual distance? How natural of an effect do you want? Are you satisfied with just fooling strangers in line at the Apple iStore or do you want your Mom to say "I thought you had brown eyes"?

Wow. Fast reply.

So do you like FreshLook ColorBlends the most then? Not all that realistic but comfortable?

Now, as far as that "faint milky haze of green" that makes your contact lenses look like "cheap luncheon meat," where are you shopping exactly?

Sometimes it's fun to look otherworldly too! Solotica is the first brand for me to look both striking and realistic even at close range. Ive had dryness/ irritation issues with that brand though. Found out I have minimal discomfort if I keep my wear time to about 6 hours. Colorblends aren't bad. I wear them sometimes in gemstone green

I tend to think of FreshLook ColorBlends and being one of the best color contact lenses available. Unless you count those outrageously expensive vial contact lenses.

While on a training course today, I was asked by one lady "are your eyes green, or are you wearing contacts?"
I told her this was my natural eye colour and the grey I had yesterday was the contacts. She thought the grey was my natural colour

That's a complement, right? It seems strange to me that some people spend money to make a change that they hope no one will notice.
