Default Glasses Extinct?

Do you think that, with all the choices people have for contact lenses, eventually no one except the very eccentric will wear glasses?

No, not at all. Not everyone can wear contacts or even likes wearing them. I have contacts but much prefer my glasses. They are more comfortable and I can see better with them.

Glasses will always be around and not just for the "eccentric."

I agree. And there's also the people who don't wear prescription glasses, but keep reading glasses nearby for convenience.

Default glasses ahev been around too long

I agree with skatss...... glasses are more ocmfortable for some.
and not everyone can wear contacts or are candidates for surgeries...
You also have to rememberthat not every contenenet has madical availability like we do, canada, demnmark, italy, the UK and all other advanced cultures....... even in our advanced culture theer are many kids who depend on the lions club for glasses so they can see......

I can't see glasses becoming extinct until everyone has access to laser surgery or something not yet dreamed of that makes perfect vision accessible to everyone.

I still have glasses, I can't use lenses because my eyes are to dry.
It feels like I have some dirt in my eyes all the time.

Not everyone can use contact lenses at it tens to make your eyes dry. Glasses give people with this problem an option, other than having eye laser surgery.

I believe it will never go out of style as you can see the various modern design incorporated into the glasses out there in the market.

Default Glasses Extinct?

Thanks for all of your answers. Looking at these posts, the answers are either good news for people who sell glasses . . . or bad news for people who sell contacts!

Not necessarily an answer, more information than anything else. There are more people that drop out of lenses each year than are fit in lenses for one reason or another.

Also some people, like me truly enjoy wearing glasses. Believe it or not our office gets patients that want glasses with no prescription in them. They need them because, "People take me more serious as a speaker when I wear glasses", or "In court I look smarter when I wear my glasses", there are many professions where glasses can give the person a strategic advantage. It's like wearing a buisness wuit to a meeting, you'll be taken more serious than someone who shows up in board shorts and a T-shirt.
