Question Can contacts change the shape of your eye?

I heard that if you use contacts for a few years you'r eyes will change shape because of the way you open you'r eyes when you either take them out or put them in? Is this true? By change shape i mean if somone has small eyes they will look bigger after a few years.

Hi Goldenglove18.

You ask a very interesting question. I've never heard of contacts changing the shape of your eyelids. It's possible, but I think you'd have to measure very carefully to see the difference. I don't know of anyone who has saggy, misshapen eyelids from decades of contact lens wear.

However, there is a procedure called Corneal Reshaping Therapy (CRT) or sometimes orthokeratology that can help improve your eyesight. It involves wearing hard contacts for long periods of time so that they reshape the corneas of your eyes. Sort of like wearing braces on your teeth. There are posts about CRT here on Lens 101 if you want to know more.
