Thread: Extra Large RGP's for Extra Large Pupils?

  1. #1

Default Extra Large RGP's for Extra Large Pupils?

I've never worn RGP contact lenses, but I know that they pretty much just cover the iris, or colored part, of your eye.

With this arrangement, it can be difficult to see at night because when your pupils dilate to let in more light, you vision can be effected by their being so close to the edge of the lenses.

Well, now I hear they've got RGP's in "extra large" that allow for clear vision even with dilated pupils. Does anybody know about these?

Have you had personal experience with these jumbo RGP lenses? Are they as big as soft contacts?

no they are not as big as soft lenses diameter wise but they are larger than the standard 8mm diameter in rgp lenses. 10mm to 12mm would be considered larger for a rgp lens.Remember the optic zone is constant with the base curve its the diameter that is larger closer to the intermediate zone near the edge.

the area (5-8mm circle on the lens) which is where the power is located on the center of a rgp lens. U cant see it with the naked eye.

I read the post that Adric quoted and I got kind of lost myself because of the lack of punctuation. It probably would have been easier to read if it had said "Remember, the optic zone is constant with the base curve. It's the diameter that is larger closer to the intermediate zone, near the edge."

It still doesn't make a lot of sense to me, but then again I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed.
