I have been wearing contact lenses and alternating it with my glasses. So far, 6 months has passed. I am wondering how long can a contact lenses can last as I am not wearing it full time.

contact lenses have a use by date on and 11 months is far too long!

It depends on the lens, whether it is a disposable lens or not. Sure they can last and not just fall apart but that doesn't mean it is good for you eye.
Leave your milk in the fridge for 11 months, I bet it will still be there and physically you can still drink it but it doesn't mean it is good for you.

If I could say one thing to everyone who wears contact lenses, it would be this: Don't wear then longer than your eye doctor says you can. Just because the don't "feel" expired doesn't mean they aren't hurting your eyes. Contacts may be expensive, but so is being treated for an eye infection, scratched cornea, neovascularization, and all those other things you risk by over wearing you contact lenses. There. I said it. I feel better now. |

Sir Robin said it best.
Hopefully you have a back up pair of glasses with which to get you through until you can purchase a new pair of contact lenses. Personally, I would not risk infection for vanity. I have found several online sites that ship for free and they all take credit cards. Read the fine print though because many of them have hidden fees and you will only see them at the checkout added into the totals. You can always ask your eyecare professional to prescribe a longer lasting lens too and you don't have to purchase from him/her. Take your prescription and shop around. |

If I remember correctly, Frequency 55 Toric is a monthly contact lens. That means that they can be put in a maximum of 30 times. It's not a matter of how long the package is open. So if you wore the Frequency 55's one day and glasses the next, you can double the life of your contacts. Of course--ahem . . . let me just use my Announcer Voice here -- "ask your doctor if wearing Frequency 55 toric lenses every other day is right for you." By the way. Lens 101 has a section for Frequency 55 toric contacts, so if you have any more questions about this brand you can post them there for more specific information. |
